Well i am interested in this game but reading things in other upcoming MMORPG's everyone says "I hope it's not going to be a game like Lineage II" Why is that?

Well Lineage 2 is a grind fest and it also has Open PvP.. Could be either reason? Those communities are either carebear or hate grinds.

L2 is very unpopular because its DIFFICULT.....nothing more.

It has a difficult grind, it has a difficult economy, it has a difficult social environment.......

People don't like the grind because they want level cap in a month like the newer games so they can bitch about how the endgame sucks, get bored and leave it in two months. Bots are a huge issue in L2 because players are to f*cking lazy to put the effort into the economy themselves. The game makes it so that guilds have limited amount of members so each person COUNTS. So if you don't participate socially with your guild or embarrass them they might kick you...

In a nutshell, thats it.....The game is fine, many people who don't like it here on MMORPG.com never even played it or tried it in beta for 10 minutes 3 years ago and are now subject matter experts on the current state of the game or never made it out of the starter zone because another noob whacked them and now everyone in the game sucks or something stupid like that.

I played L2 for about 3 months before giving up in frustration. I was well on my way to the end game content, was a member of an awesome guild, but all of a sudden I had this awakening - "this game is not fun." From what I could see:

-Pitiful lack of content. They spent all their time making the world look pretty, and forgot to give the players stuff to do. Theres very few quests, very few dungeons, most of the time your just hacking your way through the countryside with no real goal except to collect more of that precious adena.

-FUBAR economy. An average sword costs 1 million adena? Are you joking? What were the devs thinking? No one dares engage in PvP because they're so worried they'll lose weeks of work.

-Chinese farmers. They were bad - real bad. Not sure if they're still around, but given NCsofts absolutely atrocious customer service, I wouldn't be surprised.

To sum it up, L2 is like WoW - the beauty is only skin deep.

L2's graphics are amazing, it was the first mmorpg I saw and the visuals blew my mind. It is a super hard game, but to each there own, just not for me. Also, from what I've seen I'm not an expert by any means, the difficulty of the game has created a somewhat bitter and meanspirited community. I could be wrong and hate to generalize too much, that is just what I saw.

Thats a fair assessment. Where I would disagree is the bitter, meanspirited community part. From my personal experience it is the people who didn't like or dont play the the game that feel this way.

Look at the forums around here. People just hate this game and start threads about it for no real reason. They also tend to lash out at all Korean games simple because they may not fit their playstyle or personal taste. Look at the actual players of L2's replies and discussions, they are no different then any other game. Class questions, advice, gripes about this or that alll fairly normal between players.

Its the haters and nonplayers that are the trollers, bitter and meanspirited. Go to the main forum any day of the week and odds are some knothead has a "all Korean games suck" or "why does L2 suck" thread (or some similar flame bait topic). And its always the same people.

I've met several people from this forum in game right here and all where very nice, helpful people.L2 players on this forum for the most part dont go starting topics like "why L2 pwns" or "L2 is great" they keep low and defend when they need to. We have a fairly good game and know it. Its not perfect but no game is. No point it getting into flame wars with the asshats who minds we can not change anyway.

I played the original lineage for years, was a HUGE fan of the game(I still rank it as one of the best MMORPG's ever), and was very excited when lineage 2 was announced.  I played during beta, continued playing for a while after it was released, and every now and then go back to give the game another shot(I was REALLY wanting to give lineage 2 every chance to make me a fan).

For a game with such a huge base to build on(lineage was the largest MMORPG in the world for a pretty decent stretch of time, and the development of the game created a major buzz in the game), lineage 2 unfortunately fell far short of expectations.  For me, there are a few major reasons that the game failed.

Graphics--The game world is visually stunning, you can sit and stare at the waterfalls and just be amazed, but the character graphics are seriously lacking.  When you have an earlier generation game (everquest) which allows for more customization of your character's look, there is a problem.

Controls--This is just me, but I found the game controls bulky and difficult to get used to.  I know it's a matter of getting used to them, for some reason though, I either like the controls from the start, or it always bugs me no matter how long I play(it's the reason that oblivion 4 is sitting in my junk closet and will never again see the light of day, I can't get used to those game controls either).

Farming--From almost the first day of it's launch, lineage 2 has been plagued with scripts and bots.  While it isn't a huge issue in a game like this(you can always go hunt somewhere else), it does get annoying to see the same character hunting the choice spots all day every day.

Content--There just isn't much to do beyond level grind and farming.  There just aren't as many quests to do as there are in other comparable games, and most of the quests I ran across in lineage 2 were either "go to soandso and deliver this item" or "kill x number of this monster and bring back the items they drop".  Granted, this is a problem for most MMORPG's as NPC's are limited in what they can do, but it would be nice to see a bit more puzzles to solve in the game.

All that being said, I still put the original Lineage up as one of my all time favorites, and if NC ever puts out an MMORPG that can even come close to matching the original, I will be the first to go nuts over it.

Every game i've played lacks content and by content i don't mean new leveling areas. I mean things to do in the friggin game.

For example, lineage 2 is releasing a radio program. That's great.

Why not release new things in the game that give different venues for the player, different things to do, side quests, things unrelated to PvP, PvE, castle siege, money, etc. Fun things to do.

    Short and Simple!

1.) Very Grindy! Takes a long long time to level up.

2.) Requires quite a bit of devotion to a clan to get anywhere.

3.) Economy is harsh because farmers rule it and it is easy for them to do because the economy is totally ran by the "players".

4.) No centralized story line to move you along.

    5.) And of course Bots!

So really it just takes more time than most people want to really put into a game. I also don't like the game for that reason, but for me there is much much more so I still play it and think it is the greatest MMO on the market. If I feel grinded out I take a break and do some RL things or go play Guild Wars for an hour doing a quest or something.

In the end tho, it is like any other game except takes longer (more play time), has no instaces for the farmers and bots to hide in, and has superior graphics than 95% of the MMOs out there.

I'll admit, the extent of my playing of Lineage II has been limited to private servers, so I've a very different experience than most.

I do agree with the grinding bit, but then you also have to realize that a good portion of many MMOs can involve grinding.

Lack of content is a killer, though. I agree in saying that NPCs should be able to do more - like, in EQ2 for example, a friend of mine was telling me he found a quest that was hidden in a piece of armor that he happened to pick up. That's some cool shit - I wouldn't mind seeing something like that.

People calling the game hard is honestly a pussy excuse. A previous post was right - some folks just don't want to devote the time to get themselves up in levels. Like, for instance, when I briefly played WoW, I was pissed because I was constantly getting screwed out of my money; the game wouldn't cut me any breaks, and shit got expensive. I managed to take the time, though, and soon enough money came easier.

It happens in every MMO - each one has a different system to figure out. Hell, I was really turned off by EVE Online when I first played because there was just so much to it. I didn't take them time to figure it out. Sadly, folks don't want to take that time, it seems - they want to be an expert within five minutes.

It reminds me of a conversation I had with this chick a few weeks ago - we were discussing anime, and the one Love Hina came up. (If you don't know, it's about this guy who's in charge of a girls' dormitory. Sexual tension and hilarity ensues) So she's all like, "Why does he have to spend the whole series chasing this one girl? Why can't he just get her now?" And I was like, "Well, if that happened, there wouldn't be any fucking story, would there?"

I keep digressing, but same point, I think.

I realy do love Lineage II. I've played the game for a year, sadly over half of that time on Private servers.

My problem with the game is that it does have a very harsh economy. Now, when the game started out a lot of players were poor, so of course there were many groups out there that would use no SS or whatever. They'd kill a bit slower but make much more money in the long run.

The problem is, now a days no one does that. If you don't use soulshots you won't get into a party, simple as that. To make matters worse i'll spell it out a bit:

For my 51 SH it would take roughly 720 Adena to kill a mob. This is based off of BSPSC = 120 each, and my weapon took 3, and I 2 shot the mob.

I would get back anywhere from 700-1.1k adena from a kill. Somtimes I would get nothing.

The problem was is that after a while of noticing, I was actualy losing money grinding. I played the game fast, yes. I got up to level 50 in about 2- 2 1/2 weeks. However, durring that whole time money was very hard to get.

before you say the manor system, I tried. The manor system in the mid levels on bartz is horribly screwed right now. The castle owners just don't care about it atm honestly, and even if they do put out enough seeds the bot's gobble them all up with inhuman-like speed. In a game like lineage II my only option realy was to simply kill to earn money.

I finaly did find a decent way to make money, but it involved using the manor system at lower levels for enria. Still that one didn't work near as well as planned.

It realy is a shame. I love the base mechanics in the game, and that's why it's always kept me coming back. However, I sadly will continue playing the game without retail, because it's simply more fun you could say. With college coming up I won't have the 10+ hours I was devouting to the game before, so I will be serriously stuck behind the rest of my clan.

So honestly, the game is a great game. However, it is plauged by a companie that doesn't give a damn about the North America market.

Dude!!! No man you should come play on kain with our clan bro. What the problem is, you can't rush to lvl up. If you grind for money more than you do exp, in the end you will actually lvl faster.

Sometimes our clan gets a party togeather and we don't use shots.

Also just hunting isn't what is suppose to make you money. The secret to L2 is playing the market and Raiding. Also smokin events. Soloing without shots is awesome. And the thing that brings me loads now is my little scavy alt who gets all my mats. For example I crafted an A grade ring for 1mil, the ring is worth 17mil. That is 16mil profit in about 20 minutes and a few hours lvling up my dwarf. Actually L2 economy after you get it all figured out is pretty awesome. It is when I am almost happy ppl ebay their money because they will actually buy my overpriced stuff...lol...that is "market price"

Raiding is awesome for hard to find mats, and if you are lucky full item drops.

Yes it took me about 12 damn months to figure out the l2 econ but man...it is cake... Of course there is some crap that is really annoying tho...lol... But it isn't completly necescarry to have.

Oh an BTW, yea I am going back to college too...but this time I gotta make sure I study...lol Learning Japanese is hard!

Heh ... I love the game. But I'll be leaving it soon after 2 years. The grind doesn't phase me at all. You earn every level and its great. The economy, however, reeks. The manor system is great if you can camp the area for the second that seeds are available, but if you can't, you're SOL. Buying/selling takes enormous amounts of time as well. So for the player who can't devote 40 hrs a week to the game, you can't afford to play. Or you simply can't level. You choose: make adena this month or actually play this month.

And the bots. Every single good grinding spot or good drop spot is saturated with bots. And typically they are run by and supported by the high level alliance/clans so if you drive them away/kill them an uber high level, maxed out equipment toon comes by and drops you and your party and will camp the spot preventing decent rez.

I love the seiging ... the scale of it all ... but I HATE with a passion the cheating (bots, L2Walker, adena buying) that is integral to the game now. And the customer service ... is non-existant to downright hostile.

  • JukanJukan Member UncommonPosts: 325
Yeah I guess if you couldn't cheat at all the game would be more fair. Like any game, but because L2 is so competitve you can feel more when the sword cracks open your skull.

The economy I play while I am gone to classes or whatever. I grind and party in my free time. This way I can be hardcore but still it dosn't take all my time.

I will be serious though, if it wasn't for a select few in game I probally wouldn't be playing this game. Would I play another MMO? No probally not...lol Maybe I would play GW, but thats it.

Nah man, I don't think I could reroll. (plus, if I did I would bring my friend I play with along with me , bad for him).

I know about raiding, all of that good stuff, and that's what I had done.

One of the problems in L2 is you realy need money to make money. Events, ect. generaly pull me in a decent bit when they are out, but eh, I just got tired of the game.

    Oh, believe me... I am!!!!

Also, I agree with Dan Reynolds on the L2 quests. They are just horrible. The presentation is horrible (tiny writing that is very close together) and there is always a variety of redundant people you need to speak with. It's funny, I'm not a WoW player, but when I tried it out I never took any quests because I figured that they would be like L2 quests. Then I started takking them because I was curious and in the end I just started taking EVERY WoW quest I could because I knew I would enjoy them. Now, they aren't really that different from L2 quests in that there are just as many "kill this mob x amount of times" or "deliver this here..." But they were streamlined just enough that I found them really fun.

But L2 quests! Heck... I'm dreading the sub-class and 3rd class change quests. Part of me just wants to skip su subclass  all together because I hate L2 quests so much.

I just hope Aion's quests are better!

Look i would be frustrated if i were you too.  You are looking for WoW, not L2.  L2 is a pure pvp game and a hardcore one at that. The designers have limited content because they wanted limited content. They focus a great deal of design on pvp, sieges, etc.  The farmers are bad but it depends on the server.  On Kain, you hardly notice them and they seldom cause problems with raid boss quests.  On know of other servers this is more of an issue but not on Kain.

The economy is hard but then lets face it.  Lineage 1 was worse and the grind in Lineage 1 makes the grind in Lineage 2 look like WoW!!  Lineage 1 is the worse grind I have ever played.

But you know, the NCSoft staff knows their stuff.  It is now over 2 years since L2's release and ppl still love it.  People leave WoW all the time.

If you don't make L2 what it isn't, you will not be disappointed.  If you do, well then nothing will make you happy with it.

There is no reason for limited Content.

The main reason why I quit L2 retail was not because I hated the PvP in the game. It's still one of the best PvP games out at the moment.

I quit because I was doing the same thing over, constantly. To get a level meant me farming (the same spot generaly) for 8-10 hours. During all of this time I would also generaly lose money! Or I would come up fairly even.

The game just doesn't have enough content to warrent it's grind. It's grind would be fine, if there was more to do. I love the PvP in the game, but the fact that i'd have to go through at least 5-6 months of solid grinding (read: not having fun) to get to a fun part just isn't me.
