FFXI

I have never played any Final Fantasy games, ever.  I have no clue as to what they are about or anything.  I am reading alot about Final Fantasy XI and how it is getting very good reviews and in general the attitude towards the game is good.  I hear there are over 1 million players world wide.  The reason I am posting is, I want some opinions and guidance as to what you all think I should do:

I currently play Star Wars Galaxies and I am still having fun, but I want something else to satisfy me  while I wait for the big releases.  I played Dark Age of Camelot before SWG, and I had a great time, although I didn't do much RvR.  Before that I played EQ for a while, and I still look back on that time as a very fun experience, I often get the urge to try it again.  I bought Horizons and tried it for the 30 day trial.  I played alot and I kinda liked it, but now I lost interest and will be canceling my account tomorrow.  So I am looking for another MMORPG to keep me occupied until Everquest II or World of Warcraft, (or with any luck, Dark and Light).  I like the types of MMORPG's that let you roleplay and really get into your character, with a rich background and quest system, and a player economy where crafters are important.  I like great graphics that immerse you in the game, and I really like a game that'll keep me hooked for hours at a time.  I read so many threads here at this website and I have come to respect many of the posts and what people have to say (of course I have to shuffle out the garbage from time to time).  So now that you know my background in MMORPGs, sort of, please let me know what you think would be a wise choice as to what I should play next.  Please let me know your feeling about the games I mentioned or any other MMORPGs out there that may have your attention, I know there are so many coming, it is a great time to be a MMORPG'er!  Thanks.

I would really have to recommend Anarchy Online.

Anarchy Online www.anarchyonline.com has everything you mentioned and more.  It kept me occupied for a year before I kind of got burnt out on playing it all the time image

I think you would really like it based on the qualities youre looking for.

I've played both. I liked both too.

It's a matter of taste. If you prefer scifi you can't do wrong with AO.

If you like fantasy and Storylinequests then FF XI is the way to go.

FF XI has the better graphics and is totally bugfree.

AO got an expansion (Shadowlands) that upped the graphics (i didn't play SL) i think and the bugs got ironed out mostly too since it's on the market for a long time allready.

I'd say download the AO trial (there's no FF XI trial). It's free and you can see if you like the game.

I've played Anarchy Online, and I hated it so much that I couldn't bring myself to even mention that I played it.  It was by far the worst MMORPG I have ever had the displeasure of trying.  I played for a few months in the beginning, when nothing worked.  I hear it is good now, but I can't go back, not after that disaster.  That's for your input, though!

Give Final Fantasy XI a try. It's really worth it. A friend and I were both playing this one MMORPG for 2 years, none stop. It ate up a lot of our times and we tried to leave many times due to poor support from Staff and bad treatment to their players. We just couldn't find a game that got us hooked.

However we both tried Final Fantasy XI and it hooked us. It's amazing. Give it  a try. You'd be surprised how much better it is than Star Wars Galaxies. You won't regret giving it a try, and you don't need to be a Final Fantasy fan to enjoy the game. Good luck.

i played FFXI for 30 days then left the game.

I had many reasons which can be seen on the FFXI forums under the thread "Loved FFXI but had to leave" or some title to that effect

Anarchy was one of the worst MMORPGS? HAHAH!!

    Its a great one!
But the Game Director who made the Shadowlands Expansion kinda ruined the Sci-Fi feal of Anarchy online :(

The new Game Director is moving the game to the right direction. Adding more of a Sci-fi feal back into the game.

I think you played the wrong game my friend.  Anarchy Online was and still is a very great mmorpg.  Are you sure you didnt pick up SWG thinking it was Anarchy online?

As I said in my earlier post, I played AO when it was first released in it's poor condition.  Anarchy Online did not work when it was released.  It was garbage.  It may be the best game in the world today according to the players now, but I was completely turned off to it back when I played because it was incomplete.  I can expect MMORPGs to be a work in progress and I am patient, heck, I still play SWG, but AO was such a disaster that I cannot go back and try it, even when they E-mail me every month saying they will reactive my account for a free week to try it again.  Doesn't that tell you something about how they released the game?  So to answer your question, En1Gma, no I have not played the same Anarchy Online as you are playing, I played the crappy version that didn't work.  As for Star Wars Galaxies, at least they are fixing it and it has been a whole lot more playable than AO ever was at release.  Everyone has their own favorites and opinions, but the broken state of AO in the beginning is not opinion, it is just plain fact.

Is this a joke? AO is pretty aweful when compared to other MMORPG's. I really don't know why people think AO is actually a good game, is it that those that do have never played another decent MMORPG to compare it to? That's really the only thing I can think of honestly.

FFXI is a great solid game. No bugs. Good storyline, that will keep you occupied for quite some time.

Only problem i find with it is that there isn't too much freedom to the game as SWG has. (no real character customization, player housing, guild housing, player cities... and so fourth).

Well I thought FFXI was a boring game nowhere in the league of EQ or DAoC.

Sure it has nice graphics(though i think SWG graphics is better) but look at all the games coming out in this year and you will know that nearly each new mmorpg has better graphics then the one's from last year.

Just like AO had best graphics in 2001 ,AC2 in 2002,SWG in 2003.

Gameplay wise I found that FFXI had nothing new to offer and did not progress in the any form and in some instances was worse.

But liking a mmorpg is based on taste as always. You can give it a try for a little bit and see if you like it and it might hold you till EQ2 or WoW comes out.

You can also go try AC2 for free and see what you think about it.I found AC2 actually exciting for 1 or 2 months but after that real downhill game(kind of what happened to me in SWG).

For me FFXI was fun for a week no more.

I am getting some good feedback from some players who have tried FFXI, and that was the point of my post.  Nothing has gotten hijacked . . .  I like hearing other peoples opinions, even when I may not agree with them.  So keep the posts coming about FFXI and any other games you think is worth it to play until the release of EQ2 and WoW.  By the way, both games are supposed to come out on the same day as of right now.  I doubt they will, in fact, I really think both are still a long, long ways off.  At least let's all hope so in the case if EQ2.  It still hasn't even started Beta for all we know.  WoW looks good besides the cartoonish graphics.  I loved playing the RTS games and I loved Diablo, but I need realistic graphics in a MMORPG to keep me immersed in the gameworld.  THat's not to say I won't give WoW a try, I think the gameplay could be something really good.  I am looking forward to EQ2 alittle bit more, I think.
