Wow! I have to say I was very excited to read all the positive, glowing comments about the Alpha phase of testing for LOTRO! I really hope I get to test the game out in Beta. Ahh! I am just way too excited! LOL
Excerpt:
- Writing is excellent so far, as are the characterizations. The model options are fantastic - giving you a very *real* seeming and very individual character.
- I am not particularly impressionable, and generally a tough and jaded critic. And what can I say except - initial reactions - YOU'VE DONE IT! IT LOOKS FANTASTIC!
- I must take this time to thank the Devs, QA's, and other staff for making Tolkiens Books come alive as never before. Being able to walk in the world I once read about as a young boy has blown me away.
- If I was on the Dev Team for this game I'd be popping the champagne right about now. &I had so much fun playing today I can't hardly sleep!!!
- Guardians are awesome. ... I ran around with my hobbit guardian until the wee hours, and loved every minute of it. #1 favorite thing is the combat skills.
- I played a Hobbit Minstrel up to level 16 in Alpha 1 and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a good soloing class and a nice mix of damage and support skills.

Comments
A couple of those comments sound similar to what my friend in alpha2 was saying. He picked out two things as especially good, and both of those are among the things highlighted in the "alpha impressions" comments. I wont say which ones, but based on that, I can at least confirm some of those comments.
Obviously a company is going to highlight the good things, and you cant expect them to do otherwise, but so far, so good.
A lot of people say that LotR will be bad because they thought DDO was bad and incomplete. It may turn out that way, who knows, but IMO Turbine was forced to learn a tough lesson about releasing games with insifficient content, and the fact that DDO was released that way makes it LESS likely they will repeat the same mistake with LotR. Because if they mess up LotR, they are done. Finished. If we can see that, you can bet your bottom dollar they see it too, and will do everything they can to avoid that result. People tend to like to be employed rather than unemployed

Very true! So, I am hoping that they have learned their lesson and are making up for DDO with LOTRO.
I can't wait to hear more feedback from the Alpha crew.

I would like to see some of the negative comments made about the game. That is usually how I judge whether or not I would like to give the game a chance.
No offense to the published.
Just my 2cents
I think all we can take from those comments is that the game seems to be running pretty well, considering its only in Alpha testing, and the players seem to be having fun and not having major problems.
Only time will tell if that means the game will be a big success and will keep people playing for many months.
Its sort of like a baseball season. Looking good in yuor first few games is nice, but it doesnt guarantee success later in the year. It just means you are off to a good start, but there is a long way to go.

The best way for me to judge a game is to try it, if it's a trial or bought, reading up on forums can turn you away from something that you are going to like. But offcourse you listen to alot of people and read up on reviews and stuff but don't take it all so very serious ; )
umm yea, why would they put negetive comments on their own corprate site? SO lame
And trust me i'm praying this game will be just OK , i need something to hold me over till Warhammer Online!
I thought it was pretty good that they posted the information on their site they were in the Alpha stage of testing.
I don't know if that is common,(saying we're testing the alpha stage) but I'm sure it made everyone nuts to know more, so they posted some player impressions. It sounds to me like the testers are happy campers.
