I got this game the first day of release.July 16. I been playing it up till now,and playing it alot.

As of right now the game is unfinished,(Badly unfinished)

The 1st problem is how the average gamer may spend there first day.The game manual is made by the players and is still being updated as we speak,so you will only know what the players know, and only the kind ones with time write anything.its called the RV wiki. And its STupid, this should be made by the Devs not the players.

The 2nd Problem is the learning curve, and all the backslash commands,.This should not be much of a problem but againe the game manual is unfinished or not correct.

The 3rd problem is lack of combat for the new player, they can not attack anything and are kinda forced into labor intenisive micro managing or crafting.wich againe forces you to read a unfinished wiki by the players.

The 4th problem is making cash to break evin,to fund your grind or to have fun,.Its vary hard to make anycash with out it taking up all your time, and you 90% of the time are still spending more then you can make,.The item decay is insaine and sucks you in to Buy more cash.

The 5th problem is no animals or anything for a fighter/hunter/animal handler to keep them selfs busy,.Right now you pvp or craft,.If ya pvp you dont make cash,if you craft, your on a crazy grind that eats cash just as fast.or your food for the vary VARY bord fighters, that are now all pvpers or pk.

The 6th problem and probly the game stoper for most,. THE LAG,.The game is not running good at all, they are trying hard to fix this issue but its still nasty nasty.

The 7th problem is logging in,.This is allso a vary VARY nasty problem that they need to fix,Loging in can take a hour sometimes,.

The 8th problem is players leaving,or hating the game.I dont hate the game,I hope it pans out,.But who am I kidding? Im no fool and I know my freinds are sick of trying to play it,and im sure 8 out of 10 players are going to give up on this game.

So as it stands right now,the players that are there are riding on hope that the game gets up off its knee's.Im giving the game a month to fix it self, then im quiting it,.Right now All I can do is pk,.LMAO I dont mind but,I dont have any combat skills and theres nothing to hunt or grind them on,So I sneek around and hunt players, its the only thing that keeps me hangin on,. But right now this game sucks,.

Yes this game had great potential.  Perhaps it will still pull through.  I think perhaps it had too focused a subject for such a vast game design idea.  I'd have tried apply some of their features to a more traditional game world to start, but I guess that's not all there is to it.

Still it is commendable that a small company tried to do something innovative.  It just COSTS so much to make one of these games.  If only a big company were willing to risk a LITTLE to do something NEW and perhaps.......dare I say it.......fun?

I'm pretty sure the game will push through.  The potential is there and everyone can see it.  And they way the devs respond to the community and get behind the game makes me believe that it will.

SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!

You really need to work on your list.  The first three items on it are the same thing.  Call it lack of information and be done with it.  Same with number 6 and 7, esentially the same thing call it networking problems.  Item 8 is really not a problem at all.  It is the effect brought on by other problems you listed, but is not a problem in and of itself, it should be removed.  Your list has 4 items.

there is no such thing as a lack of information in this game. If the wiki doesn't have the answer ask in the forums or in game or here:

I like the game,Im going to try and grow with it,.I got just as much hope as the rest of you.

But my list is relavent,1,2,3 may be effected by some of the same things but there differnt problems.

8 is a nasty problem that makes me sick, who are we kidding? we going to play this game with 100 players? maby less,.The state that this game is in,is a vary nasty first impresstion and alot of gamers will never look back,.

Im not here to trash this game,. but my points are valid, and I think its best to not let anymore players see it in its current state,.so yea.im here to warn them for now.

Ive seen this word get thrown around a lot. Mainly with a few recently "released" MMOs. It seems like thats the only thing a player needs to hear to drop money down on a pre-order these days.

Roma Victor has lots of potential, I'm sure of it, but it can easily be ruined by its premature release and very rocky, often frustrating beginning weeks.

I think that Lt. Deadend wrote an objective post, and it describes the game just as many, many other players have described it so far (without the flames and bashing).

I agree that there is a lack of information.  This is a much different type of mmorpg, one which may even seem more like a simulation of life in the Roman Empire rather than a typical action-based mmo.  This doesn't mean players must figure everything out for themselves, especially the most basic things that they should know to begin.  There should be a basic manual written by the devs.  Virtus believes that there is no such thing as lack of info on the game, and he is correct that forums and other sources can help new players, but the OP was referring to a lack of info supplied from the devs, and this is something that I think should have been done to promote this game a bit more.

No mmorpg is completely finished.  I agree.  However, it is strange to hear people take this so literally so that they find games like this, Seed, WWII Online, Saga of Ryzom, and others that released way before they were done, acceptable.  Grinreaper asks what mmo is completely finished?  Well, yes, I'd say Earth and Beyond is done (that was a good one), but honestly, a mmo that releases HAS to be complete to a certain point.  By this I mean it should include all basic functions and features, allow for players to log in freely and play with an acceptable amount of lag.  The game should feel complete while you play, rather than wondering where this feature is or "why can't I do this action when the devs said I could?"

Mmorpg grow over time and constantly evolve, they get patched, they get more content and change according to player and developer suggestions.  This "incompleteness" is different than the incompleteness we are seeing with Roma Victor.

OK I am sorry but having to use forums to play an MMO is getting old. I never do it and I never will. This is not a knock on RV, this is a general statement about any game. If I have to go to the forums to find something out because they can't keep up a current in game help system then they are just being lazy.

Some people are cool with it, some are not but expecting someone to constantly keep up with the forums to stay up to date about a game is wrong. Forums should NOT be the primary venue a company uses to communicate with it's customers. If they do then they are only communicatiing with a small portion of their playerbase.

Never preorder. Only buy games when they are released to the general retail public.

The only reason game companies sell preorders, is if they are short on cash and fear that once the word gets out about how crappy their game is, they will lose potential sales. Good quality games don't need to sell preorders, they often have free trials because they are confident their product will sell itself.

    Some examples of fraudulent preorders:

Dark and Light, Mourning, The Chronicle, Roma Victor; They all either promised things that were not in the game at the time of release or have/did not meet their promised release dates.

well i am on holidays so never been able to post but clearly others see the truth i posted a month ago and contrary to what the fanboys told people the game has very serious issues.

Only reason to buy this game is if you want to help small companies get rich even when the product is subpar.

Could you name a MMO that is more finished than RV? Can you name any that are less finished? Which category wins? Why?

Never said you had to ask on the forums, just that you could. In fact some one was doing a test to see if he could get just as much info in game as he could on the forums.

using RP you could find out just as much info in game as out of. No wiki or forums required. However the Forums do help with political debates and what not.

Like I said, it was a general statement. Having no first hand experience with RV I wouldn't know what in game systems they have in place for the players.

I am glad to hear some gave companies still beleive in documentation. Many seem to feel they can throw up a forum now and just use posts for critical information.

For me, half the fun in playing a game is learning HOW to play the game.  RV is very complex and greatly satisfies my need to have an intricate world to tinker in.  The most important thing I have found is how helpful everybody in-game is.  I have probably typed 200 questions into the chat window since I started playing and all have been politely answered.  So far, the RV community is small, but great.

I admit the community is very friendly and helpful which seems to be a common characteristic of mmorpg with small population.Other good examples are horizons and AC2.I found those community to be very nice and friendly too .

Sadly like those 2 ,RV is bland and boring .

This was the distinction I was tounge in cheek trying to make, Ty....thank you for putting it in a more complete format. With the exception of this tracking bug and the ills that have spun off of it, everything the devs said would be in the game at launch is there...maybe not as smooth as some ppl hoped, but there. Having been around the testing and release process most of my adult life, I know there are some things that just dont get found till you start firing live ammo, this bug seems to be one of those. It sucks, but it dosent make the game unfinished.

seriously.. there are couple 100% historical authentic bear_a321435's to be found in the deep dark forests of RV. Don't know if they fixed the bug with the criminal badge you got from them.. and the bears not attacking... and walking right trough them...

never saw a chicken or dog.. or heard about anyone seeing one...guess birds were pretty rare too back then.

see.. RB are keeping their promises...
  • shermon15shermon15 Member Posts: 61

RB needs to be more flexibile in its so called realism to entertainment ratio.  They will not get the attention of a larger audience without making the changes needed to remove the drudgery of the game play.

It requires funding to continue to develop, expand,  and run a MMO.  If you target only a tiny faction of players you cannot expect to grow as there are only a finite number of player who like the playstyle found in RV atm.  The population of gamers who like the style of RV as it currently exists are now playing RV.

Its going to take some amazing changes and additions to get past the bad start to even begin to lure people back.  Dont see it happening very fast with the size of the DEV team and without alot of cash infusion.

When the game caters to a larger market and more players gain interest in this game the potential of RV will increase until then RV will be at or below its potential depending on your view.
