Shadowbane sounds like what you are looking for, very pvp centric, quick leveling, and corpse looting.

Shadowbane. Although you can only loot what is on their inventory at the time; not what they have equipped. It's better than nothing though.

Will items drop on death & what are the looting rules?
A randomly selected set of your items will drop and be lootable by your opponents or anyone in the vicinity should you die in battle.

not out yet though..  Q1 2007     closest thing to old school UO bein made.

In order to having loot players available, the game must have the items come very easy. I don't like the games that lack of satisfaction of earn rare items. And obivously I don't want to lose such items.

On Ultima when I lost everything..I'd just go mine and make a completely new set.  Ultima is pretty cool. It's fairly easy to get things back again.

    Err ... Neocron ?

In my opinion one of the best MMOGs ever. Well it could be way better, but still it´s fun.
Also tried Shadowbane, really don´t like it. It looks awful and so does it play.

By the way Neocron has a FPS-like combat system. It´s a combination of FPS and RPG combat system(not only your skill, but also the skill of your character is important).
In any case this combat system is just fun, not as boring as the standard combat systems games like WoW and EQ employ.

    I have something to add.
You wanted to know about the loot.
It depends here. If your opponent is a "good guy" he will only drop one random item out of his quickbelt.
But if your opponent is a "bad guy"(it´s determined through "soullight", your reputation) he will drop actually almost everything(weapons, armor, implants, etc..) depending on how "bad" he is.

Thats a very poor and innacurate assumption. Hate to keep brining it up as an example but in eve there are rare modules - 'items' - which you loose when your ship explodes. A game with fast-coming items and the ability to loot kind of defeats the point of open looting, in a way.

Here I'll try to explian loot in eve with a little chart.

    (1) 2 3 4 5-(6) (7 8) 9

1 is the basic tech 1 stuff easy to find can be produced on the cheap by players.

2-4 is the first 3 grades of named loot. For missles for exsample it's malkuth, limos, ZW-3000. (Not to hard to find or expencive to buy)

5 The last level of named loot rare find and not too cheap. exsample name Arblast Seige Launcher

6 Tech 2 has the same stats as the top end named stuff but in most case get an extra boost from what skills you have learned. It can be produced by a few players and because of the high demand and low supply it can get very pricey.

7-8 Is faction/dead space very rare, doesnt always beat tech 2, can sell for dirt cheap up to a billion+ depending.

9 Ultra rare drops only from officer npc's (The highest of which are somtimes played live by CCP staff or ISD members for story line player events) Their loot more often than not is worth 500mil to a 3bil.

Mind you having an officer fitted ship is not an I-WIN button.

EVE ONLINE!! PVP is the shiz'e in EVE!! Pirate players actually make a good living in-game by killing other players and loot that players gear! A side note Players can also offer bounties.. A added bonus!
