Some help?

OK so im thinking of getting the game and yes i have seen all the threads that start like this and the ones telling me why i should buy the game. But i wanted to know some things, is there a lot of quest content? that is good? not go kill foxes and get pelts so you feel like you play no role in the big picture of the game. And im a big unique item person so are the many quest rewarded items? Ones that are hard to get/find? But the biggest thing for me is it does not look like there are many skills for the classes i was looking on a site and a thief gets about 10 active skills or something from 1-75? And yeah i know there are weapon skills but there is only about 10 of those also is this correct or am i just seing it wrong because i am picturing the combat being very boring with limited amount of skills.

FFXI is not GW, WoW, EQ/EQ2. There are no bullsh!t kill 9 sheep & bring me back 9 Sheep meat to prove it. We do have kill XXX monster untill it drops Said key, to open said chest, to get Said Artifact armor.  A lot of our quests concist of delivering items, Like going to some far off land and finding somone, giving him some item, then returning back. A lot of our quests are running around, Finding somthing, somonone, killing somthing.

Most quests give you gil, Its usually not very much. And you'll get Fame. (Higher fame means more quests that unlock, and city prices go down a bit to ppl with higher fame). Some give you items, others spells. And thats about it.

You said you're a big "Unique item person" Well, in ffxi if its questable its not unique, because everyone can do it, its commen. Our Unique items would be droped from Notorious monsters, or BCNM's. And even then unless its Rare/ex (Rare meaning you can only have 1, and exclusive meaning you can't trade it, these items you have to get yourself) once you overcome the obsticle of gil you can buy just about anything.

On the last part, you're a bit confused. Weaponskills are the TP Abilities, in other FF games I think they're called Limit Break or Overdrive. You can do one once you achieve the required weapon skill limit (Example: Lvl 33 thf, learns Viper bite once his dager skill hits 100). Aside from that you have job abilites, you've got you 2 hour, Perfect Dodge. Sneak Attack, Trick attack, & Steal. (If i'm missing any somone else please correct me, my highest thf is only 50 ~.~)  And you've got some job traits that are always active.

Basic thf job consists of pulling mobs back to camp, And using Sneack attack & Trick attack to DD and put hate on your tank.

I strongly suggest going to like... Youtube.com and looking up some videos.

    Well said Telaki...

Ok,, you want a quest? Here's a quest.. Brown Belt.

1st. You have to do a LOT of quests in order to build up the fame for this. Not just your own town quest (Sandoria, Bastok, Windy) but Jueno fame, which is pretty tough. After you get the fame, and do a lot of subquests..

2nd. Go kill 3 Notorious monsters. In any order but these are them,

     a. Nue.. a tiger easy to kill after level 50ish or so solo. He spawns once every two hours in a far away place. So, you run all the way up and start killing placeholders (normal tigers) until you see Nue. If youre lucky, and you probably wont be, other ppl will be waiting too. So, if you lucky to actually claim and kill it, then you have to hope for a drop of a Nue fang. Took me 10 kills.

     b. Deadly Dodo... a cockatrice mob that again.. spawns once every 2hrs in a place. So, rinse and repeat same as Nue. if youre lucky, you get a dodo skin.

     c. Morolborger.. a big plant thing.. hes the best. He pops in a cave that take a bit to get to.. and the best thing? He pops once a DAY! So, you sit all day waiting for him, someone claims it. You have to wait again for a whole day. No lie. Or, you can do a BC and get a vine. Which is the way I did it, but unless you are 75, you aint getting that BC done. So, at 50 ish, youll have to wait for the reg one.

3rd. Take all these things to town, trade them in, get a great belt you can sell for 2 million gil. (which is a decent amount). Easy huh? Not just killing wabbits, hehe.

There are many quests like that, youll be lucky if you can solo. They are unlike most ones in other games like WoW or Gwars. Thats a HUGE amount of time and effort to put into one quest. You dont have to do it, but if you lack gil or are a Monk, youll want this belt. This is the tip of it. There are many more harder ones than easy ones. This is the main reason ppl love this game who play it. Its not McDonalds go in order, and move on. You have to think a lot about whos going, what food, etc.

There is only one quest I remember that required you to kill 100 things to get the reward, that was a job.. Dark Knight, where you had a big, weak greatsword and had to kill 100 w/e and you couldnt zone or logout. If you did, you had to do it all over again. Needless to say, I unlocked all jobs except Dark Knight.. just wasnt my thing.
