I have a friend with a MAC machine. I know you can get Everquest for MAC. But I was wondering if anyone could tell me if you could get the expansions too?
Hate to tell ya, but it looks like the Mac server is gone...

I was going by This page cause I couldn't remember how the Mac server was named... I'd go with neschria's answer

But say... Mac users can't play on progression servers?
Mac EQ has its own server, and they can't play on any other servers.
It's sort of unfortunate, IMO. A lot of the time, people want to play MMORPGs with people they know, and segregating Mac users from PC users is probably the reason EQ for Mac didn't catch on terribly well.

Hi there. I am just posting to clear up what seems to be a common misconception. The Mac server Al'Kabor is alive and quite healthy. In fact, it may be one of the best kept secrets in the EQverse. I have played on it since the Beta and here's how it is:
In some ways, it is great.
1) Our server pop is not to large. There is almost no spawn contention. There is a pretty even stratification of guild progression, with the top guild on the verge of busting into Sol Ro/elementals. Because the server pop is both small and quite insulated from the rest of you guys, we don't get transferes in and out to other servers. Which means we all know who everyone is, and people have settled into a mature and quite helpful community. The people who come to EQMac are often surprised at how welcoming and helpful the community is. Also, the people who come to Al'Kabor want to play EQ. We don't get many people who stumble across the game by accident. Its no longer sold at retail. Its a free download from SOE.
2) The economy is intact. There is no plat farming. You can't buy a toon (easily). The bazaar works as intended.
3) Server firsts abound. The Sleeper still sleeps, Sol Ro is untrammeled territory. As there is no twink elemental gear at the top end, you have to work through progression the way it was meant to be. With spells/gear appropriate for the content. This is the progression server as it was meant to be. It has been since we started in 2004. It still is today (though you can be power leveled/twinked through about Kunark pretty quickly now). My magelo (883339) pretty much represents the cutting edge of gear on the server (look carefully, you'll find a primal weapon--start now and get your own!).
4) New (Intel based) Macs run windows natively, as well as PCs do. So with a Mac, you can access Al'Kabor for the nostalgia/authentic EQ experience and also log into your PC toon with the same all access pass.
In some ways, however, its less than perfect.
1) the server pop is smallish. Probably not more than 400 at any one time, and ussually closer to 200 at peaks. Getting more than 50 in a guild to log on at once is not trivial. This has slowed progression alot. WoW took its toll too. There is a small but significant influx of new players which roughly offsets the attrition rate.
2) We stop at PoTimeB. There is no content beyond that. There likely wont be either (see point 3 below) .But starting today, you would still have 2-3 years of enjoyment, and noone is elemental yet, so as yet this is not an iisue. But next year at this time, I may be done with MacEQ, and may try to transfer my toon to a PCEQ server. Currently, Sony wont allow transfers either to or from Al'Kabor. I hope that changes.
3) The server content is static, and Sony seems to have no inclination to further update us. Our code forked and was frozen just before LoY/LDoN. This is a shame. I guess the server population is not large enough to make this a viable option for them. Granted. But this is no ones fault but Sony. They did a terrible job or marketing this product, and for much of the time the game was not available for sale at all. It had very limited distribution and almost no mindset (hell, most of you didn't even know Al'Kabor existed, and this is an EQ forum!). We have very limited GM/technical support. We can't access the EQ fora on the Station website. etc. Basically, Sony wishes we didn't exist. We are like the island of misfit toys, as someone recently put it.
So there ya go. Here we are. If you want to check it out, EQmac.com is the place to start. If you have a mac, it costs nothing to try. The game is a free download and there are one month passess available to play for free.
