It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
1. There surely can't be anymore room to improve that acient engine? So in future it'll look totally dated.
2. DAOC had the worst character movement/controls/interface ever! Felt like you were controlling a brick and making the world move round you :S Took ages to turn around and just felt soo weird compared to newer games.
Will this game suffer the same?

Well everything is gonna look outdated in the "fuuuutuuuureeee" but from the screenshots it looks really nice and hopefully it will have alot of detail and not humongous open spaces.
I dont know about the controls though since i havent played daoc. From what I have seen in gameplay videos the looking around and moving seemed smooth though.
Daoc didnt have its own engine, it only uses the Gamebryo Engine, as games like Firaxis Games' Sid Meier's Civilization IV and Bethesda's The Elder Scrools IV: Oblivion which were also made using this engine.
Of course it will use the last version of the engine, and if they wanted they could make the game with even better graphics than Oblivion, but it wont happen as MMOs use more computer resources than any other games, so they need to keep good performance.
I hope you didn't think they would use the exact model engine they used in doac. slogh is right. Mythic will be using hte same engine from the doac game but it will be the latest model,.Actually Slogh's post says it all. Don't worry about the engine. Have faith.
Not to mention the screens and in-game footage are from a pre-alpha build. When we have some video or screens from the lastest build (which if I remember correctly is being shown soon somewhere) then I think we'll be a little closer to truly seeing the nature of this beast.
You can use the same engine as a game, and completely revamp it for better graphics, control, movement, lighting, effects, etc. etc. You're just building on old code, so it doesn't take as long to have a working product. It's a very smart move. So the game won't "look" dated, since they're not using the old graphics, just the old engine. These are two very different things.

I live to fight, and fight to live.
The only thing I can think of in regards to this is that yeah, if they are using the DAoC Engine it would scare me away at first thought but think of it like this.
DAoC when it was built was probably coded a certain way with different asset management, and systems, over time they have to improve on the existing game systems with each subsequent release.
Now with WAR, they have an engine they can use, but with different systems alltogether for an entirely new game, not mired in systems that were written for DAoC. So you have a dev team experienced with a toolset they know how to use and are creating an entirely different game, with all new systems, more efficient ways of handling assets to take full advantage of the engine.
I would say sit and wait to check out more before writing it off completely.

People like you make me sick, learn something about computers.
An engine has many parts, each part can be improved (greatly, depending on the engine and how it's used) or even made complety new.
So quit your whining because you know nothing, let the devs do their job they what they are doing.
I hate people who know nothing but always have to spread panic.
