Roleplaying

Hey, I've been playing FFXI for quite a while (just deleted my character and made a new one, so don't make fun of me for being a lv. 1 White Mage) and haven't seen many roleplayer on it. Does anyone here do it? I see a lot of people on this forum are using correct punctuation, grammar and spelling (as I am doing now), which is usually a good sign of roleplaying, but do you? I am a heavy roleplayer, actually. Because I am a Tarutaru, I regularly, when private messaging, talking, chatting with my party, whatever, I will say things like "biggy-wiggy", "that was your faultaru", etc. So, do you guys roleplay? ::::24::

A nerd and proud of it!

Do you roleplay in your MMORPG? If not, you are one of those millions of people who irritate me. Congratulations. (My avatar is a Toadutoadu. They're quite common in Mushroom King'diel.)

    Hey Dork,

I've been playing since November and haven't run across any roleplayers.  Sure I'll throw in the silly-willy tarutaru talk since I'm one of the short guys.  But as for all out roleplay I find myself more concerned with keeping all the party members alive rather than making sure I'm Bujusoju while doing it.  Outside of battle I try to stray away from talking about present day events or bringing up off topic comments like World of Warcraft or the upcoming baseball season.

    Hope this helps out,
    oduwoody

I've been role-playing on UO for about three years now.  When I begin playing FFXI in late April, I'll be on the Ramuh server.  Why don't you get onto there, and level up and whatever, that way we can RP together. image

hey if you are a white mage then be a white mage and if you are a nerd then you are smart. And you have proved that you are a Tarutaru for a white mage and that is the best pic of a white mage. I am a level 1 Warrior/Galka so if you need any help give me a shout, thanks.

Firstly, what in the world were you trying to say in your first post? Secondly, I'm not being a nerd for roleplaying. If anything, I'm doing better as roleplaying, because that's kind of what they want you to do. If you call me an "ass nerd" for that, I'd guess you wouldn't like RPGs (or MMORPGs for that matter), but why else would you be here?

Roleplaying is a lot of fun, and yes people do roleplay on FFXI, you just need to know where to look. I am an officer in a guild on Caitsith and we are a partial roleplay linkshell. I think we ended up settling on roleplaying in says, but not needed in linkshell chat. We do get a fairly good amount of roleplaying in since we have meetings twice a month and now trying to get an event going on the weeks we don't meet. After the meeting ussually at least 4 or 5 of us sit around roleplaying with each other. If you want you can take a look at out web site and in the Roleplay forum. Most of us have posted our background stories. I'm Kashera in there. Our website is http://www.guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=11641&TabID=96411 If you have some free time, I'd advise taking a look image. TTyL TTFN!

Oh man! That is so cool, but there are only two problems- 1. My world is Midgardsormr and 2. I kinda created a roleplaying guild already (not very far though). If you ever get the guild on Midgardsormr, though, let me know! ::::01::

EDIT: Well, I really want to spend more time playing than making a guild, so please tell me if the RP Guild comes to Midgardsormr. Thanks!

  • I roleplay in FFXI but it seems hard to find roleplayers in the world cuz you really gotta talk to them, you cant hear some stray conversation and say. "hey that guy's roleplaying!" because unlike EQ, UO, and other such games the characters in Final Fantasy games never talked much different than us, they used less slang. To roleplay in this game is alot easier than in most games because you just gotta act as your character.

Yep, basically the only times you have to change it from normal English is if you're Tarutaru or Mithra, and I'm already used to Tarutaru (Tarutaru is harder than Mithra anyway, so it doesn't mean Mithra's is hard to learn).

Roleplay caught my interest most on Ultima Online image, but I only roleplay outloud, I dont roleplay in private messages, party chat or anything else. I only emote roleplay and talk it out-loud, but I hate it when roleplayers use [] to go out of character. Player vs player will really change things though image, especially for roleplayers. The roleplayers on Final Fantasy XI you dont see in the gameimage, you just talk to them on forums, like the warcry and MMORPG.com forumsimage. Funny isnt it image? Roleplayers of Final Fantasy XI, UNITEimage!

imageLife is alot more like mmorpg's than you think - You create a  character (baby) and start at level 1 slowly learning the game as you go and working your way up to new challenges. <In the case of certain mmorpgs> You go through the stage every child goes through where he wants to be a cowboy, and then a fireman, or an astronaut or a white mage or black mage; and you might level up a little with each one. But then you find the career you want to stick with. Then you get married. (yes I skipped a few steps of life 'ie. puberty, high school, college'- but I ran out of analogiesimage) The only mmorpg where I heard of marriage is Everquest though...actually thats it. Except that you DO NOT get more powerfull as you get older. You lose hair and get a beer belly etc.

For my part, I don't roleplay. Not that I don,t want too, but when you are alone to do so, you seem weird for everybody else. So, I passed by.

I also got to say that, for a reason that I cannot explain, I don't feel that FF XI world is suited for roleplaying. I cannot sayt why I'm telling though. I used to roleplay alot in DAOC. Maybe it is the fact that the FF XI character seems more like toon to me?

I miss my old Dungeon and Dragons games... Shadowrun was fun like hell too!

Roleplaying scares me. Remember playing as super heroes as a child? That scares me as I think back. I've never tried on a game before.
