Ok...(help with class selection)

I've decided that the odds of me returning to the game is at least 80%.

Now for the hard part...  I need help with a class.

The last time I attempted DAoC, I was diagnosed with altaholism and it took me a few months (years) to get over it.

Here's a list of things I'd like:

I like mages, so my class will be a mage of sorts.

I like dealing damage, damage is fun.

I don't care for the realm, but midgard isn't at the top of my list (I just find the area to be too depressing most of the time) but if it houses my class, I'll go to it.

I'd like the ability to be solo-friendly, but grouping and PVP is where my real aim will be at end-game.

I tend to not like pet classes, but the necromancer is an exception to this in that they attack through their pet.

If I joined a group, I'd like to be recognized as a primary damage dealer, and I'd like to be very good at this aspect, but if I'm OK and were able to hybridize a bit.

This is a very...difficult thing to figure out...

Oh, yeah, I prefer single-target nuking over wide-area or PBAoEing, though it'd be nice to do targeted AoE's if the situation called for it, but it is not a necessity.

Lets see...

Ahh, yes, it'd be nice if power regen wasn't an issue, also (IE downtime of less than 45 seconds at most).  However, I won't sacrifice key features I'd like to get this one thing.

I also don't mind if they're a first target thing, or drop "fast" compared to other mages.  To me, that is a non-issue.

Anyone able to post suggestions as to which classes would suit me?

    Alb: Wizard
    Hib: Eldritch
    Mid: Runemaster

Out of them I guess Eldritch would be the one most feared considering the damage.

I've heard range is also an issue, and that eldritches don't have as much range as wizards (runemasters are just flat-ass boned)  is this true?

Also, if you were able to state classes that are still damage primary but have support utilities, it'd be nice.

I also forgot, thanks for the help thus far.

Nothing different between eldritch and wizard ranges, really. Eldritch and wizard both have some support spells but I think sorcerer/mentalist are a little bit better at it while having quite good damage.

    Thanks for the link.

Ok, now I have a few more to help narrow it down.  I'm also considering (other than the primary damage mage of each respective realm) heretic, necromancer, warlock.

Any descriptions of how the classes handle (preferably in RVR) would be great.

Eld/wizzie range are identical for bolt type shots. DD's again the same. thing is elds depending on spec can be alot faster. ie light eld, lower dps bolts but quicker. void = slower but harder hits. especially good for alpha strikes in a team.

ok, so what kind of speed difference is there at max level (with maxed out dex) between a wizie with a base 2.8 second spell and an eldritch with a base 2.8 second spell?

EDIT:  Let's assume the eld is an elf and the wiz an avalonian

Depends on your armor and weapon.  Overall endgame not much.  Also speed sometimes sacrifices damage and hit ratio.

If your looking to get your speed up there are several items out there that will increase your cap for the attribute needed they are easyto find. just go to housing.

I have also played Warlock is NOT a speed class by any means once you get up to level 30 though your down time is next to nothing.  They used to be really awesome for PvP but now they are farming helpers for PvE.  Most of the warlock community are disgruntled in the change of the class.

    1.  Stay away from mid period.

    2.  Decide if you want PvP or  PVE (If PVE only just go play on Gaheris you get to play all three realms there.

    3.  Farming toons- necro, friar, armsman

    4.  hit me back with somemore questions.

If what you want is RvR and to be the primary damage dealer without pets, then your two best choices will be a Warlock or Bainshee.

Bainshee single target DD is much better than the Elds.  209 level 45 for the Eld spec DD, 223 level 48 baseline DD for the Bainshee.  You do more damage with less resists.  Further, in RvR, AoE spells will be the most help and get you the most realm points.  Bainshees have a CAOE spell.  That is it is a damage spell that is AoE that forms a cone for the characters location out.  It does a lot of damage.  Not to mention you can get an AoE bolt.  It goes to a certain location and explodes into a PbAoE.  It is level 50 and does 296 damage.  You also have a nearsight.

The downside to the Bainshee is everyone targets you to kill and you do not have any CC.  Elds will have a baseline stun.  All you have is a long range snare.  So instead of helping you stay alive, it just agroes more targets on you.

Ok, I missworded a bit.  Speed isn't all I care about, the one guy just said that a light eld can get very fast compared to a wiz.

I'll figure something out.  Thanks for all the help.

make sure you take a look at the reaver also ...very nice hybrid damage dealer with some nice spells plus your lifetaps shorten your down time. course  i'm a little biased towards them  got my 1st lvl 50 with one. not bad in rvr either.

Why the devil did the devs have to make it so hard to chose a realm/class?
