To think a fun game like that died because of EA's fear of the mighty Star Wars...

to all that could have been... cheers.

It died because it's content past lvl 30 was poor...it died because people leveled up way too quickly and ran out of things to do.

I'm confused.  Are you talking about Earth and Beyond or the NGE?

    Earth and Beyond

Though now that I think about it I see the irony in your statement as the exact same things could be said about the NGE

I did play it though, it was fun while it lasted.

Space was pretty fun and running into people out there was pretty cool, kind of ahead of its time I think.

EVE takes the same concept to a whole new level.

Erm... E&B was a boring game past about level 50... excruciatingly boring.  FAR worse than EVE ever was.

Why are we talking about E&B in a SWG forum anyway?

Oh... and EA didn't cancel E&B because of SWG.... they canned it because it never got more than 37k players.  It was losing money and they didn't have the patience to let it grow slowly the way EVE did.

There is two stories, thats one of them but the other is the fact that they indeed did not wish to compete with SWG... SWG was a factor in EnB dying... make no mistake...

Why i bring this up? idk, im bored... was thinking about how cool a game it was ... and was thinking how bad of a game this is (pre-cu... NGE or WHAT EVER)

E&B died because Westwood Studios was disbanded by EA.

If you would even believe the amount of content and improvements that Westwood had in store for E&B, you would drop dead. They had such plans, all cut short by EA's slashing.

Then when EA grew tired of it... they pulled the plug.

I'd say it had as much unrealized potential that SWG had... just SWG is more tragic because it is a printing-money property to use.

I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

Wow... Earth and Beyond and Motor City online, I wouldn't be very happy if I were a UO player.
