  I paid for a beta key for WoW and I am a firm believer it is totally worth it. It really helps everyone (players, the site offering the keys, and the gaming company) out. From a players point of view, you pay a fraction of what the game costs in order to help fix it ontop of actually playing the game. It's the best way to see what the game will be like at launch and might save you the 50 bucks of buying a poor game. I also love having that little head start of knowledge and blowing past most players in the begining ! But, I haven't mentioned that I wouldn't just pay for any and all betas, only games I am really planning on playing based on released date.

  If there is an offer that 100% garantees you access to beta I would consider it. The problem is that when then start giving out beta-keys the offerer states that they only got "so many" beta keys and that you actually have to wait till further - an unspecified date - before you actually get it. Happened to me with the Conputer games magazine and vanguard beta....
  
  EDIT: Betas are a good way of trying out a game before investing $50... as allready stated above.

  Woa, buying a key that doesn't promise 100% beta access? Ooof. I have personally never have a problem with that, but I can see if that does exist that it something to definitely read and watch out for. A lot of buzz about this beta key being able to be bought, would definitely read the fine print on the bottom of the page before giving in that credit card number!

  If you buy the RF mag you will recive a beta key, but it doesn't say in wich phase of the beta you're going to get in. It can be for the last week before the open beta, but you'll get the key as Satine has stated

  Thats what I read too but the problem is it will only "guaranty" you an spot in the euro-beta and as you stated correctly - they didn't specify when. So you might pay for it now and get the beta-access in 1 year. By then you probably got accepted anyhow.
  
  If I pay for the key then I want in at a specified date. Otherwise its like buying a product without knowing if you'll ever get it.
