2Moons: Game Announced, Exclusive Interview

David Perry - the legendary founder of Shiny Entertainment - has teamed up with Acclaim to produce what he says may be the most violent MMORPG ever. In a 20 minute exclusive audio interview, MMORPG.com became the first to learn about what Perry has planned.

image Acclaim has teamed up with legendary designer David Perry to build a brand new and entirely free MMORPG.

“The game is going to probably be the most violent MMO on the market,” explained Perry – the founder of Shiny Entertainment - whose resume includes Earthworm Jim and Enter the Matrix.

2Moons is a fantasy MMORPG that relies on advertising to make money. All advertising will be in the UI – not the world – and most surprising is that it will also be entirely optional for the player.

You can read more here or check out the audio interview in full.

This is not a game created by Perry. SadSurfer already pointed it out in the hype section, but this game is just Dekaron renamed. David Perry's name is just a marketing gimmick used by acclaim. He had nothing to do with the development originally. Dekaron is just another korean grinder. It's no different than the other 8 dozen korean games on the list.

but from what david said, he has programmers tweaking/changing the game around. so maybe the game is kinda or totally different from dekaron? we'll know in the future

They were also "tweaking" RF Online, Lineage, etc for western audiences. There is very little "tweaking" that can be done in these games. Tweaking usually means that they slightly increase the xp rate then put the game on auto pilot. Anything else, and it might break future patches from the real developers.

Edit: I'm listening to the interview now. It's funny hearing this guy talk about the game as if he created it. His summary of the game's lore is awful. It's as if he just read about it yesterday.

The interviews tells you about some good concepts that he's trying to create with this game. And yes he didn't make this game but he's making some heavy chaning to the gameplay because i don't think you need a team of 70 people to do just some translations . Hopefully he can pull this project off because it sounds very good

    Hey guys,

I've spoken to Howard and David about this and should have the matter (Dekaron) cleared up in a matter of moments. I'm just putting together a brief news item.

Hey...  This is David Perry.  :)

I've just sent a quote to Dana to be more clear.  (We had only intended to announce the game today and not get into a ton of detail until later.)   But I do understand how this would confuse, so I do want to be clear that this is not a normal lazy localization of a foreign game.  There's a ton of work going in, starting with writing a new story!  The whole thing should feel edgy and cool and M-Rated.  The American writer who is working with me is having a blast working on the NPC dialog (right now) as there's no restrictions on him.  (We really do have the original guys 100% behind us + my guys.)

So please just consider this as an announcement, you will see more and more in the coming months.  We will also be inviting our beta testers to provide design input as many will be students of design.  I'm looking forward to their input to help change the way people think about foreign titles.

Basically the Korean team are very talented passionate people, hoping we can find a way for you guys to enjoy their work!

I'm gonna do all I can to make that happen.

In the coming months I will try to post more to my blog so you can see how that process goes.

It would be great if you could follow through on those promises. Unfortunately most of us older mmo community members are so jaded/bitter/skeptical that we won't believe you until we see the game first hand. We have been lied to, stepped on, and used by so many mmo developers in the past that we just can't trust them anymore.

Dave has done some amazing things in the past but he has also does some amazingly boneheaded things too.  This is the man who bragged about being able to kill hookers in a game and that's why the game was cool.

Got to admit I was skeptical when I saw... "Perry hopes to see 2Moons on the market within six months of today’s announcement," following a statement about building a "new game." That would have to be some kind of record for a new MMO.

But with the clarification, it seems feasible. Good luck with it!

I'd rather hear unique and interesting gameplay ideas rather then 'It'll be the most violent game EVAR'!    Nevermind the shallow, juvenile attitude that displays, it doesn't take much talent to make a game 'graphically shocking'. It -does- take talent to make a game GOOD though.

I guess I'm just not representative of the demographic he's aiming for. :p

Come on people there is no mystery here. Another ‘prospector’ in the MMORPG gold rush.

To be honest this game might be big, real big as they seem to have a target audience in mind and many of the things that were said make me feel they have thought this one out.

If you take God of War + Diablo, *sprinkle in some “we want to pull in people who might have thought MMORPG’s were too hard to learn”*, mix with uber violence you get what sounds like a shallow, dumbed down game that is designed to attract a certain type of players. Now if you mix this all up in an Asian port and you get a cut down development cycle that will allow you to beat AoC to be the first M rated MMORPG and hope to get press, hype and sales off this and the big M rating. Let’s face it that ‘M’ is like when they put parental advisory or explicit stickers on music – makes the kids want to buy it even more and that is who this games seems to be designed for.

Being a 34 year old I would love to see a true mature MMORPG. To me mature does not = blood and sweet finishing moves. Mature equals complexity, dark subject matter, realism, things that question you morally all in an environment that is unforgiving and full of consequences.

This game may be the World of Diablo people seem to want

That in-game advertisement idea is great for people on a tight budget.  Heck it even rewards them with some in-game advancements.  I just wonder how large the ads will be on the UI?  Plus will the ads be a static image or with they animate?  If they animate you could run into bandwidth trouble for people using slower connectiosn.  How often will these ads refresh?  Can you click on the ads and have them take you directly to the company's website?

I don't have time right now to listen to the audio portion, where any of these items addressed?

I have a really good feeling about this game. It is always a very good sign when you have a target audience planned. This game has my full attention, and I hope it keeps it for a good long time!

A free game, huh? I can only wonder what kind of player base this game will get. Yeah yeah, it'll have an M rating. Like anyone has ever cared about ratings. I have a bad feeling about this..

Average level of dialogue will probably be

    "lol"
    "party som1"
    "lfg lfg lfg lfg"
    "lol"
    "omg u hax!11"
    "lol"
    "wts dagger +1"

Would be awesome if they would somehow enforce the rating, but it wont probably happen since they want as many players as possible -> more clicks on ads -> more money.

Make a game, steal the idea from.. the first mmorpg.., create new graphics, generate new lore, make "bring me rat tails" -quests and add some uh-oh _VIOLENCE_ in it and we have a brand new game that is a real pioneer on the mmorpg industry!  No wait.. it somehow sounds familiar.

I would seriously consider the game just by what was said alone.. optiona ad's and mass violence.. =)

And if the adds where good I would allow them to run no problem.. The problem with add's is there boring.. make them streamline and you get more people looking at them..

As long as I can kill a hooker by impaling her on my giant sword I'll be happy LOL and if this guy can make that happen then praise be to him

Yes, ive posted the beta on OUR teams private forums as well. I like the ideas, im concerned about a few things being that this is a Korean port by design.
David has commented on a few things that spark even my interest, one major comment was what kind of tester he's looking for.

Im down for a little old school fun David rock on.

Its been forever since ive loaded up Diablo. Even after all this time the game still is addictive and fresh.
