Free F.E.A.R Mulitplayer game!!!

Sierra Entertainment today announced that the multiplayer component from the award winning PC title F.E.A.R.™ (First Encounter Assault Recon), has been renamed F.E.A.R. Combat, and will be made available to the public as a free download on Thursday August 17th, 2006.

I think this game is sort of ment to be like the free version of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

Currently Playing: Metal Gear Online, Call of Duty 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Oblivion. (Taking a break from MMO's)

    finally, i can stop playing warrock. Fear is awesome, i couldt make it through the single player though, game had so much trouble loading with ati cards, hope they fixed that.

    I was thinking expansion pack, but yeah similar idea. This sort of thing happens all the time when sequels are comming and stuff. I already have fear retail, but it'll be nice to play with some friends.

    It's a good thing, what they're doing. I think that the original game didn't have a large online fanbase, maybe even not a medium one, thus why giving us a free multiplayer version. Gotta love' em, not to mention this will probably make people interested in the upcoming expansion too, when they try the free MP out.

    I couldnt get through the single player campaign either, but for other reasons

    It's not like F.E.A.R. didn't sell. The multiplayer was terrible experience. Not sure how much cheering you will do after you play it. A Basic F.E.A.R. server was spamming grenades and jumpkicks which instantly kill you. The game needed more multiplayer balance than it needs more people to spam grenades.

    Thats cool for anyone that doesn't have the retail! I actually enjoy nooblets that spam kicks...easy pickens.  For new players they can be troublesome though!

    Oddly enough, I hade graphical problems and I was playing with an Nvidia. Upon loading new areas sometimes everything but the hud and your gun would be black, and it would run like absolute crap?

    Nvidia FX 5600

    I could never get F.E.A.R to run on my PC at 1024x728 (with all setting lowered to minimums).   That is the lowest resolution i'm willing to run at game at.  If it I can't get it to run at least semi-smooth at that resolution.  I don't bother with it.  So not going to bother with the free multiplayer of it.

    With a FX5600 your obviously not going to be able to run a game of FEAR's graphic quality. I originally had a 5200, and I had to play with everything off, resolution at 640x480 and with pixel doubling on (which basically halves the resolution).

    I'd be surprised if you can properly run most games post-Half-Life 2 with that card.

    Aahahaha, I have a 5200 & didnt know you could run Fear at all with it.
    Do you have any screenshots of what it looked like with ultra low settings? (So I can decide if I should even bother to download free-multiplayer version).

    These were all taken on my current card, but with the settings how I had them when I was playing it on my old card. (although I may have had shadows up 1 notch.) Ran fast in this mode.

    I included comparisons, just so people don't get the wrong idea about FEAR's graphics :




    References were resized, so they probably don't look as good as the actual game anyway.

    I bought this game the first day it came out. It is a really awsome game! It is great that they are offering this game for free F.E.A.R Multiplayer. Now me and my friends are going to be playing this alot. (my friends never bought the game, so I am going to own them ::::24::) I am looking foward to the new F.E.A.R Expansion.
