obligate re-rating after certain time periods

holythoughholythough Member Posts: 236

Seems that from the day 1 people can rate a game there rating still affects they rating now.

for instance DAoC goes back to a rating of Mar 10, 2003 but sins then they game TOTALLY changed i think its unfair that these ratings still affect the rating on the main page.

After a certain period of time or after the release of an expansion these peope rating should be removed and they should be mailed about this so the can rerated the game so to get a fair ranking.

We've discussed this, and you raise a valid point, however, the problem is that there are going to be a large number of people who believe that their original rating is good and don't want to change it. Short of harassing them with email to tell them their votes have expired, their votes will just slip off the bottom and be forgotten.

The result, I suspect, would be that the only active votes on older games would be people with very strong (likely negative) opinions.

I think SWGs overall rating shows that a game's rating can change dramatically in the right circumstances, regardless of old votes.

All that said, you are correct. The games do change. That is why we're going to redouble our efforts to re-review games every year.

This is just where i see they problem

i actaully seen some positive comments on this game after last changes they made for the first time in ages. Let say this game gets 'fixed' so to say. It's going to take freaking forever to turn the rating around and reflect this because it will be a slow comeback because of the massive rating been done to lower the rating of this game when they did does changes. and looking at the rating now it doesn't do  justice to way it was 'broken' when they changes where made it may have plundge but not anyway near as much as it should have pludged IMO. I Actaully played this game on release and liked it alot and was lucky enough to quit before they now legendary changes where made. I only played a bit of they changed game so im not really entiteld to really comment on them but when i tryed the changed game by a friend of my i went "what the hell where they thinking, i just blown away by in my eyes stupity of they changes.

Sorry about the rant i sooo agreeing on they fact they euh fucked up a good game i think the players got screwed in this particular case

well back to the reall topic here i think although your comments are very valid there  really easy ways to work around them.

first you could note to the people that rate a game that the rating will be followed up in a given time so to keep them valid. This would IMO have an extra positive effect of making people think before they do a quick rating. second just one e-mail when the voted expires in a period of at least 6 months and maybe a follow up to be sure it isn't missed would be more then enough sins mmorpg may change but they don't change that fast. If a serious mmorpg players thinks 2 e-mails after 6 months is herrasment i personal don't take that person seriously and i would vote that that kinda persons shouldn't vote entirely sins there pissed off way to quickly and probably give too negative ratings anyway

I do agree on the fact you may get more strong opinions in the ratings but saying that those are the opinions i value the most because there maybe a little lower then they should be they mostly are acompanied with detailed information on where it has gone wrong for them, which in most case let me stay clear of mmo's i really wouldn't have liked anyway and let me play the mmo's with problems i can live with.

Also i think you should take into account that this negative effect would aply for all mmo's on the list so sins all values are lowered this would cancel out the effect between the mmo's on the list. With a link to set the old rating active again, re-rate link and a remove rating link this could be fully automated so although i see a little pain in setting it up properly it would be almost no work after setting it up.  Only problem i really see is that new mmo's will have a great change of comming on top of the list because of this effect but then again this will give the (better) new mmorpg a temperary highlight on your page which in turn would benefit those game which would give them some extra support in time thats most crucial for a mmorpg and so would benefit mmorpg land in the long run which i think is the purpose of this site anyway
