Smedley's blog posts with clues of SOE's future mmorpgs...

I saw the chris interview and said if u look closely smedley gives clues at what their 2 new mmorpgs that havnt been announced yet. hmm....

One last thing:  In the near future, you’re going to read about another big development here at SOE. We recently acquired a game developer that is going to take us into a new space entirely. We’re really excited about it and I think when you hear what it’s about and see what they’re working on you’ll agree!

I'm sure no matter what it is they will find a way to ruin it.

    Don't worry.

SOE has yet to create a game that didn't suck.

I'm sure their next title will suck as bad as everything else they've done.

It best not be Star Trek , Since I know that SOE is not writing the Code ,that game may work.

My guess is either Star Trek, or Stargate.

Bash SoE all you want, but they have money.  And money is what is required to develop a good mmorpg.  Insane amounts of money.  If these obscure companies want to make their game to their vision, then they need good backing.  SoE can provide that for sure.

Yup.  I can't think of one game they've done that I actually would pay for.

Between Star Trek and Stargate my money would be on Stargate, it's in the early stages of development and could probably make a chunk of money by going to SOE.

Honestly though I wouldn't be surprised to hear it be BioWare even though BioWare and their new MMORPG will do much better without SOE.

If money is all it takes then why are SWG and EQ2 the suck?

I think Perpetual (Makers of Star Trek Online & God and Heroes) is working along side with SOE.  I don't think SOE has their hands in the goods (yet), but I am thinking they are only going to publish it...?

I'm not saying money is ALL it takes.  It's just that money is required.  As for SWG and EQ2, that's debatable.  In the shadow of the 6 million subscriber base WoW, all games "appear" to pale in comparison.

I dabbled in EQ2 a bit, and if I could get a PC that ran it smoothly, I'd probably be all over it.  But constant struggles with framerate and having to turn the graphics down so far that it looks worse than a PS1 game, kill the game for me.

As for SWG, I played it on release, and made it to master artisan before quitting.  I was severely dissapointed in the game mechanics.  Combat in my opinion sucked.  The total HAM bar thing drove me nuts.  Either you had to spam one specific skill to continue doing damage to one area, or you just hoped to get lucky and take him out before he took you out.  Also, the incentive to combat wasn't there for me at all.  Looting bone and hides, was all there was.  And after crafting ENDLESSLY for many many hours just to skill up, I lost interest.  Once I was able to become a droid engineer, and make some combat drones (forgot what they were called), and realized how insanely overpowered they were, there wasn't any point.  I did love the resource scanning, and harvesters though.  I haven't played it since, even though it's gone through a ton of changes.

And as far as EQ1 is concerned, I loved every bit of it.  I do feel however, that the game was better Pre-Luclin.  As new games came out, and my time restraints grew, I eventually lost interest in EQ, as my guild left me behind in level.  But there are STILL those obsessive compulsives that play EQ religiously.

Companies will make mistakes all the time.  SoE is one such company.  Believe me, they want to make the BEST game they can, and the one that will make YOU the most happy.  Because in doing so, will bring in more money for them.  It's all about the money.  And hopefully we all get what we want.  We get a good game, and SoE gets it's money.

What makes a mmorpg good?  Well, our tastes change over time.  EQ1 was great when it came out, and stayed that way for years.  But people expect change, and growth in technology with each new game.  It's normal.  All we can do is wait, and hope that the next games will be what we want.  I'm hoping Vanguard can do just that....for me.

No, there's Julio Torres and he loves himself ofcourse.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

I think you all have forgotten that SOE just recently purchased an Online Trading Card Company Worlds Apart Productions. This company is undoubtedly what Smedley is referring to when he says "recently acquired game developer" and the "new space entirely" is an online trading card game(s).
