Hard to know what your looking for from the two games you listed. Lineage 2 is class based, loot based and Ryzom is a skill system with player crafted equipment. They are nearly polar opposites in game design.
As a ex long standing member of the Lin2 community ,you would be better off here as I have played SoR as well. SoR is easy on the new player and a great community to back you up. Lin2 you will pay the price ( Literally with your credit card) to make it in game .
Well, Lineage would be a good game but I put my l2 on hold till they will deal with their bot problem. Well, that and casual gameplay of ryzom seems to a lot more fun. Lineage 2 is basically a *huge* grind, that takes a stop from time to time so you can hav some fun, and though Ryzom is alo grind based to be honest, the gameplay is a lot more complex, and even farming mobs can be fun (for example, you need to kill the whole group of mobs for it to respawn, can be tricky when part it lays under a area patrolled by 5m high bugs). Also Ryzom community is the bes out there (imho), but these fellows are just to nice.. I’m used to having a fair bunch of ***holes that I need to hate, while ryzom most ppl are just too nice, once after I got killed and asked on region chat for a reas. a whole team fighted their way to me to resurrect me ^_^
I've tried both and so far I like Ryzom better. Lineage II was all grind and loot-based, whereas Ryzom has a harvesting system and a nicely implemented crafting system (about as good as SWG's) that fuels the game's economy. The two games actually look a lot alike, but that's about as far as it goes. Ryzom is much deeper than Lineage II, both in terms of gameplay and a meaningful backstory.

lol i know how you feel... i came from AO, and on Ryzom when i first had asked in guild chat if a guildie was nearby for a rez, my guildleader ported across atys and speeded to me to get me up And i was like "oh my god, what giant thing do they expect in return?" over the weeks i found that this was nothing special
About the ppl to hate: play long nough, and you might find a few lol but not many. After playing 1 year, my ignore-list consits of 1 entry
L2 or SoR? Depends on what anyone wants, doesn't it?
Warning - opinion and possible sense of irony detected below
If you're looking for constant PvP, for tearing down what others built, for uber gear and loot, for paying at least for two accounts in one game to not be pwned for not (buff)botting like everybody else, for a nice and meaty grind before you can start feeling valuable to others in a MMO, then L2 is propably better for you. *grins mildly insane*
