If you are going to game, and play current games you really do have to stay up on what operating system you use. 98 is no longer supported and directx hasn't been updated for it in quite awhile to my knowledge. I know Sony stopped supporting it with their games awhile ago.

Naw- There really aren't many whinny people that I ran into (even Fadeus isn't whiny- really, he's not). But I do agree, windows 98 is a bit on the old side now and you might want to look into a new OS soon- Vista is coming out soon, perhaps it will interest you?
As for what OS games will run on: the minimum specs are usually present on the official websites and in many other locations. My advice is to checkout what they have posted for min specs and see if it matches your configuartions.
As for not getting to try this game: at present, you're not missing much.
The heat is making everyone a dink. Me being one of the bigger ones no doubt.
I was a paper D&D player and character devotion is what paper D&D was all about. Still, it is from what I understand low in content and not solo friendly. The game needs to motor because I may be wrong but I get the feeling Conan is going to be all about hero, solo quests.
+ For anyone in the know. Do they at least have a henchman system?
And yes, 98SE is on the way out.
Eve, DAOC, SWG... nothing new supports it. 98SE support is a good indication you are entering a mature game.

I wouldn't say the game is low in content. There are enough quests to do to keep even a full-time player going for awhile. The big problem is a handful of quests give better loot and xp than the rest of the quests, so people gravitate towards those. It's too bad, really. So many people complain how they can level up so fast -- yeah, if you know what you're doing and run the highest-xp quests over and over, but if you know what you're doing in WoW, you can level up fast, too. WoW probably takes longer due to all the running, running, and more running.
I looked at the game this way: if I buy F.E.A.R. or something similar, that's $50 for probably 15 hours of solo play. $50 is two entire months of DDO. No one rags on games like F.E.A.R. for being short, but MMO players seem to be of a different mindset. It takes I think 450,000 xp to max a character in DDO. Even if someone could average 10,000 xp per hour, (not gonna happen unless maybe they already know all the powergaming tricks), that's still 45 hours of pure questing and doesn't include buying and selling things or running around or just plain gabbing with people, etc.
And you are correct; it's not solo friendly unless you really take your time and use lots of strategy. I don't fully understand why so many people play massive multi-player games and then want to solo them anyway, but that's a different topic. To me, DDO was "ok" soloing it. As soon as I got into some groups, the game was a blast (most of the time). What groups you get into can really make or break the game.
The rules are loosely based on 3.5 D&D, and that was ok, but then, going back to the "unbalanced" problems with the game, to fix certain perceived imbalances the developers then do stupid crap like out of nowhere make certain monsters completely immune to certain spells, thus nerfing half of your spellcaster's power. They could have given those monsters even higher saving throws or something, but instead they do the cheap fix. Awhile back I came to the conclusion that the people in charge have never played P&P D&D because, if they had, certain things would have never made their way into the game. Once again, it's too bad, really.
No, there are no henchmen.
No, 98SE isn't on its way out. It's dead and should be buried. I can see someone not liking parts of XP, but not Windows 2000 since W2K is basically 98SE without the crashes. They look the same and are used the same, but the stability is a night and day difference.

Actually win98 was probab;y the best ever.I use XP because my GF does a lot of her work on the computers and some programs do not support 98 and ofc since games are made primarily for XP nowadays i use it too.
But i can't recall a more stable version of windows then 98 it was pure gold.

Slow solo doesn't discourage me. I've only ever ran trials on WoW and had lots of fun just running up and down the beaches killing stuff. I was able to solo kite well above my level and if they had been willing to sell me a key online I would have purchased it. It's when the content is a group only affair that leaves you with a game you only have 30% access to unless you group out and go into LFG mode for hours on end. I spent enough hours in SWG doing that, only to have half the group lag out to know it is not workable.
Guilds can make a good game. I have a role, players 2 through 15 have roles and we combine our game work for better stuff. It doesn't need to mean joined at the hip combat engines.
Something I noticed that really dumb founded me more than anything is, no Druid. No Druid? That's like...
It won't make or break or be a crucial deciding factor. Just an observation.
