Asheron's Call, worth a try?

Having looked around for an MMORPG to play with no luck, I've been reading up on Asheron's Call. Would any of you who've played it recently recommend it, or do populations problems and gameplay changes make it no longer worth it?

I havn't played AC recently, but i use to play it all the time a few years ago. I can tell you that it is still my favorite mmorpg to date, and I've tried pretty much all of them. There wasn't one complaint i really had back when I was into it. THe community was great, the fighting was enjoyable, and the monthly events were a blast.

From what I've heard about it recently, the population is really killing the game. Again, I havn't played it in a couple of years, so don't quote me. And, obviously, the graphics of the game arn't up to par with more recent games.

I would still give it a try though. AC is such a great game, i think it deserves at least a trial.

No char customization, had ugly graphics from the start, big boring world, crappy environments.......yeah go ahead it's not my job to stop people from wasting their time

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

    No character customization?

That post is a hunk of bs. AC probably has one of the better char customization out there, becuase it is a skill based system, meaning there are no classes. I would have reccomended playing this game two years ago, but sadly AC has seen its life. It used to be one of the best MMO's out there and is still number 1 on my list. It was a genius game, too bad AC2 failed.

If anyone wants to try AC, it's only 10 bucks (before Sept 30th) to buy online and you get 30 days with it.

From August Letter to the Players
"Before we get into all of the new and updated things in the August
event we would like to announce that we are now offering a special
discount on the purchase of Asheron's Call: Throne of Destiny. When you
purchase AC: ToD from the Turbine store, simply enter the code
ACSTORE10 in to the box marked promo code on the purchase page. This
will give you $10 off of the retail price of $19.99. That means for a
limited time everyone can purchase Throne of Destiny for $9.99. This is
just one of the many steps we are taking to keep new and returning
players coming in to Dereth. Please feel free to share this code with
your friends and family, so they can take advantage of this great offer
and join us in Dereth. This code is a limited time offer and will
    expire September 30th 2006."

AC was my first love, so it's no wonder why I keep coming back to it. Everyone has their own first MMORPG experience, and they generally revert back to whatever it was that first captivated them...AC is mine.
