10 day Trial, unbelievable...

in Star Wars Galaxies

My friend and I had recently decided to play the trial. Only for kicks and good laughs about how crappy the game has become. Only to confirm that not only does the game still run like its a child with ADD.

but pressing the C button to bring up your character sheet, instantly crashes the game. not only that, I wanted to try out the auto-aim feature. And that also crashes the game.

Seems SOE will just keep digging its own grave.

    I still vividly remember when the NGE went live.  I was on Teamspeak with a bunch of other people in my guild and we couldn't even talk because of the feedback from Han Solo repeatedly screaming "Get on the ship kid....this place is gonna blow!"  At first we were laughing because it was so funny and I thought that surely it would mean they would rollback and not let this stay on the server, but within an hour I felt like crying.  Within a week our guild of thirty daily players was down to 2 or 3 people a day for a few hours and eventually we just all drifted to other games and away from each other.  Most wanted to play EQ2...I tried it myself but it reminded me so much of SWG that I just couldn't stomach it and I quit.

    Sometimes I think 1000 monkeys in a room with a 1000 computers could have created better code than the NGE.  It was an utter embarrassment and if it wasn't called "Star Wars" this game would already be dead and forgotten.

    I made a thread on this and said something about it in Elnators thread up here complaining about the auto-am. Same thing happened to me, crash if I pressed Y to toggle auto-fire/lock or C to open the character sheet.

    if i remember correctly they know of the problem and working on it
    origianlly trial once you it play it would crash and it was fixed and this happened

    atleast they know and are working on it

    I'm not sure the trial accounts are flagged to recieve all the updates and it's possible that these rather important parts aren't downloaded as part of it.  Have a look at this post here and compare it to your SWG directory, http://soe.lithium.com/board/message?board.id=Techsupport&message.id=295177.  If something is missing, download it from that thread.  Annoying that you have to do it, but hopefully they'll have it fixed soon...

    I've done the same thing Linkman214.  But for me its not the character sheet that kicks me out, its the auto aim toggle that does it.

    I'll look to see if I'm missing anything but come on now, don't you think SOE should make sure that the trial version should work properly from the get go?  This is an attempt to get new players into the game and a game that crashes because you hit one key on your keyboard will leave them with great impressions.

    I have spent most of the day downloading all the files that I didn't have before and I'm still having the same problem.

    The game still crashes when I toggle the auto aim.  Has anyone else experienced this in the trial recently?  I really don't want to resubscribe to try it out yet.

    It's really not worth the effort. There's a reason nearly everyone quit.

    Oh I know.....I left back in February after playing since day 1.

    I just promised a friend that I would try out this new part since he enjoyed it.

    If you and your friend know each other well, maybe see if he'll let you borrow his account for the day?

    Another suggestion would be to maybe try change the default key settings for the auto-aim stuff and see if that fixes it.

     Its better that the potential SWG customer experience events that will occur plenty in the game , namely crashes and bugs.  If they can accept that then SOE has a customer for life ( or until SOE bans them).

    extremly little thought was put into the trial.

    I attained max level for a ten day even in about 3 hours.

    There were missing textures for alot of items. Equiping a new item cause all sorts of charachter glitches, and I have a decent system, I play several MMo's without a hitch.

    Last straw was finding a decent melee weap but then equiping it being covered in a black box. texture not found.

    If you got the worst DEVs in the world in one room and said "Here's a successful MMORPG with a loyal fanbase. Your mission is to make this game blow so bad that 90% will quit within 6 months, but it still has to be marginaly playable.     If its a grave their digging or what, that i dont know. But the hole they are digging is sure getting deeper.
    And its about deep enough for them not to get out now.
