Ok, a couple of questions about Pen & Paper RPGs...
_______________________________________________________________________________________
1: Supposedly the people who play them are "anti-social nerds"... Ok, what the hell? They obviously have enough friends to play their game, and that's a lot more than I have. How you suppose this little stereotype got started?
2: Supposedly males are more visual than women. That's why women buy romance novels, or something... Anyway, Pen & Paper RPGs don't have graphics or anything, so why is the stereotypical Pen & Paper RPG player male? You'd think it'd be the other way around. Any thoughts?
3: Ok, they seem like they would be fun to me, but, well... Yeah, they require too many people. At one point, I had about $250 or so in D&D books, but I never got to play the game because I don't know anybody. Anyone have any suggestions for someone looking to get into a game?

Ok, well, thanks for your input.

if you want to get into pen and paper RPGs, you go to your local game shop. They always have open games where they allow complete strangers to play. Most vets in rpgs are more than willing to allow "new blood" so you shouldnt have a problem thier.
I hope this helps
Yeah, I heard something about that back when there still was a local gaming shop. It closed down about two years ago, though. Sorry, I should've included this in my original post... Now the closest one is more than 200 miles away. I'm screwed...
It was a nice thought, though, Nexi. Anyone have any other ideas?

1)
The wannabe gangster, master of the art.. Lying. Yeah, an classic power gamer that doesn't have much interrest in roleplaying.
2)
Trenchcoat wearing, pony tail, and a goat moustache - Our semi metal head. He's cool alright, and lays down girls like no tomorrow. He prefers to play some rather odd characters, such as little girls who are possed by demons, or an old grumpy ratcatcher with an smelly dog.
3)
The semi geek, yet party boy. He's an lil' bugger, barely reaches me to the chest. Also quite popular with the girls, even though he's an RPG geek. Plays mostly mages.
4)
The homosexual-but-won't-admit-it-my-friends-will-kick-your-ass-if-you-don't-behave kiddo. He got an huge social network, which makes him think he's the big fish.. He isn't. Mostly just a lying, backstabbing bastard. Loves to play old army vets.
5)
Our GM. He's like an geek Guru, who have played every single PnP on the market. Unfortunately, he only use premade modules.. And is way to strict in his GMing style.
6)
Me. Pretty much just an screwed metal head, with no sense of reality. I play thiefs and interresting spellcasters(Shadow mage from Warhammer, yeah!)
So the stereotype really doesn't fit in here, as we're all vastly different from each other.
Ok, well, more specificly... Anyone have any other advice about how to get into it? I mean, short of shaving my head bald and writing "Interested in D&D" or something on the back, I mean... Yeah...
Anyway, thanks for you guys' input so far.
