I thought i'd give Shadowbane a crack (blah blah free and all that) and happily downloaded the client from Fileplanet which includes the expansions up to Throne of Oblivion.
However, I loaded up the game client and the patcher has kicked in. It looks like only a minor update of about 5MB in total. On 3.5MB/s dsl that should only take a few minutes. However it's been going for 14 hours (overnight and part of the day) now and it's only about 70% done. There is progress but it only grabs about 50kb every hour or so.
I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this experience, and if so - is there a way around this?
A couple of points:
1) Firefox is my default browser. Just putting that here because i'm aware that registration requires an IE browser, so wondering if perhaps the patcher client is using Firefox and that's causing issues.
2) My connection is working sweet. I can download other files at top speed if I wish.
3) Also, sorry for asking a tech question here. There doesn't appear to be anywhere suitable on the SB forums to talk about technical issues.
Anyway, if anyone in the community has any ideas then i'd love to hear from you.

The patcher has been going 48 hours now and i'm still at 66 out of 91 parts to update, so I stumped and have to give up. I'd love to try the game out, but that's kind of hard when I can't even launch the game lol.
Rather than delete this post, i'll leave it up in case anyone else encounters the same issues and wants to talk about it here. I've given up on SB though so I won't be back to contribute myself.

Two things I can think of, off the top of my head are, do you have a firewall and did you register your copy of the game yet?
1. A firewall will prevent you from being able to log into the Shadowbane game or receive patches. You have two options to solve this problem
1- Disable the firewall.
2- Try to open the following PORT:
- 3360 for the Patcher
- 5001 for the game server
- 6000 for the login server
2. If this is not the 1st time Shadowbane has been executed, Upon launch of the Game, click on the "Account menu" option followed by the "Create account" button then follow the on-screen instruction.
