I'll reserve judgement for when I can actually play the game.
How long has this game been in production, and how many times has the released been pushed back? This game if it ever is released will suck especially now that Turbine has the rights. I know beta is starting soon, but I feel like the game was annouced like 3 or 4 years ago, and don't think it will have been worth the wait.
No longer a production cycle than most large-scale MMOGs.

Looks like you're a WoW fan too since you have 81 hours of gameplay. lol

81 hours of wow is hardly a fan.
And dude said he played the game for the past day.. implying he is in beta, And if turbine can fail with Dungeons and dragons, the biggest rpg in the world, then im sure htey can flop lord of the rings.

Turbine managed to utterly destroy the father of RPG -> D&D franchise
They have their hands on grandaddy of Fantasy franchise ... this is grim
Whats next ? Turbine licencing Star Wars ?

on a sidenote, welcome back zaxtor, been a while since I read a post of yours
I dont think I'd play an HPO game. Though it would probably be funny.
You could gather magical ingredients to upgrade your broom and win the Quidditch World Cup lol
I don''t really know when Humankind will die out but i''m guessing about 6 years before WOW.

This game is just barely in early Alpha. If you ARE in the Alpha, then you're breaking the NDA just telling us you are, I believe.
And frankly, if you're judging a game by the first Alpha release, then you have no experience with MMORPGs worth noting, and your comments are somewhat lacking in validity.

"Didn't the guy say he played lotr beta for the past day ?"
That would appear to be what they said.
However, since the game is in Alpha 3 testing... not sure how they would be in "beta".
Alpha's are pretty rough point in game development/testing. Making a judgement based on any alpha build is rather lame to be honest.
Oh I wouldn't know anything about the alpha either /whistles innocently that's my disclaimer.
More to the point as i said...
Basing judgement of any game on an alpha build is rather pre-mature. UI, Quest and graphics aren't even close to final at that stage.
Actually you can tell alot about games from their BETAs(from what people say lotr alpha is the equivelant of any normal mmorpgs beta stage). It is a great misconception and an outright lie to say you can't judge a game by its BETA. Firstly you get the feel of what the devs are trying to accomplish, which way they swing so to speak. It tells volumes of what the game will end up like. Secondly you see their response and how they deal with problems. If a company is slow to fix things in BETA don't get your hopes up for release, trust this old and crust beta tester.
When I hear "It's just BETA" I get teh shivers down my spine. I heard that phrase so many time from loyal fanbois in so many games gone bad that it's a joke to me. People will say it to you like a week before release, because they still hold on to that hope
There's plenty of games that you played BETA and after some time you had a good idea if it's going to be good or not. Shadowbane comes to mind, and SWG right off the top of my head. DaoC for example was a very solid BETA, but lacked content, as was the case in release.
All that said. LoTR is in the first stage of BETA atm, so most of the content is not there, and the scope of things you can do is and should be limited as all the testing is done on a micro level piece by piece. Basically , unless lotr is further along than I know, servers are up only when the devs are and they basically tell you what to do and how . This may get very boring for people who were expecting a play test. Just some speculation.

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

Actually.... Turbine is one of the few companies I think could have actually screwed it up worse

Errrr LOTRO, formerly MEO, has been on the table since 1998.... that's pretty friggen long.
Totally different development company, entirely new game. In fits of what can only be called mild insanity, the old producer, Sierra, cancelled production of MEO not once - but twice! - in 1999 and 2001. Turbine picked up the license a few years later, and started from scratch on a new game using the LotR license.
Nothing in common with the old game except that it's based in Tolkien's world.

Actually Sierra had the license taken away from them by Vivendi and they gave it to Turbine instead.
But yes, it's been cancelled twice. And, frankly, Sierra's vision... both times... was better than Turbine's is now.
Bottom line: It's been in one stage of development or another for 8 friggen years. This is just the latest iteration.

Unless the beta proves to be as abysmal as DnD did of course.
I haven't played the game, but I predict it to be just as good as D&D. If it's the same devs who made D&D then we'll see the hobbits, dwarves, goblins, and elves look just like the humans.
In D&D everybody looked like a human.
