If Planetside is an MMO then so is Chrome Hounds. I gotta say I didn't think this game was gonna be all that great, but I absolutely love the Necroimus War.
All three nations go at it. You have to take territories linked others in order to make an offensive towards one of the other country's capitals. You gain exp for whatever Role Type you take into the battle. You have to pay for battle damages and your country has incentives to fight in certain places. Your country's defense budget fluxuates depending on which president or monarch is in office, how many people donate to the war effort, how much territory you control, and how many people are fighting for your nation.
Free play is to sate all the Halo jockeys that can't be bothered with strategy. If you try it out, stay away from Free play, there's no strategy going on there, just a bunch of cheesers staking heavy artillery on a front line build and bull rushing. It's awesome when those guys ty to take that crap into the War cause they get trounced.
The Necroimus War, which you have to find a squad to really experience, is just freakin awesome.
And the best part... no monthly fee.
So if you're tired of all the mindless grinding and dumb ass, pointless timesinks... grab a copy of Chrome Hounds, it rocks.

I would definetly try it if I had a 360. I love mechs
Who knows... maybe sometime in the future...
It isnt the best game for the 360. It is a cheap rip off of Armored Core accept with better graphics and such. In my oppinion, its not worth $60, maybe $40 or even $30. You want the best game for the 360, online wise, you would have to buy GRAW.
You've got to be brain dead or something. I hated "GRAW". Granted, GRAW is the best looking game for the 360, but that's it. It ends there. The game plays like shit. I hate the way the game plays. The multiplayer is very limited and shallow.
Where as Chrome Hounds actually has a point to fighting. The battles are deep and intense. For instance you have to capture COMBAS (Big towers that open up a communication bubble) to be able to talk to your squad, but only if they are in the NA(Which is what the bubble of communication is called). By linking up COMBAS you can gain a wide area of communication with your team mates. One RT that you can play as is a Commander which carries around an array that enables an NA around them in a certain radius AND allows them to see all enemy activity inside the NA.
You can win a battle 3 ways. Destroy all enemies, destroy the enemy base, or capture more COMBAS than the enemy before time expires. Depending on how many people you face you and wether or not you win/lose, you gain/lose occupation points. You can see how much of a presence your Nation has in the area by how many occupation points you have which is represented by your nations color on a bar. When you win you have more of your color showing, when you lose you have less. Once your color gets all the way filled you occupy that territory and can move on to attack an adjacent territory.
And in answer to your Armored Core rip off comment, Chrome Hounds is made by the same people. That's like saying Starcraft is a Warcraft rip off, or WoW is a Warcraft rip off. GRAW is the WoW of the 360, repetitive and REALLY over rated.
And to answer the person that asked what I usually play as, it depends on how many people I'm going into battle with and what they are using. I have 2 Commander set ups saved, a Sniper set up, a Soldier set up, and a Soldier/Heavy Gunner set up. I switch between them.
I've got 3 people total in my squad and it's kinda lame because I want to take part in bigger battles. I'm aligned with Morskoj and my GT is Zynj.
GT is Octavar1um if you wanna add me to play later on once I get used to the controls and the like.
Chromehounds is #1 on my "To-Buy" list of currently released 360 games. The singleplayer is a shit sandwich, but the game shines like no other on XBOX Live. I generally don't like mech games, but the strategy and depth that this game has is so high that I just love it.
However, don't even bother with it if you don't have XBOX Live. The singleplayer is horrific.
Schutzbar - Human Warrior - Windrunner Alliance - World of Warcraft
Nihilanth - Kerra Paladin - Blackburrow - EverQuest II
XBL Gamertag - Eagle15GT
I would finish the single player campaign and go for an S rank in all the missions. You get Hound parts for every mission you complete and then you get additional parts for each S rank.
I have a squad and we're allied with Morskoj. We currently have 6 members, but we haven't had all 6 on at the same time. We had alot of fun tonight doing 4 man missions.
The squad's name is Spider Dragoons. My GT is Zynj. Send a message or PM me here if you want to join. There's no pressure to play any certain RT, we'll adjust our strategy to fit what we have. When I logged Morskoj had 54.5% of the map, Terrakia has the rest, and the Sal Kars are all refugees fleeing to either Terrakia or Morskoj squads. There was a small Sal Kar resistance this morning, but they got wiped out again lol. Poor bastards.
I love chrome hounds, playing it now BUT its not an mmofps as it has no clear character development in the form of skills or levels.

Note: PlayNC will refuse to allow you access to your account if you forget your password and can't provide a scanned image of the product key for the first product you purchased..... LOL
Yes it does. Most my RTs are at lvl 32. I have 2 that are lvl 34 my Commander and my Heavy Gunner.
It shows the lvl ranges of all your RTs after every battle in the Neroimus War. You get medals when you get to the highest lvl of each RT. Not sure what that is yet, and no you don't get any special skills or anything when you lvl up, so it doesn't make that much of a difference, but the point is that there are lvls AND ranks.
Is this related to the battletech universe? Or is it "borrowing" from mechwarrior?

The main reason would be that it is not massive at all. Planetside has large battles which can include 100s of players. 4v4 is not even close. I haven't played Chromehounds myself, so I can't judge the depth of the character customization and growth though. It sounds a little like Battletech 3025 though, and that was really fun.
One game I always wanted to try though was Steel Battallion. But that pricetag was killer.
