Runescape...
Well, i had a Red Party hat, a very rare item that is worth 200 million gold in the game.
I sold the party hat for 190 million gold. I then sold the gold to a gold selling company.
They paid me $704.00 for all my gold.
It was real, I received the check and I took my family out to Genji ($167 bill). Bought a new paintball gun. And the rest is just money I spend.
My account was banned, but it was worth the $704.
True story.

perhaps, but I could have lost all of it

That's because it's illegal to sell isk/item for RL cash AND there's a legit way to 'buy' Isk in the game, so most people will just use that option. Also because everything gets blown up at some point AND the market being totally playerdriven inflation is very much under control.

help!
my thread has been hijaked by EVE!
How did runescape find out?
and a story like that kind of inspirers me with a plan...but im too deep in GW so...shoo go away.
lol, 1bil ISK sells for over $130 on ebay. lmmfao
700bil ISK is worth $91,000 in which you could EASILY EASLYE EASILY sell that for 10 grand.
If you sell it for any less... be it legal or not you're a complete moron and should be shot.
I'd do just about anything for 10grand plus whoever sold that 700bil ISK could just sell his char with it and bump it up to 15grand easy peasy
A Work in Progress.

How did runescape find out?
I have no idea actually. I guess they were just watching me do the trades with the company character. They said they had evidence, i looked and all they showed me was the report from a GM, saying i was "complete control of the situation" ect. ect.
I tried to appeal the ban with an apology, they denied it.

lol send in another appeal with a picture of you holding the check in a HAHAHA IN YOUR FACE BITCHES!!! pose
Whoever bought it for 130bucks probably turned right around and sold it on eBay laughing all the way to the bank.
That's an 11,500% Profit. People would kill for that.... IRL literally.

I just got this quote from the EvE forum, which seems to confirm the value of the accquired funds:
That's quite a significant piece of the ingame economy he holds in his hands. Wow, what do you do with something like that? I mean, even if we exclude the idea of selling that money directly, and instead using it ingame to effect the economy....that's alot of influence directly at one person's fingertips. He must feel powerful.

700 bil doesn't even remotely show up on the radar. There's enough people having 10+ bil, and they sit on it so it doesn't go back into the economy.
