Can't speak for the game, not played it. I've read alot of the posts, ignored the bulk of what people have said, as its obviously just 'whine' matierial.
The game looks both unfinished and shows alot of promise graphics wise, it does look like its still in beta looking at the official and some unofficial screenshots.
The 'idea' behind the crafting is just garbage. put x item in slot, x item in another slot and make said item x times and after a preset amount of times you can make the item. C'mon this is tech used in game 20 years ago. DnL actually comes across as a game made by 5 people..
Seeing mmorpgs current 3.5 score isn't surprising. What is surprising is the amount of people disappointed... Definately seems to be a great many people looking for pvp orientated gameplay, much more now than previous mmo's.
So.. i'd say the bulk of the screens look nice.. in an Arty kind of way. But overall first impressions... Hahahahhaaaa!!
I can't believe someone or several someones actually paid for this.
Life is about Living, Sleep is about Dreaming, Games are about Strategy!
but after a year without any realy big changes (appart from more server crashes) my hope was lost fast. the idea was great, just the team behind it that sucked. i know people would kill me for saying this, but give what they made to the Blizzard WoW team and a great game would have been born
lack of comunication from dev team. (language is not an excuse)
broken promiss futures
AD in forums and GM's in game.
dnl should have had private forums with a small team to deal with it... not 50 or more diferent moderatores (AD) some of them kids.
Devs should come to these forums and read the players concerns, not waiting for that forum moderatores to inform them... i know very important things that forum moderatores never told to devs.
GM's in game and the events. the events are a joke, why not make only global events for everyone in english. i'm not english is not my mother languange, but omfg everyone knows a bit and for the ones that don't know just ask help to a friend to translate. Last stupid thing done by GM'S was giving to some players master recipes for craft and uber weapons. how a game can succed when some of GM's are players and help only their friends? Blame AD here too because this is AD job, and i bet devs not aware of this too.
In game you can insult anyone without getting a warning or be banned.
Craft system not completed
many quests not working, and the ones that work give very crap fxp or sxp.
some skills are broken still.
forts and holdings not deteorating.
housing not implemented
no way for crafters to sell their stuff
landscape graphics are amazing though you need a good comp... char graphics need alot of work.
to save this game Devs need to start fix r the basic things like:
Improve the group hunting fxp.
Improve the quests Fxp and sxp and fix them.
Fix the forts and holdings.
Finish the craft.
Open all kingdoms and introduce some kind of teleport in game, there is alot of transports but not enough
Game need an auction house or something like that.
Mobs need to drop treasure not only stuff for craft.
Get ride of AD and all GM's in game, make new private forums (CLEAN THE HOUSE) Get professional people not a bunch of amateurs.
(Note: Yes, I am a sucker that paid for the game - I had teh cash and a friend at work never STFU about it and eventually drew me in - after the preorder, I never put any more money into the game).
The first time I managed to get airborn on a dragon I thought "Wowa! This is sweet, so much potential." This is where they failed imo. The game only had a massive world, that was all. The world was buggy, hard to do anything in and after ten minutes of flying around on the dragon you realize this is pretty much all you can do. Infact, if I wanted to fly around and look at lights/forests/mountains on the ground I would buy a flight simulator. Ultimately, I went against my best judgement and became an optimist about a small-time game company and hoped that they could penetrate the market with a great game. Obviously, they failed.
When it comes right down to it there are two things that would have gone a long way for the company. Firstly, they should have been straight forward with the fan base and constanly updated them both good and bad information. Second, and probably most important, they should have had a much larger beta test, this would have forced them to see the reality of it - the game needed a lot of work. Mind you, I honestly don't know if a large beta test would have mattered because of the work that needed to be done probably still out weighed the time they had to fix it (by far!). Personally I learnt a good lesson from this game and in the future I will surely stick to companies that I know and love (Mythic ) and only "gamble" on other games with better information and more extensive research.
RIP DnL, may your idea reappear in a well built game - because that game will surely be the game of games.
I had such high hopes for this game and followed it closely during development. It really make me sad to see to mess they made of this game and all the promises they have broken. To add insult to injury the customer service is almost non-existant and if you by any chance get a hold of a customer-rep they don't have any answers at all.
I totally agree with to original poster and i really hope Farlan will put this game out of its misery and refund all paying customers.
We all know that thats never going to happen. Farlan will keep running this game as long as they can, but in doing so they burn them selfs forever in the gaming world.
Would you pay money to play another Farlan game? I know I wouldn't.
And NOW they want you to BUY the game and ALPHA/BETA test it for an additional 3 months -- when in fact they have had 7 years to develop it!!! When in fact their release was a flat out failure. When in fact they have been called out in so many lies and deceptions. They STILL want you to BUY the game and believe that a PROJECT has reached its moment of SERENITY and everyone is happy and serene with the state of the game. A total abyssmal failure that they want YOU to BUY and help them test further for the next 3 MONTHS.
DNL failed, failed miserably. Nobody cares about their newest gimmick. Even the feeding tubes have holes in them . Ventilator bag has a tiny rip. The IV keeps falling out. Even the nurses are ugly and sweaty.
