Server Merges

ScarisScaris Member UncommonPosts: 5,332

Per and email I just got from Auto Assault:

Since Auto Assault® launched earlier this year, we’ve had the pleasure of finding a community that is vocal, helpful and truly cares about the game. You, the Auto Assault® gamer, are vital in helping us to create a unique experience unlike any other online role playing game.

One of the things thatyou’ve told us is that you would like to see all servers merged into one to allow more community-oriented play. Therefore, on July 13th, all existing Auto Assault® servers will merge, bringing us all together as one big, happy, warring, power-sliding, flame-throwing family.

What does this mean to you? Well, you’re going to see many more people around in-game, but you also might need to make some decisions. For example, you may need to determine which characters to keep – 12 characters per account is the limit. There are a few other factors you’ll need to consider. You can find out all the details of the merge and what it means to you HERE.

By merging the servers, you’re going to make new friends and enemies and even have the pleasure of forming a convoy with your European brothers and sisters - or you can just blow them up…all in the spirit of International relations. Auto Assault® is going global!

In addition, this move makes it easier for our team to create more inclusive in-game events, including tournaments, meet-and-greets, drop and spawn events and more.

Let the games begin!

Good lord, is there really that little interest for this game that even when they annouce the game is going down to 1 server all that be heard is crickets?

I hadn't realized this game was doing THAT bad.

The boards for AA here aren't used all that much. There are 13 pages on the subject at the official forums, and that's not counting the countless new threads that were created and locked because they were supposed to be posted in the official thread.

For what it's worth, I think the merge is a blessing and a curse. People who want to group and have active Ground Zero confrontations will definitely be pleased, but people who like to solo are basically getting it up the rear axle due to the way quests are designed. Also, crafters are more or less going to be sequestered in instances if they want to gather components, since the environments aren't really large enough (even as large as they are) to support increased numbers of people havesting the limited number of buildings, railings, etc.

I should point out that I'm not completely against server mergers, but the timing is poor; they're cramming everyone together to solve the low population issues, but they're doing it before they solve what will soon be the high population issues. The first human highway zone is a perfect illustration of what these issues will be: although that zone has far more quests than any other zone in the game, even one or two people doing quests (whether the quests are the same or not) in the same section of the map can make it all but impossible to complete your current task. It doesn't take a genius to project what the outcome of putting the entire population of every server in one place will be.

I was taking a little break from the game to play Oblivion while waiting for the latest patch to get released, but I always planned to return. Server mergers only affect me negatively, however, (I'm a solo PvE player) so I decided just to look for a new game once I've finished with the Elder Scrolls. Auto Assault had a lot of features that I enjoyed, but all of those features will be diminished by an increased playerbase. Go figure. I'm willing to put up with quite a few bugs and a fair amount of unfinished content, but I'm not going to change my entire playstyle; that's exactly what sever mergers would require me to do in this case.

The server merges have nothing to do with a lack of subscribers!

AA has plenty of subscribers, its just that both players just wanted to play together

    Lol Gameloading thats hilarious.

I played the BETA, and this game just blows... I mean, its a kewl concept but badly done.... its a shame cause it can probably be reworked into a better game, but I would say that it pretty much blew its chance to be something even as small as CoH or CoV.  The game may improve, but I think the only place the subs are going is down.

The server merge has made this a whole new game.  Last night was a blast. Lots of people to convoy with and PvP was off the hook!  Fun game for people that dont have a lot of time to play extended sessions.  The game has come a long way in a short time.

Very nice of them to throw the blame on the customers.

"You told us to do this, so if our game dies because of it, it is your fault."

Also only 12 slots per account?  Talk about stingy, I mean come on, some people like to have vari....wait

    ...

    ...

    3 races X 4 professions....

    hmmm....

Unbelievable that they spin this as something the customer wanted. Watching MMO developers sink to new lows is sad.

ya it is indeed sad when devs make a risky move and blame it on the comsumer

Dont blame them for that post. I mean, would you say about your company something like this "We realize we have very few customers, and becuase the game isnt doing as well as we hoped for we are forced to cut our costs by merging all servers. Hey, you probly gonna like this anyways becuase you will see more people" or this "Due to popular demand, we are merging all servers so that our customers can enjoy even MORE of our game in bigger battles, bigger convoys and a whole lot more of explosions. Rock on!". It takes guts and extreme confidence of your own product to admit that that product is failing and needs a fix.

Too bad about the game though, I kinda enjoyed playing it in beta, but never had a reason to actualy buy it. As someone said, this game concept is great, but its missing a soul.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Could anyone give me an update as of today on what is going on with the game cause I am thinking of re-uping my account.  Thanks :)

Well I'm not sure exactly what you wanna know, but they've changed alot in the game since the last update. If you mean population wise, it isn't so bad right now. I logged in after over a month of not playing (I'm very busy with my website, podcasts, interviews etc, no time to play really) and there were quite a few people playing in almost all the areas I was driving around in. I do have a couple higher level characters (lvvl 30 or so human) and there were plenty of people. Plenty of people in the newbie areas for both mutants and meks, and everyone was using the faction chat channel which is server wide. Tons of nice helpful people as well, one guy actually came to mutant newb land and helped me out and crafted me a weapon :D

As for gameplay and other related changed, er way to many to mention. Alot of changes, but overall they are continually improving the game. Adding features people are asking for, and adding new content. For a game that is literally a complete retail failure, they are supporting it very well I think. Props to the NetDevil guys for being awesome developers and listening to their customer base.

After playing for a few days for the 7 days reactivation of my account, I can say that I enjot Auto Assault as much as I did when I first started playing, but I still don't think I am going to subscribe, not at this point anyway.  I feel kinda bad, because I want to play and support the game, but there are just too many others that are superior to this one.  This will be a common problem in years to come, as more and more mmorpgs come out that may or may not improve over what already out.  Too bad they all will have subscriptions, or I would play 'em all!

Well when the company gets so mad abuot the realse then i would sy yea.  But come on you had to see it comming, i mean cars as a mmo.  LOL i had to do the beta just to appreciate how bad an idea this really was

  • baffbaff Member Posts: 9,457

Ncsoft have written off all expenditure for AA off as a loss. I was expecting to read that the servers had all been turned off.

Maybe they can sell it to Sony.

  • QSatuQSatu Member UncommonPosts: 1,796
The sad thing is.. other developers will look at AA and will make another boring fantasy mmo =[
