    No, this is just the start of the public alpha.  They've been testing a few times a week for about 2 months now.  Great group of Developers there.  You should take a minute or two to head to the official website and peruse the forums.  Crazy amount of activity there and the developers are even taking the time to answer us on what they know to this point (without giving away too many goodies).  Many of us have been there for 6 years waiting on this to finally happen.  Even if you just stop by and go through the Stickies at the top of each section of the forum you'll be so drawn in you can't wait either.  Don't forget to sign up for the beta testing if you are into that sort of thing.  it's a lot of work but weneed everyone we can get, to help work out all the kinks before launch.  Hopefully see you there.  look me up.

    Given this game's history this is great, great news! It wasn't very long ago I thought the thing would close shop like so many others in recent years. I'll be happy with a Feb. '07 release.

    Actually my good friend, if you did indeed sign up for Beta then there is a slim chance you could've got into Alpha.

    I quote the following..

    "Over 100,000 fans have signed up for the Beta Program, which includes the Alpha and Beta phases of development. We'll be inviting tens of thousands of additional people into the Beta Program over the coming months."

    Just to clarify I wasn't saying I was in the alpha.  The dev's are very active there and we know they have play day once a week to test the new improvements, but yesterday (actually Wednesday) was the start of the public side of Alpha.  The beta (stage1) will still be a few weeks off probably around the first of next month.  There are also more than 100,000 signed up on the european forums.  But if you hang around in the forums and make yourself usefull, then you have a good chance of getting in early.  One Dev even runs the game right now with a gforce 4400.  So don't count yourself out if you have older equipment.

    You aint kidding about that.

    I still call this game MEO and in 2004 I was trolling the SWG forums saying "Quit SWG and play MEO.  It's gonna come out soon!"

    (I always had a love/hate reationship with SWG.  Now that SWG is dead, I hate that it is dead)

    I waited so long for this game to come out, been on the MEO Forums since Summer 2003, and we were all so excited about this game that was about to come out. But the development was slower than we all expected, and now the Beta is only weeks from being launched... How delightful...

    I've been waiting for this game since Turbine took full control of it last year. Alpha is good news indeed, and Beta is *just* around the corner. If I don't get into closed Beta, I will be very surprised. Here's to anticipation.

    I first found this game a longggggg time ago (October, 2003, to be exact), and I absolutely couldn't wait!  I kept checking the site, and nothing new ever came up, so I forgot about it.  Then, sometime last year, I went back, and it is finally starting to move along quicker!  And now it's almost in beta, wahoo!!  Hope I can get in and help make it better before it comes out.  That'd be quite an experience!
