Let me start off by saying that EVERYONE has their own opinion. Take any game in the world and you will find people who like it and people who do not. Each one of us has different things that are most important.
Anyway, I have played for 9 days now (quite heavily) and am in a guild which I joined on day one. My character has just started to become pretty fun. First bit was a bit boring and tougher. I love how you can sub class. For example, I am a warrior (a zerker now). I also played as a cleric and spiritist for 10 & 15 levels so I could use some of their spells. Really nice concept.
Like any game out the gate, this one has issues. I think it has serious potential but the question will be does it live up to that. They are doing a 7 day trial right now which is a solid marketing move.
I like the game as far as crafting goes and the fact that it is a player run world. Being able to buy plots to build houses and such is nice and could lead to something really great (again, time will tell if they put in all the promised code).
I am not disappointed that I bought the game at all. Sure, there are things that piss me off but I can say that about any game I have played over the years. It is a nice break from AC2 which is boring the hell out of me.
Like any game, whiners are out in full force. This class is too powerful, they nerfed my class, I have no life and played 500 hours this month and now there is no content, the sun is out, I should be able to kill anything at any time and so on.
The team is updating the code and it looks as if they are on top of the ideas. The next couple of months will be critical as it will show if this game will be great or just a time passer. I say, if you are looking for something new and different, give it a try.
This is what I did because I could not stand AC2 anymore and did not want to not play anything while waiting for EQ2 or something else.
My advice is get in a guild if you play so you have some people to help you out, makes a world of difference. Without this, you may be lost.
Anyway, have fun in whatever you choose.

I just wanted to add a couple things.
I am an adult
Have been playing games since when I was a little kid, played other mmorpgs like AC,EQ,AC2, The Realm, Horizons, etc. Developed mini games and so on.
I am NOT saying Horizions is the greatest in the world but a nice alternative if you are looking for a break. Another think I like doing is getting in a game at the start or close to it. Sure, you get to experience all the bugs and such but you also get to develop with the game and be there for it all.
Like most of these games, I get bored with repetition. Kill same thing over and over to level. AC2 is a shining example of this model. Horizons is also good (as far as I can tell thus far) at Soloing. I solo all the time pretty much. Forced grouping is a no no in my book.
Anyways, good luck out there and cya around.

Love horizons, great concept great world and everything.
Did not give them my VISA number though, I play euro servers BTW and we had no billing from start.
The lack of In game support is more then i can take, or any support really, as much as I love the game I will not condone this lazy ass cheap attitude, how can it be worth 13£ ??
Nope siree, and I hope everyone will do the same, by subscribing to this we send out totally the wrong message to developers of these things, its bad enough as it is with half finnished products hitting the stores, we want it to in the OTHER direction, not from bad to worse.
When they get support I will jump back in, if I havent found something else by then.
Umbrood
PS, I know ive said this before but it is important DS.

Yes, forgot to mention the biggest issue, support. I have not noticed this as I am not one to need support, never have actually.
Their support is non-existant though. I guess I don't need a game to be close to perfect to play
Like I said, if you are bored.

Yea, that's why guild is important. If I was 'alone', the chat would be lacking for sure.
There is a lot planned for this game. I like putting my crafted items up for sale at the stores and like how the world is player run so no uber loot dropping. Makes crafters more valuable and have a sense of purpose.
According to the test server, there are more needed changes on the way.
Recently we just had a big fight at a major city and there are things which need to be fixed by players, again sense of purpose.
Like I said, the next couple of months will be a telling sign of things to come. At least they are active with their planning.
But for me, beats sitting around as the other games are old to me now and others like EQ2, City of Heros, etc are not out yet.

Horizons was a game I wanted to like a whole bunch. It has it's strong points; I think the crafting system is deep (though tedious) and the interface has great customization options. But there've been a lot of things that simply should have been fixed before the game went live. Examples? Dragon aging, plot storage, higher tier resources in the world are just a few features promised that haven't shown yet - and the customer support has been the worst I've personally experienced outside a SOE game. And in the end, I think the bad outweighs the good.
I think Horizons will ultimately go down as an idea that looked great on paper but failed in practice. Note to AE and Atari: Execution is everything, peeps.
