Congrats to yall at Simutronics on selling your Hero Engine to Bioware! Of all the developers that has always been one of the ones i respected the most. From Planescape Torment, Fallout, Baldurs Gate and so many others recently they realy are a great team. Picking your engine is a awesome bit of publicity!

As you can probably guess we're very excited about this bit of news. It's going to be very interesting seeing how everything plays out from here on.

Congratulations, Simu! I think this is a great step forward for the company and the upcoming game. As Techleo mentioned it would be time to change the PR. So it would be very nice to see new informations about the lore or even a new forum. Bioware is a well-known and powerful company, so I guess you can be proud of your work.
Instead my greatest dream will be that Hero's Journey include a German Roleplayserver. That would be really fantastic! Interest is rising here and we're tired as many of the posters here to see dull designed games and designers who probably don't know what RPG means in MMORPG.

Now I can't wait to hear what Bioware is going to do with it. (Although, wouldn't a Star Wars game using the HeroEngine be sweet? )

With news like this I am amazed the hype for HJ is only 6.9

My expectation is that Bioware will develop their own intellectual property. This maximises profits for them as they dont have to pay licensing or royalties for the I.P
It also means they dont have rabid fans second guessing them and foaming at the mouth over every design decision they make.
Also I think Bioware have enough brand recognition (like blizzard did) and reputation of making great RPG's to pull in a huge number of players.
Some companies need a well known I.P to give them the numbers to make a mmorpg successful, or cover their dismal reputation. And some even with a great I.P can produce a flop.
Anyway - to simutronics - well done. Can I ask is the engine licensed or sold? I guess what I want to know is can Bioware modify the engine now, or will they get you to add any extra features they think would be useful?
I'm fairly certain Bioware is free to modify to their heart's content. All licensed game engines that I am aware of allow you to modify them to suit your own needs.

From my understanding there are 2 forms of licensing. One in which everything but the core code of the engine can be modified by the licensee and one where the licensee can alter the core code. The second license provides no support by Simu should it break in any way, whereas the first one is supported. Nelson over at Stratics wrote up a good article on the engine and it's licenses.

Cracking good news, Gromit!
Congratulations Simutronics!
Now I will have to pay for two MMOGs at one time - something I previously refused to do.
As my wife and wallet curse you for your digital and marketing cleverness, my heart rejoices in the sinful pleasures that await me and others like me!
Yeah, You guys rock... in fact I am not touching a single mmporg game until this one comes out....
My belief is that if I get enough work done before it comes out I can spend enough time on it when it comes out... almost considering it as a holiday lol.
Well done on selling the engine, it obviously backs the fact that Simutronics rocks which i feel so strongly about.
I just wish your company was public so that I could have bought some shares in your company earlier on... I think come 2007 they would be worht a fair amount!
Good luck adn take care, I look forward to the finished product!

It is really exciting to see that Simutronics is finnally getting the ball rolling again. This first license should be tough at the start though, but worth it in the end. They now need to hire multiple people for support, bugs, etc. Hopefully this wont delay the HJ production, but speed it up.
Great news, and hopefully they can land a few more deals to help speed up their revenue.
