Is this game still very populated?
Thinking of getting into it but my friend who plays on a private server, says its not worth the P2P b/c the game is dead. Is this true? Game looks very exciting and would be me 3rd mmo After FF11 and WoW.
P.S.
He also tells me to wait for Archlord b/c it will be just like this game. Whats your opinions about that?

Starter towns there is like 5 people but once you hit like level 15-20, come to Gludin and there will be like 20-30..
Giran has like 200 people there and Dion has like 100.
There are also tons running around fighting in catacombs, necroplis, and other places... Don't worry, you will see tons of people.

those are cities, and yes the game is very populated. there is healthy politics on all servers. log into the l2 forums and just browse through the server forums and you'll see what I mean

you'll see constant debates and conflicts between large alliances and clans. and dont let people scare you from the real servers saying you have to be level 60+ to PvP. Hell, I participated in a castle seige just this past weekend on a low level 35 toon.
besides, private servers are bugged all to hell and they are so hacked up its not even like playing the real game
as for archlord, its new, the elves look like a cross breed between a jack rabbit and something else that sucks.. it wont compare to L2 by a long shot. they may have similiarities but remember, Lineage is the godfather of PvP games

Most private servers you can hit top level incredibly fast. Also, they are FILLED to the brim with pure idiots that not only are afraid of PvP on a 25x server, but are just plain stupid as well.
IMO, play retail. The first time you step into giran you will be amazed, it's freakin loaded with players.
ps: I would recomend playing on Bartz. It has probaly the most rerolls, and is probaly one of the largest servers. However, if you are european i'd recomend Teon (the euro server).
Only good thing is that it gave me previous experience so I could do things more efficiently.

Agreed. It's ridden with bots (even moreso than other servers, KAIN even has less LOL).

I did think of moving to a different server from Erica but i have too much gear and adena to lose out on, and i dont fancy starting from scratch again.. getting to A grade was bad enough the first time round lol

I would guess there are probally 500 or so merchant shops that are AFK too at any given time.
Sooo, about 1200 live actual players running around this seamless world. And because it is seamless (no instances) that is more than enough. Before lvl 30 or so you probally won't see many people, maybe just a few half naked dwarves and characters with weird names. When you get into your 60's (which will take you a little while) there will be people running everywhere! And yes, I mean people, not farmers...there will be farmers, but I really think at these lvls there are more people.
So dead? No, I wouldn't say that at all.
Bartz and Teon are the most populated. Teon is the European Server, although you can play there if you really wanna.
I play on Kain, and it is pretty populated. But I will tell you something, the Kain community and drama is very "odd". LOL, but I like it most of the time.

Bartz is not bad and pretty populated (the most populated in Teon but it is euro). I play Kain and it is usually the second most populated. However, Bartz is a much more friendly server. Kain is a pretty aggressive server will lots of pvp.
it is going down my friend, i remember a year ago, the subscribers are around 2 m. now it is below 1.5 m.

So its going down. And where are these players going???? The only place is freakin WoW and that noob game doesnt count. C5 is almost out and the player population will pick up.
