Quick question for you, yes you!

Ok, so maybe not YOU, unless YOU are looking forward to playing LoTR:O. Oh, you are? Ok, then YOU.

Question:
There are many MMO's currently available and several more to be released in the future. What makes you want to play Lord of the Rings Online above all of the other MMO's that are out or are coming out soon?

A simple, non-flaming, response would be appreciated.

My reason for asking this is the more I learn about the game, the less impressed I am. Please don't address this in your response, this is just background so you know why I'm asking. There aren't any secret motives and I'm not a LoTR:O-hater.. I just don't understand what makes it the one game to play (was going to work in a pun there.. decided not to go there).

so...

    Heya.
Well, im not sure but...Maybe the most of those (including me) are like fans of LOTR. Like, loving the movies and books.

And why i choose/want to play LOTRO is:
I clearly like LOTR movies/films...And ofc, everytime you see the movie...its like, i want to be there to, in those kind of natures. And exploring around there in Middle-earth.
Theres several things i like about the game...like the incredible nature within the game. Its like hawt
Oh, I even wanna fight against those evul guys "Forces of Sauron" Shadows of Angmar...

It also has like an unique gameplay, such as classes...They are different from other games, tho its like a game from movies/books with their own kind of class thingy =/ or something ^^

The thing is, i like games you've heard of before, like Warcraft ->WoW   Star Wars movies -> SWG
    And now LOTR ->LOTRO
I hope you know what i meen =)

I think most of the guys like this game...
Well, this is what i kinda came up with ^^

Only reason im going to even try it is because im a fan of the movie/books. When  i downloaded LOTR:O videos im not impressed at all. It actually looks very boring...slow combat, and same old UI/skill system. Although it is only in alpha and much is still debated to change.  I think this game will be a hit with people who like to roleplay and PvE very casualy.  but this game will fail with the hardcore crowd as i can tell thier will be a lack of End-Game content.

Im using this game as a timefiller intil Warhammer: age of reckoning is released.

I got no faith in Turbine, all there games, and ive tried them all are of low quality and lack innovation. actually that is to be said about alot of games in the market or in process of being made. They lack innovation and new features, honestly WAR is the only game doing something different. if u look at vanguard, LOTRO and a few other lowkey titles they arnt pulling themselves aside and declaring, This is what we are doing different This is what are game will have that these games wont... its sad to see but nobody wants to take a chance on a new system or style its all about cookiecutter moneymakers. or playing it "safe". hence why everygame you goto the store to buy and try feels so similuar to the previous game.

I loved the movies and books and i'm looking forward to a great game.  I also think the game looks great as far as I can tell.  I'm just ready for a game I can stick with longer than 2 weeks.  And I hope this is it!

I'm looking forward to this game for a few reasons.

    1. This is really the game that opened my eyes to the MMO world. It was the first game I found out about (back in February of 2004) in this genre.
    2. I have been playing MMOs for a few years now, but not to the hardcore extent of some people, so to me it doesn't really matter if this game introduces totally new gameplay ideas or just has some new takes on old ones.
    3. I joined a guild and grew to be one of its leaders. I really love the guild and all the people in it, I would play the game just to play with them.
    4. I hear a lot of people that don't have faith in Turbine, but from what I've seen of the devs they seem to be a good team. People say that they have never had a successful game, but from what I understand AC was a success, AC2 was a failure, and DDO was exactly the game they meant to develop (maybe not the game most people wanted).
    5. The community is really great and in an MMO that is the single most important thing. Plus I've just had a lot of fun on the forums waiting for the game.

    Few reason
    1. I need a new game to play.
    2. Every time i watch the movie I wish I was there and this game is gonna take me there.
    3. Just wanna get my hands on one of them ORCS and when i do there going down.
    4. Can't wait to explore the middle earth it's going to be a great adventure.

I think for me, as with many others, it's the idea of getting to play in the world of Middle-Earth, with it's incredibly rich lore and the pure potential of how great a game this could be...well could have been, the one thing that is keeping me from goign all fanboi on it is the fact that Turbine is in control of it.
This is a company who, I swear, has no clue how to design a game.
Of course this may be more of a result that instead of seeding themselves in the minds of the game-playing public with great in-house, non-liscensed titles, we get a company whose complete lack of originality leads them to jsut buy lucrative liscenses.

Anyways, while the world of Middle-Earth would provide for a truly astounding MMO experience the fact that Turbine is handling it makes me hold grave reservations as to how well it will actually do. People are already leaving DDO in droves as it is.

I for one look forward to playing a game I can involve myself into the storyline.  Many games I play have poorly writen scripts and do little to make me feel into the storyline.  I'm already well aware of the history of Middle-Earth, so I have no problem letting myself get sucked into the game.

If all I wanted to do was pwn some noobs I'd just go play some CS:source or bf2.

I have to admit that I really like the LOTR setting. I have been looking for a game with this topic for a long time - I joined the Middle earth online game site in 2004. I have always said that the books deliver enough information to create a artifical world - so I will see what the devs come up with.

I'm getting less impressed by the day so I know how you feel. It feels like a clone of all the other games.

I think that's where some of the dev's are getting in to trouble. They see that Formula X works for Game Y, so they're like "oh, we'll do that too!"
It's true that every game out there has borrowed from someone elses cookie jar, but you always get worried when things start looking like: (Lucarative Liscense) slapped on to (Successful Game Structure).

But for LotRO, it's really going to have to be a wait and see. The problem is, it seems the LotR property has been really hit and miss with games, and sadly more miss than hit.

I am looking forward to this game for a number of reasons as well.

    1. Have gotten in a guild for it and met a number of good people through the forums that I am looking forward to spending time with in game.

    2. Huge Tolkien and Middle earth fan

    3. Used to play SWG, love it till SOE killed it. Played WOW, loved it till I got to 60 and my playstyle didn't fit anymore. Played Guild WArs, COH/COV and loved them till they got a bit repetitive and now only play on occasion.  Play still Saga of Ryzom and EQ2 and enjoy them.
