I came back, but it just didn't last.

Hi Everyone,

WOW used to be a quite fun game for me, up until 60 where it was hard to raid, required alot of time and a lack of content beyond raiding/pvping/bgs. In fact, when I first stated playing, I thought WOW would be the one for me long term. It was just so fun back then, I wish I had that feeling back again. So, I decided to give the game a break, for over half a year...letting my characters have max rested exp and so forth.

Then, with some RL friends, we decided to reactivate our accounts again. I even went back to the start, back to basics, creating a Warlock. This, to me, is where WOW shines. The leveling with people, and the urge to get even slighty better gear is a huge motivational drive.

Unfortunately, after like one week, after taking my time, I realised that everything was the same, and that even though it was a long time since I had being back to the newbie areas again, I just felt completely bored. I don't know why there's something missing, but there is and trying to reach beyond level 30 was like a chore. Could it be the simplicity of the combat system, the lack of challenge and "mature decision-making processes" needed in fighting and content? I'm not sure, really, shame because WOW is a good game, especially for those that don't really want to dwell to deep into traditional RPG type games and/or are new to MMORPGs.

I've cancelled my account as it is time to move on. I still don't know why even coming back, WOW just quickly turned me off. My advice is to enjoy the game and make it fun, I know alot of people that still play that just turned into mean people in the game and do nothing but complain. I don't know why these people don't move on, WOW is not a chore, but has an addiction to it like a double-edged sword.

  • WoW is like a being a teenager and dating a teenager.  Its alot of fun at first.   Then when you look back a few years later it all looks different and the thought of dating someone who acts like teenager is unpleasant.

The thrill is goooooone, baby, the thrill is gone....

I pretty much agree with this post. I just recently quit WoW, the 4-hour raids that took place almost every day sucked hard. After playing it for a while, I realized that it almost required no skill whatsoever. I played a Mortal Strike warrior, and I realized that all I did was push a button and watch 4 big numbers show up on my screen.

you never know... they could make some personnel changes, get priorities changed and actually make the game fun for the majority of folks who aren't really digging the non stop addition of raids....

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Warcraft III consumed me for a very long time. Needless to say, I got WoW right at release and played for 6 months. It was the first MMORPG that I played extensively and it was an absolute blast for about 5 of those 6 months. Once I hit 60 and the honor system/BGs came in, I quickly became bored. The game for me up until that point was one of exploration, story and PVP. Once you hit 60 you had a tough decision to make:

    A) You reroll and start over
    B) You start raiding for hours upon hours with your current guild
    C) You quit your current guild and raid for hours upon hours with a new guild
    D) You wait in long queues to PVP in the battlegrounds

I abhor raiding, and grinding for items and farming. Up until WoW's "end-game" I was just a casual player logging on for a couple of hours a day and questing and exploring with my friends. The problem is that the "end-game" doesn't allow you to do that anymore. What was once a game for the casual gamer became a grinder's paradise as soon as that purple bar filled up for the last time. I thought to myself, "Self, I enjoy PVP, maybe I can just play Battlegrounds and run around contested zones." The queues to get into BGs and, what I would consider to be, rudimentary gameplay completely killed that last flicker of hope in me. These were supposed to be epic battles in a massive war and here I am running around with a flag? It just didn't seem right.

I recently decided to resubscribe for a month just to see how everything's changed. I figured that time would make the game fun again. Mend the wounds, so to speak. Surely, more quests and content would be added and I could once again explore the lore of a series I had so previously loved. I couldn't believe it though, the game is even worse now than it was then. It used to be that going into contested areas was absolutely pulse-pounding. One minute you'd be completing a quest and the next you had to fend off a rogue bent on your destruction. I logged on and found the world to be very sparsely filled. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE is either raiding the latest instance, or playing Capture The Flag. No longer does player skill have the outcome it once did in combat. Now, whoever has spent the most time in the newest, mind-numbing raid collecting Epics is the victor. I just don't understand how a game with literally millions of subscribers hasn't added any meaningful content to the game in all of this time. They just keep adding new items, equipment, and raids to sate the players for another few months.

With the upcoming expansion I forsee even worse things in store for WoW. The magic is gone and I wonder if it was even there to begin with or if I was just enamored by the theatrics of it all.
