You are one of the very first to get a glimpse of a reborn Ultima Online. We won't be releasing more details for a bit, but we do want to let you know a few things:
1. We are completely re-building the Ultima Online client with new graphics and a new easier-to-use interface.
2. It is an in-place upgrade. That means you will be able to keep your characters, items, houses and everything else you've earned over the past nine years.
3. We are committed to maintaining extremely low system specs. They will be higher than what UO launched with in 1997, but will still be far lower than almost any other MMORPG on the market.
4. The launch will happen in 2007.
5. There are many, many more surprises in store.
The Ultima Online development team has been working hard for the past eight months to make real the vision of a thriving, vibrant Ultima Online. We are proud to finally let you in on our secret. Look for a full announcement soon.
I know you probably have lots of questions. Before this year ends, we will answer just about all of them, so keep watching www.uo.com.

Yes ginally no more neon and to all you peeps that say UO is not what is was anymore. Ever thought about playing the game still the way you like it? There are loads of peeps who have made guilds with pre this pre that rules and if everyone stick to it, you still can have that gamestyle. People playing are making the game, so if you say UO is not this or not that anymore, than look at yourself first what maybe you have changed as well. A

erm.....UOR killed Ultima. AOS just shit on the corpse...

If they were to go that route they'd be better off just making a sequel. And we all know that EA is completely incapable of that kind of project No, as long as it's still the same engine all they can do is upgrade it's graphics capabilities. The underlying database won't tie into a true 3D client... it's not hooked for that. to do that kind of major revamp would be more work than just writing an entirely new game.

Unfortunately, Elnator, that is the problem. No matter how much you spruce up the old engine as far as color and pixels, when new people go to try it out, they still see an old, old engine. And they leave without even getting to know the game itself. Sad but true. Even Shadowbane, with a 3D engine, would be totally dead now if they hadn't made it free. Because people look at it's tired graphics and think "Why the hell would I pay for this when there are better games now and future games such as Darkfall and AoC right around the corner.".
The point I'm making is that if EA doesn't update UO to the modern mmo standards, this little artistic touch-up isn't going to mean crap when the servers come down in another year for lack of players/income. Because even the die-hard UO fans that are left are going to start walking away in droves the minute a new game with similar gameplay and better graphics comes along. And that time, with all the new games around the corner, is upon you.
If that graphics where that important the game would have died out a long time ago. Graphics mean little to me, and obviously many other players. Graphics do not make the game, story line, and overall content and playability make the game. One great example is in fact UO. Although there is little, very little keeping me playing, graphics is one thing that is last on my list of reasons for quiting.
Ever wonder how games have gotten as far as they have today? Because of the joy of playing. If not for games like Zork (Text Adventure), the older Ultima's, and the people who loved, and still love them we would not have the games that we have today because there would be no interest.
Sadly most gamers of today would stop playing games altogether if all of a sudden games had crappy graphics. Sad but true.

erm.....UOR killed Ultima. AOS just shit on the corpse... wanna know whats really wild? I'm in bored game mode and for some reason I fired up ICQ for the first time in 4 years and I have PK Ghost on my ICQ list from my UO days. It would appear that at one time or another you played on Atlantic and we had some type of business transaction.
Most people who love UO play in old "2D" mode anyway. This won't make UO "better" for the old schoolers that either can't play in "3D" (crappy computer) or refuse to. It must be a cheap upgrade or they would not bother with it. Nobody in-game complained that the graphics were an issue since if you are still playing UO graphics are of no concern.
If they spent serious time and money and made a new modern MMO with the name Ultima Online in it just about everyone here and all over the world would flock to it. Add a modern worthwhile PvP system to it and it's game over for WOW, EQ2 etc.
I joined AoS, and still loved the game. Will people stop complaining? It's still a good game. And I happen to really like my paladin. Sorry that games can never stay the exact same that they are when they first come out. Sometimes those changes will be for the better, sometimes for the worse. But we just ride it out, because we love UO. Remember. Just 'cause your woman gained a little weight doesn't mean you're not going to sleep with her anymore, just means you'll complain a bit more behind her back.
Kidding. Dear gosh, if my girlfriend thought I was serious on that quote, she'd have my throat.
Cant say im to impressed with the screenshots. But it might look alot better in game. But I like other's stand with the fact that if they dont take the AOS crap out of UO I wont be coming back. Its just not the same game, not even close.

Only one that has any promise of being anything like UO is Darkfall... and while I'm watching it with tremendous interest I'm also heavily skeptical that they'll pull it off.
People have been saying "it'll be dead next year" since EQ came out. Still has over 120k subscribers today.... With another 80k or so playing on the various free shards (and that's just the ones I know of).
