just starting game NEED HELP

in Final Fantasy XI

well i havent actually started yet but i was wondering before i started wat race i should be...

i want to be a galka or a taru but which one do you think is better for my first account??

please need opions

    Taru are more of a magical race. I think they get the highest MP of all races in caster classes.

    Galka are more Combat oriented.

    ahh ic ic well i was leanin towards taru but i will prlly be a galka now, the reason i was leaning towards a taru cuz i want to eventually be a summoner

    but what would you be voodoo? or what are you right now?

    if you want to be a summoner definetly go Taru.

    right now Im playing a Galkan Warrior and an Elvaan Red Mage

    Another option, if your like me and enjoy both melee and magic jobs that you want to eventually get to 75 then just play a Hume (Human) we can adapt extremely well to all the jobs and therefore be effective with all jobs at level 75. Sure we arnt quite as good with magic as Tarus (we dont look stupid though) and we arnt quite as good as Galka are with melee combat but we are great all rounders who can do pretty much anything.

    Just an idea :) its all upto you though, play what you will enjoy that is the best way to decide. There is no point playing a character you dislike in looks or whateveer just because of its starting stats.

    The majority of race only matters in the beginning, the first 30 or so lvls. I know lvl 75 Galka Whm's, Rdm's, Blm's, & Smn's, As well as 75 Taru War's, Pld's, Nin's, thf's, etc.. Any race can be any job, Some races might perform better then others, But that doesn't mean they're any worse. I've seen Tiamat do spike flail and kill every Taru in the alliance Mage & melee included <.<

    What i'm trying to emphasize on is race dosn't matter, in other games I understand that with Most races can only do 4-5 diffrent jobs, And a lot of people start the game thinking that, but ffxi is diffrent, most racial obsticles can be overcome.

    Aye, you have my thanks too! What class(es) is/are needed in this game though? Are there any race/jobs that are lacking? and what is a class (other then the beastmaster) that can solo at least a little bit?

    The first 2 questions I replied in another thread, so not going to answer. But on the last, I need you to specify what you mean.

    ANY job, Yes ANY can Solo mobs (I.E. Kill mobs by themselves), But what most can't do is kill experiance mobs, Because they're usually a higher level than you are. But even then, there are level ranges where all jobs can solo easy pray to decent challege mobs. But a lot of the time, getting that 15-50 exp pre kill, just doesn't seem reasonable when you need 30,000 to lvl (Btw thats like lvl 65+), So its just better to get a party.

    Well since im just learning the ropes here I want a character that can solo to at least 15 i mean ill most likely group but i learn faster when im alone just talking to the community n stuff

    15? Whm & Thf might be the only 2 of the starter jobs that can't solo to at least that. Personally, I solo all of my jobs to at least 20, That way I can skip the dunes (Basically the first place noobs go to party, lots of noobs.. so to say the least, its suicidial and exp sucks there).

    The dunes arnt that bad, most people do go there though as its faster to kill mobs in a party than solo mobs and you get more exp in a party.

    Yeah the dunes is pretty sucky, but you will probably have to go there though.

    I dont mind keep having to go back and leveling new jobs there, its fun. ^^

    You go to the dunes at level 10 or 11 and you can party there till level 20, but its best to solo in the highlands near there while searching for a party instead of just sitting down and searching.
