...but I need some advice
I've been offline for quite sometime and have only today re-connected! yay for me.
I used to play FFXI and WOW (FFXI the far better game imho, not that I want to start an argument)
now I want to rejoin an mmo community but want to play a new game, after all rejoining ff now would put me 5/6 years behind a lot of players, but I am looking for a game as in depth, in both crafting, scale, community, character cusomisation and commeraderie as FF
so this is where you come in, any former FF players want to tell me what they are playing, in fact anyone let me know the game I should go and buy tommorow
Your decision is final, as i can only afford to buy 1 game (i must re-emphasise that I don't want to join a game much older than 3/4 months or wait more than a month for a release as I am quite litterally chomping at the bit
Many thanks my friends
Genghis

Try The Saga of Ryzom
They've got a free trial from which you can just start paying the monthly fee (15) and start playing w/out having to actually purchase the full game.
of course you need advice
it's your first post
I was actually hoping for a real good first post other than "hey, tell me what to play" then you leave never to come back. I doubt you even come back to check your post.

Welcome aboard.
The bad news, GenghisChris, is that we're in a bit of a dry spell right now, if you're looking for a new game that's everything you're looking for and you can't wait more than a month for a new release. There are some good games out there, but not released within the last few months, and there's no telling if or when another good game will come along out of the major contenders... but it almost certainly won't be within the next month or so.
There are a bunch of free trials out there, if you wanted to give some games a try while you wait for something good to come along. I would have recommended taking The Saga of Ryzom for a spin, but someone beat me to it. You might like EQ2, maybe. Worth taking the Trial of the Isle out for a testdrive, anyway, since it won't cost you anything. DDO isn't much like what you're looking for, but they'll let you play it for a week for free too. hehe.
...
This is where I draw the line: __________________.
and SnakKey I warned you it would be a lame first post, but don't cut me off short, I used to lurk around these forums and I plan on staying around for longer than most noobs with an unpretty question!
so SnaKey what game are you playing right now... and if you say Eve I may be forced to LOL

EVE is the best game out right now. the only one w/ FFA PVP besides Shadowbane, which is what i'm trying now. idk if I'll like it. Don't have the time to play EVE atm.
I also play GW when I'm drunk.
and I downloaded A Tale in The Desert the other day. idk if I'll like that one either, mainly due to the lack of a good guide to tell me what to do.
"become a blacksmith" ok......... so................. uhh.............. how?

Thanks Neschria I read up on the saga of ryzom and golly it sounds mighty good, I am being swayed in that direction... I'm also looking at guild wars factions, though not great the first instalment was fun, (Hunter/Necro btw... known as the one man army so I was)
Thanks again
Yeah, you are going to be behind the core playerbase that has stuck with them through all the bs but there has been a recent influx of new players and a return of the old so you will still have many on your level.
gl hf!
DL in progress, I'll report back on my experiences, think I'll play till ArchLord then finally WAR
So lots to look foward to... Game on!
