So, I tried to try WoW...

...only to find out that the "free month" only happens after you show that you can pay for more months. Great. Can't take the game back now (no one would believe me), I "refuse* to give them my credit card info (had a bad experience with this one, never again), and I didn't buy a game card because I only wanna try the game. So what gives? Does anyone know for sure if you can remove credit card information from an account once it's on there, or am I stuck being forced to go buy a freakin game card just to try the stupid thing?

    1. You won't get charged unless you set it to.  Although I have heard some bad stories, so I suggest that after you sign up and such you make sure its not set to continue charging.

    2. If you're really that bothered about getting credit-card info, there are sites (I don't have links, sadly) where you can get valid credit card numbers with nothing attached, just to sign up.

just use your credit card. the site is well protected, and it will not charge your credit card till the first 30 days are up.

I'd like to point out that this really doesn't help me, as I clearly stated that I would like to avoid doing this if at all possible.

    Just FYI

Every MMO I have played is set up like this...granted I have only played 4 of them...but each required a card to set the account up. Even if you get a buddy key it still asks for the card #.

There have been lots of stories about SOE charging folks behind their backs...haven't heard any about blizzard doing it though....im sure its happened, but I haven't seen any rants about them doing it.

Thanks for the info. Still seems pretty stupid to me, but they have to make money somehow I guess. And, I guess their method is just to prove that each player could pay to play if they wanted to.

And, just a note, I'm not bashing on WoW, I'm just a little upset that I bought the thing and now I can't play it without giving them access to my bank account. Funds are tight on this end, and I can't really go throwing away money. I'd like to make sure that I'm protected while I try and enjoy a game.

You will have to buy a gamecard if you don't want to use your credit card.

I haven't heard of Blizzard charging people for WoW after they canceled.

I dislike having to enter credit cards for trials, that is why I only play MMOs that I can get into a preorder beta with. $5 or $10 is cheap and it saved me from buying the full copy of DDO.

Ya you'll need a gamecard everysingle MMO that I have ever played as requred a card or game card at sign up so I'm not sure why you expected not to need a card or something like that.

why not just immediately cancel the acct after you sign up. you will have your free 30 days and run no risk of forgetting to cancel it and getting charged. they process +6million peoples subscriptions, i think they have more than a few security precautions.

edit: is this your first mmo? as was said, every mmo i've ever played has been setup the same way for "accessing" the free month

Yeah that is what I would say to do, I played WoW for about a month, then quit because I didnt have time to play anymore or the money, then recently I started playing again, Blizzard never charged me after I cancled my subscription

not my first MMO, but my first Pay MMO. Thus, my issues.

And, after waiting 2 days for a reply from Blizzard via e-mail (which is shameful compared to GW tech support) I finally just gave up waiting and used my credit card. I also found an option on the user page to cancel recurring billing. Kinda wish someone had mentioned that to me beforehand, but w/e.

VG, dont worry, the way its setup is as simple as this

    1. u sign up and GIVE them ur credit card info

    2. BEFORE your free 30 days are up, you can simply cancel ur subscription and they wont bill u...if you have a problem with this, just call the customer support and ask them to do it...i havnt tried but they should be able to (if its like some games i've played)

i've tried this and that's all it takes

Remember. Do some research before you ever buy another MMO. Its going to be them same for every game except Guild Wars. Just a tip. Most of the time the box will tell you if you need a valid credit card or time card. Just another tip. ^^

I've only had bad credit card experiences with the Click2Pay bandits that Neocron 2 uses.

Blizzard are pretty good IMO. I don't play any more but I've stopped playing twice and never had any billing problems. Their privacy measures seem pretty tight too from the few times I've had to call them.

This is a HUGE company making HUGE amounts of money who would be HUGELY sued if they ever did anything remotely dodgy. I'd say your credit card details are about as safe with Blizzard as they ever can be.

Dont give them your card, they will take 5$ more, to buy themselves something to drink, thats for sure! They will surely rip you off, and then they know noone will believe you,

lol, wtf? are you stupid or something? just type it in and cancel right after, it wont charge you, ¬_¬ thought such people died out already... lol
