Favorite D&D based game of all time

I tried to post this topic on the official DDO boards one time but it got deleted.  So what is everyone's favorite D&D based game.  For me personally the game I had the most fun was a strategy game called Fantasy Empires.   Next would have to be Baldurs Gate and Champions of Krynn just for Nostalagia,I think it was the first computer game I ever owned.

The original Pool of Radiance was mind-blowing at the time. It was just so holy-crap good. I don't think I felt that excitement again until The Temple of Elemental Evil a couple years ago. ToEE used the 3.5 rules, though, so that helped with the newness factor. Doing whirlwind attacks with a reach weapon while surrounded makes for great fun. Too bad PnP DM's never let such untactical situations happen.

I really started having fun in the game when I started Charming Monster everything. Encounters go a lot smoother when you have a few ettins with you.

I bought Planescape Torment because everyone said how good it is. I've had it for years. It made GamePro or someone's Top Ten Games You Probably Haven't Played But Should list. One of these days I probably should play that.

I would say Neverwinter Nights was absolutely incredible, especially if you played in persistent worlds.

I have had Torment for years and never really played it, then I saw the same article at gamespot and thought I should give it another chance, but now have a hard time pulling myself away from other games to do so.

While I don't have a favorite game from the past, the Dungeons and Dragons Tactics game looks cool.. but it's only available on PSP.

    so...

I think I got the most mileage from the original Gold box series which I played on an IBM PS2 with Pool of Radiance being the one I logged the most hours on.  Baldurs Gate, BG II, NWN, Icewind Dale were all excellent as well ( still are)..

Baulders Gate II and NWN hands down.

Such amazing games, such amazing games.

Eye of the Beholder. I like that whole FPS perspective.

Didn't get on with Bladders Gate. Found them to be really boring.

NWN :)  Looking forward to NWN2...

I never really got into Baldur's gate... dunno why... for whatever reason I just never really liked it.

I REALLY need to pick up Oblivion... I keep hearing how good it is.  I keep hoping the price will drop soon ;)  I refuse to pay $50 for a damn game before I can try it.... and I can't find a free trial/demo.

Baldurs Gate Series was my favorite but for the old school it was Pool of Radiance.  NWN was a good game it just missed on the SP experience with the story.  NWN2 however looks like it is going to rock!

#1- Planescape: Torment -  by far the best D&D based game.  Hands down the best.

#2- Balders Gate - all of them.

#3- Dark Sun by SSS i think

#4- Old school Eye of the beholder, Gold Box and SSS games.  I spent millions of hours playing those game.

I already posted my favs but I just wanted to say a few things about Planescape: Torment.

This game has the best story and NPC's of any D&D game.  I still* have the box and CD's for the game.  I recently made copies of the CD's just in case of some disaster.  I always install it on my main gaming system everytime I reformat etc just for the nostalgia.

I'm with the OP, Fantasy Empires rocked!!

I was also a big fan of NWN and anxiously await NWN2. Tried to get back into NWN after quitting WOW but the UI now bothers me .

Currently playing nothing but tossing around the idea of giving DDO a go.

El, just break down and buy Oblivion. I said the same thing you did, would never pay $50 for a game, if I had known, I'd have bought it the first day it hit the shelves. The game is simply amazing. A lot of times I get so lost in it I think it's an MMO. I see someone riding by on a horse and think "Wonder what level he is?" until I realize that I'm playing a single player game. I don't know how they fit all that content, but it does truely feel like it's totally open ended, go anywhere do anything. Believe me bro, it is so worth it.

As far as the D&D games, Gateway to the Savage Frontier and that line was awsome. I loved Baulder's Gate II (BGI had WAY too much space with nothing going on, still a good game), and NWN is great.

Its a little sad that you can say that one of the best mmo's is a single player game.   Hopefully someone takes what Oblivion is and puts it into an mmo.

    Baldur's Gate.

One of the reasons I liked the game was because it seemed very original to me.

Eye of the Beholder was wild, at the end you couldn't even kill that bastard, you had to use a wand to push him into the spikes while your team was dying LOL.

I'm a big fan of the SSI silver box (Dragonlance) series -- Champions of Krynn, Death Knights of Krynn and Dark Queen of Krynn.  I've recently reinstalled them with a sound card/8086 emulator and thoroughly enjoying myself.  Baldur's Gate goes up there as well, then NWN.
