I wonder who will buy this kind of video game? I wonder if it could cause an increase in bullying?
I doubt any more than crazy postal workers increased when Postal 2 came out all those years ago, or massive murdering rampages when GTA1 was released.
Their games, they cause their little hooplah then people go on and see them for what they are, entertainment. Crazy, boring and repetetive games most of the time, but just game none the less.

Bullying is a little different from being a crazed postal worker or carjacking. It's something that is a little lower on the inhibition scale. In other words, bullying is something that someone is more proned to do because the repurcussions aren't as high.
Kids in school are at an impressionable age. When they hear teachers telling them bullying is wrong but then go home and see it as a fun activity and something acceptable in the game, they're not as good at discerning reality from fiction in that sense.
I think it will increase bullying in kids that play it. I don't see how it could decrease it.

Then the parents of said children should really be making sure their kids aren't playing M rated games, dont you think? The ESRB goes to great lengths to make sure these is overly obvious on all game related packaging and the rating system is pretty clear.
Let's face it, this game isn't ment for an 11 year old who still doesn't know her butt from her elbow, it's meant for a 17+ gamer that happens to know it's just that, a game.
If what you say happens, then we can't blame the developer, blame the parents that either dont' care what their kids are playing or aren't paying enough attention in the first place to make sure it doesn't happen.

Sure it's the parents fault. I didn't say that. But that's only half the story.
It's also the fault of the people that put this stuff out. It's a game about bullying. Who do you think is going to be attracted to a game about school bullying? Now if you were a game developer and knew that you were making a violent game that appealed to impressionable school age kids and knew also that there were parents out there that don't give a rats ass about what their kids play, wouldn't you at some point look at what you are doing and let your conscience speak up? Or is that something that is muted over the money they make?
I know what all of you mean and I do agree that it could increase bullying, but there are many, many factors to how. ESRB, parents, children. I don't know why RockStar wanted to use elementary school kids, when they could have done highschool or college.
How about just posting the link to your news source in your signature and stop with the constant link threads about stuff? I know you just find something on the site you wander on and post links to stories you find, interesting and spam it back here to make yourself look I don't know... informed.
Oh and bout the videogame bully, single mother parents will only buy them.

People who buy this game will be the same ones who thought it was ok to buy GTA for their 8 year old. Then when the kid does something and gets national attention they will use the game as a scapegoat for their poor parenting skills.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Yup, your right, that's an awefully good point that I will agree with you on. Violence, just like sex, sells games and your probably right that the money they will make off this game probably far outwheigh's any moral dilema they have with making a game like this in the first place.
It is unfortunate, however a part of reality. I mean seriously, we're talking about a developer that makes game where you can whore out prostitutes on the streets and cause massive amounts of carnage on an entire city and be "rewarded" for it no less.
Certainly we can make an argument for the morality of the games themselves, I'm just saying we should just as equally point out that these games are not supposed to be for children and at the very least encourage parents to pay attention to the ratings.

People used to make money off of information. Since the internet was developed it's purpose was free information. This setting is free information with a personal opinion. If I post a news thread, now I just post the news with no opinion till after more post within. But, oh well, I guess you can acuse me of bullying if bullying mean's challenging another's posting habits. Most the time people don't know what to say because they cannot develop a valid opinion whereas theirs has already be taken.

Well Modjoe, I'm happy for you that you live in a wonderful society where there are no bullies in high school. Where I come from there are bullies in high school, they most often travel in large packs, and they do ostricise, rob, and beat up on their peers. Why? I don't know, but I highly doubt it has anything to do with the lack of maturity or self etseem of those who are being bullied.
