ac1 is better, you can pick any skills and customized your character with credit points, however, treeskills in ac2 is too rigid and not customizable.
in sept patch, there will be new skills for 45+ levels to be come "hero" class, but still no customization optionals. so ac2 is going to be boring and creatures got "beefed" up defenses. i dont like the way they do "pushing us into group play" and not getting the loots, ninja looters have some way with 3rd party plug-ins to micro open the corpse and steal the loots.
group play is bad when everyone is looking for one rare random drop item.
that why i picked ac1 better with "controlled" lootings.
I have played AC and AC2. I was also in the AC2 Beta.
Send a message to MicroCrap to stop micro-managing Turbine and let Turbine do what they do best. And to stop penny pinching their hundreds of Billions and actually INVEST some real money into Turbine. (50 million should be good enough. It's how much SONY invested into Variant to get EverQuest to where it is today.).
AC2 is a 25% to 50% finnished game. In the Beta test, they forced Beta testers to wait 1 to 2 days before allowing their posts to post in order to "review" them. Pathetic! When I saw that I was in shock and knew something was not good.
They ignored the hardcore AC players who were in AC2 Beta. The players would posts suggestions on how to make AC2 better.
It wasn't until the LAST 3 days of Beta that a customer service rep was hired aka someone to activly communicate with the Beta testers!
AC2 is a flop. It is dead. It cannot be revived EVER. Why? Because it is now too LATE. Newer Tolkien-themed MMORPGs are about to be released. Why spend tons of money investing in a new car that's a lemon when even newer models , for the SAME $$$$, are about to be introduced?
...This is what i think on AC1 AND AC2.... Ok, AC is one of the best games i have ever played if not the best.....everymonth they set up new interesting quests so it never gets boring.... Not only that but the PvP on it is SWEET.... Im a PvP gamer....if your not competing against other players chances are im not playing......(except for CoH) With AC2 the PvP is terible......the fighting styles not that great.....i feel like Microsoft spent to much time make the grapics good

Ah xplororor ... why do you set yourself up like this!
Only 4 points to make regarding this post ...
1. If it really is as bad as you say why did you play the game through Beta, into retail and for the first 7 months of the game being live ...
2. Why do you seem to have enough of a love that you have loads and loads of screencaps on your webbie showing you ENJOYING the game.
3. As things stand now this game is as complete as any player could want. Yes it differs from AC1 which suits some people, but the player numbers on each server are similar to those on AC1 - so if that makes it a flop, so be it.
4. Yes 'newer models' as you call them are due for release soon, but lets look at this ... there have been many new models since AC, but it's still a great game. Also, most of the newish ones that have come out or I have had the chance to Beta test don't cut it ... I include Horizons, SWG and Lineage 2 as examples here. AC2 has a dedicated if smallish following, but the game is better than it ever has been, and lots better than when you left it some 7 or 8 months ago.
If you wish to post, please do not try to RAM your opinions on people, and perhaps what happened 18 months ago in beta testing doesn't matter now. AS it stands AC2 is a good game in it's own right, and I regularly play with a lot of people that were from AC1, and those that have come from most other MMORPG's. You seem to have a passion for flaming AC2, not sure why, perhaps you have a personal grudge after playing it for so long and something upset you ... I wouldn't be suprised if you were banned or something and are trying to get revenge ... /shrug
My take on AC1 vs. AC2 (currently play AC1, beta for AC2 + 1 month)
Graphics: AC2 is great to look at. I swear, at the start, I would just run around and look at stuff.
However, I am also a fan of the way AC1 looks. Call me old fassion, but I am not one for graphics.
Skill System: This, IMO, is where AC1 blows AC2 out of the water. Actually, this is where my love of AC1 comes from. The skill system is very customisable and very cool, while AC2 resembles other games' "cutout" templates.
Plot/Monthly Updates: I didn't play AC2 long enough, but friends tell me that the content is lacking, or, it is compared to AC1. AC1 still gets interesting updates from month to month. Plotwise, I love them both. I actually pay some attension to what goes on in AC2 even though I don't play.
What is there to do: Well, in my AC2 experience, sadly, there wasn't much. I got bored quite quickly.
AC1 on the other hand, has never been boring, but that is probably due to PvP and the great updates IMO.
I figured I would cover a few points about both games, in the end AC2 was not my cup of tea.
HOWEVER,
Turbine has been talking lately of many changes for both games, with many large changes for AC2. Who knows, maybe something they do will just click.

Fair comment. Content was lacking - but since the September 03 update the level cap was raised to 150 from 50, the new island was added and there have been approximately 30 new quests including Epic content for level 50+ (and about the same number if not more for those on their way to Herodom) and loads of incursion type quests too. The issue AC2 had, but seems to have overcome now is that there was a lot of belancing done to the character sets to stop some being overpowered and others being underpowered. Everyone needs to be able to solo, but no-one should ge able to solo group mobs 10 levels above them! This took quite a lot of Dev time and took priority over loads of content being added in the first year. This has changed over the last few months as the balancing has finished and we are just getting loads of content each month.
What is there to do: Well, in my AC2 experience, sadly, there wasn't much. I got bored quite quickly.
It is a shame you got easily bored, but AC2 is very different than AC1 so I understand - if you were expecting AC1 with better graphics you would have been disappointed.
AC1 on the other hand, has never been boring, but that is probably due to PvP and the great updates IMO.
AC1 still rocks and will continue to do so... regarding the updates, practically all updates recently in AC2 have been really content/feature/lore packed, those people playing it will second this I am sure.
I figured I would cover a few points about both games, in the end AC2 was not my cup of tea.
Totally fair comment ... you can probably tell it is mine
HOWEVER,

It seems to have already started ... there seems to be a good population increase at the moment, and when Turbine finally get full control of the franchises we can HOPE to see some type of active marketing. Without a doubt AC or AC2 should appeal to most players in some way manner shape or form - Turbine just need to shout about them both some more.
...Turbine just need to shout about them both some more.
You know what would bring in more players? MASS MEDIA!
Very few companies in the MMORPG industry use Mass Media for one reason or another. in fact I'm pretty sure only Everquest has used commercials or video ads to promote there game.
While I know this kind of advertisement is very expensive, I can't see it not being worth it. The resulting follow of people into the buying market would be incredible and would bring a much more accelerated state of advancement and competition to the industry.

I've played AC one since just after release and it's awsome. Still the best MMORPG out there IMO and I've played many of the popular ones (including EQ, DAoC, Horizons, Shadowbane, and more). AC has one major thing that many MMORPG's don't seem to understand is a very important part of making the games fun. Soloablity, and AC has plenty of soloability. You can take wave after wave of monsters and smack em down no problem. Of course there are monsters that are hard one on one, but not alll of them.
They give you the choice to fight harder monsters woth a lot of xp, or take on hordes of monsters for smaller ammounts of xp, but you get faster kills so the xp is still good. This is the main reason I love AC.

The only real thing AC2 really has over AC1 is the look. Unfortunately that doesn't make a game. It does make for an early draw in players, but not for long.
AC keeps getting better, especially since Turbine took it over from M$. Some changes took some getting used to and just outright accepting that that was how it was going to be. But over all it will continue to be a better game and have a long life.
Funny how we see so many leave for a new game and them come back.

Played both since beta. Stopped AC2 about 2 months into retail, still playing AC1. That should answer your question
AC2 is absolutely gorgeous and mind-numbingly boring.
AC1 is nowhere near as good looking but infinitely more fun to play.
If it helps, here are the 2 most popular skills in AC2.
