Yea i will try it first too then we will see if they say it is treu that the 1 that spend more money doen't have all the advantage ! But i think it is a good idea hopefully it will be worked out well ... look at steam every1 hated at first but now you don't hear people complain only those freaking little kids that don't even know what they are talking about !
I think its a great idea as well. Specially since i only have to pay 10 + tax a month to play. If paying 40 bucks a month makes you a top pvper go for it. As long as i can get on have some fun i'll be fine.
That said, if you have seen ( or haven't seen check it out its the first picture on this sites screen shots tab ) the screen shots for the monthly points shop, you can see what you can buy. I didn't see anything that really would help PvP a lot, Just stuff that helps you lvl and farm.
The relatively cheap subscription catches peoples eye, and makes it seem like its great, but wait and see . . . PayPlus will cause imbalance in PvP and shift the balance towards those players who pay up. Its a great marketing ploy, and a smart scheme for Codemaster to make lots of money. It is great for the players who do not wish to be competitive with the PvP system, but for everyone who wants to be as best as they can in the game, it'll require extra dough.
In World of Warcraft and Everquest II, players need the right gear to be the best. In Guild Wars, players need skill and tactics to be the best. In Archlord, you'll need to bring your wallet to be the best.
The payment system doesn't really bother me, since people with more money always have an advantage over "cheap" gamers by buying money from IGE and sites like that. Maybe this system will slow down this problem with Archlord. Anyway CM said that during beta they will test and tweak this system so that won't be a big advantage for who pays the 40$ over the people with the 9$ fee.

You couldn't be more wrong. not your usual level, Tymora.
I think the PlayPLUS system is a good way for casual players to catch up. remember, you can buy consumable enhancements. those can't be stacked and are on a timer. if you want to be any good in the game, your going to have to play. and it doesn't matter if you pay 40$ or 10$, as even those who pay 10$ will get credits to buy items.
Please don't mix up the PlayPLUS system with a cash shop, there is a huge diffrence.

You're buying into their scheme. Yes everyone gets credits, but if you pay more, you get more . . . ALOT more (somewhere around 6X more, I think). It states that Squire subscriptions (the basic one) starts off with 1,500 credits. That sounds really nice, but then look at the 2 higher options. They give 3,400 and 8,000 credits, respectively. This is just for the monthly option. Once you go for the 3 or 6 month, credits increase by a lot (60,000 credits for the Lord subscription for 6 months). Its a marketing ploy that sells people all the time. The Squire subscription may as well start at zero, and substract 1,500 from the 2 higher ones. Then you'll see that there is going to be balance issues, especially if the credits can buy advantages that directly effect gameplay.
Do you think that the hardcore players who are playing around the clock are going to skip on the Lord package? It's been discussed at the Archlord forums, and agreed by many that everyone who is serious about the game is going to purchase the Lord or Knight subscription option, gaining extra credits. So, how is a casual player going to catch up, or stay relatively even?
What PayPlus is essentially doing is taking out the middle man for example, Gold Buying/Selling sites, and incorporating it into the game, except instead of buyiong Gold, your buying credits to buy items that will give advantages. One advantage you may buy with the credits is an experience multiplier.
So if you think that hardcore players aren't going to pass this up, I think you are wrong. The players who are most dedicated to the game, and who want to be competitive, will go for the Lord or Knight subscription and use all their credits to gain the upper hand.
Its been said that the advantages will not directly effect gameplay, but I don't believe that. I am waiting for Beta to find out exactly how much of an advantage can be gained, but until then, PayPlus looks to be a poor choice of payment for this competitive PvP mmo.
If you think you can buy great items and other neat stuff, then you are missing the point of the system. I have been in a lot of conversations with codemasters, and the system will reward those who are dedicated to the game over the ones with the big wallet.
sure the hardcore players can (and probably will) buy the lord package. but what you get are merely potions and other things like that that a knight or even a squire subscribtion can get as well. the non-stacking and timer does the trick here.
if you want to be among the best in the game, you have to play. and it really doesn't matter if you buy a lord or a squire subscribtion.
your also wrong about Codemasters removing the middle man. Its not the same as ebaying or buying gold from IGE. When people buy gold from sites like IGE, they buy gold to buy great ingame weapons and armor. this is not the case with the PlayPLUS system.
as you said, I recommend you take a look ingame and see it yourself. Codemasters are not some small company that have no idea what they are doing.
I think PlayPlus is also a very good idea. But it will help the dedicated players imo.
If you have 2 people playing 12 hours a day, one on the Lord package and one on the Squire package, both of them get lets say 1 experience multiplier potion each, they use them and then the timer runs out, the guy on the squire package cant afford anymore becasue he has used all of his credits but the guy on the Lord package can afford to buy another 2 (just random figures here) so therefore he will have doulbe the experience for alot longer.
Yes it does give an advantage to the people who are dedicated (play long hours) and can afford the Lord package as they will be able to use the doulbe exp, or extra attack power potions for the full month of there game time, where as a guy on the squire package (still playing long hours) will only be able to afford enough to maybe supply him for a week of his monthly time.
So really if you ar playing alot and paying for the Lord package you are gaining an advantage and not only becasue you play long hours, also becasue you can buy more of the enhancer potions.
Still though, i see no problem with it, the monthly fee is cheap and im not desperate to be the Archlord (that will be the 24/7 Lord subscriber gamers) I just want to have fun and personally im going to go with the Knight package at first, just whilst i see how good the game is.
Im just really hoping that Archlord will kick ass and pull its weight even with all the awesome looking games coming out in 2007, would be a shame if there wasnt a place for Archlord.

If it turns out that you're right about the credits being only for insignificant items, then I am wondering who in their right minds would pay the extra money for a Lord or Knight subscription? I know there are players with lots of cash that would like some nice little benefits that they can afford, but I think there are going to be a lot of players who have paid the extra money for the Lord/Knight option wondering just what it is they are getting.
If what you say turns out to be true about Payplus, I think the majority of players will not go for the higher subscriptions. If all it takes to be competitive is to play the game, as it should be, then why pay extra? If the credits wont benefit them in a noticable way, they will pay $9.99/month. If Payplus fails, this is how I'd like to see it go down, not the other way I suspect it will turn out, with a major imbalance to PvP.

Many seem to be going Knight, which is the average one. It wont affect pvp anyways, and it shouldn't. People just cry, bitch and moan because it's something they are not used too. The western world does not like change and often take it the wrong way ( in general mind you ) this rule applies here as well. It's different, so we hate it without giving it a chance. Seems silly to me.
So I would just suggest instead of nit-picking it as much as you can, try the bloody thing out. Reading it can only tell you so much. But acting using it will show wether or not it is right for you.
I do intend to try it if I get into the Beta, but I won't buy the game based on what I know about PayPlus. I try almost all mmorpgs, based on my interest in it, and what I read about it. According to what I've read about PayPlus, it leads me to believe that it will make the game worse. That's only my opinion as of right now. Actually, there are quite a few who would agree with me on the Archlord forums. But most of us have agreed that we have to see it in action before we really know whether it will work or not.
Before I go out and purchase a mmo to play, I do nit-pick. There are many of them and only so much time to play them, so you can bet I want to choose the right one for me. So far, according to what I've posted here and on the official boards, Archlord doesn't look like it'll be a mmo I would play. I'm hoping to get into Beta to make sure about it.
Also, without getting into a comparison between peoples preferences and mmo players from different parts of the world, I'll just say that I praised Codemasters in quite a few posts for coming up with a different payment option. I've posted here a few times about how I think there should be more options for us now that mmos are changing. So it's not the change that is making me speak out against PayPlus, it is the fundamental flaws in the system that I can see. Whether or not these flaws actually come to light in the game is yet to be seen.
Playplus should burn in hell. Stands against what everything fair PvP and gaming is about. Even if it doesnt affect PvP all that much (i clicked on the screenies and nothing came up) it still does give them an advantage. And even a slight unfair advantage can tip the scales in a fight.
It will NOT balance out. This will quickly turn into an elitist game, period.

you like the idea because your sh*t...any half decent player would think this idea is a scam....little johnny will be happy because now he can get his parents to pay for the lord subscription so that he can be leet and act like an asshole....without having to put any skill into the game.
And judgemental as well, of something they have never tried before. They think it's crap, because it's different. What a pity. I think those kind of people, shouldn't be allowed to breed. ^^

or maybe they actually have done some research and found out that the playplus system only gives temporary enhancements, the same that even a 10$ subscriber can buy, something you clearly didn't.

yes you can pay 10 bucks a month but you wont be able to compete with people who subscribe to the lord package...the producer of the game stated that two players..one who buys the lord packages and another who buys the knight package even though they my be equal in player skill...the player who pays for the lord packages will have the advantage..to me that is bull shit....what chance have you got then being a squire against someone who has a lord subscribtion.
