Yes, dwarves are nearly extinct. The only ones left where those from Moria and as soon as the Fellowship gets to Moria, they realize the Dwarves were kicked/killed out of there. There weren't much dwarves already and now there's even fewer.
Actually - you are incorrect. Very incorrect. There are the Dwarves of Ered Luin - the Blue Mountains, the Dwarves of Erebor - The Lonely Mountain, the Dwarves of the Iron Hills, as well as the other Dwarves that are not of Durins folk scattered all throughout Middle Earth. The Dwarves of Moria? That was merely an expedition led by Balin from the East. An expedition, nothing more.
Remember, the movies were based off the book. Not vice versa.
You don't need to state the facts that do not come in the book. At this point, i am being childish because i was beaten back and i'm using the post just before yours (the one where he says he is 35 and is reading since he was a child and because of that he couldn't get a girlfriend) to tell you that the game is based on the book and in the book i don't remember seing any legions of dwarves moving around and making some frags. Yes, i'm being a spoiled brat.

It is part of Middle Earth history and of the legendarium, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, and the 10 volumes of the Lost Tales. And no, the dwarves were not even close to extinct. They didn't start becoming "nearly extinct" until the end of the fourth age.
Much of the Information regarding the Dwarves can be found in the above volumes, and the best place to look if you only have The Lord of the Rings, is to look in the Appendices. Most of the information you can find is the book of lost tales however. Trust me, I could pull out all my volumes and go bit by bit the references to the dwarves. No, they weren't running around everywhere, because the book wasn't about Dwarves.
But what about the battle with Azog? My lord, LOTR doesn't even get past the first chapter, and Dwarves are in Bag-End, as well as accompanying Bilbo to Imladris when he leaves at the end of his eleventy first birthday.
And actually, I'm the guy that's 35 (nearly) - and my wife has been compared to Sandra Bullock. Hotter than hot. If you look, that was my post as well.

Well... in DDO beta the "team chat" were called "fellowship" in the User Interface. From what I saw in the LOTRO game trailer, the dwarves are animated just like DDO dwarves.

Never liked Sandra Bullock. And if she is hotter than hot you should really get some coolers for her. (Definitely, i'm being a spoiled brat.)
I think we should end this discussion about the dwarves. You guys are right and i'm just trying to save my back by throwing off any bolts i might have. The thing is: i speak in Berserk mode 95% of the time, which means i proably i'm light-hearted at the moment and i'm not taking you seriously.

so i put that aside, and i think.. well theres r other things to do like: exploring / dungeon crawling / RPing
and then it comes to me, how the hell is this gonna happen?
when 70% will be Elves, and mostly hunters.. with names like Leggolas/Legolass/Legolaz/xLegolasx and the other names from LOTR.
not to mention that Elves r very very few and Dwarves r nearly extinct..
anybody feeling the same way? :
I will agrree that the pvp is going to be very lite compared to what most games are. As for the names, people will not be able to use any names from the books or similar names. So no legolas, XlegolassX, Legolass2000, or aragorn2000, Or any other varients.
Dwarves were not nearly extinct. Nor were the elves very very few. They were just in the books withdrawn. The books is during the time that man is coming into his owne and the elves time is passing. Yes i know all the arguments about how it is not lore appropiate to have thousands of elves, hobbits, and dwarves running around but there are some exceptions for gameplay that need to be made, this is one of them.
So no i would say i don't feel the same way as you do.
I agree. There needs to be some literary licence when making a game in order to make it playable. I am happy to know we won't see a ton of Legolas's running around as well
The general consensus that's forming about LoTRO is that this will draw fans of the Tolkien Lore and the movies (though the game doesn't have license to the movies). It seems likely that there will be a lot of RP going on, which will appeal to some casual users, some not.
I'm definitely gonna play this game! Based on everything I've seen, I think this is going to be an awesome experience. The folks at Turbine are relying heavily on Tolkien Lore to design this game, and while some creative licenses have to be taken in order to have a workable game, these are minimal and not disruptive to gameplay, nor will they distract from the experience, IMO.
Also, in creating Shadows of Angmar the devs are exploring and developing locations and storylines that, though mentioned in the Lore were not the focus of the LoTR trilogy, and so I'll get to see places and things that are new and fresh... I really can't wait!
I like PvP, but it is not a game maker/breaker for me. I have also been waiting for a decent game set in Tolkien's world since computer games became a reality. I will definitely be playing this game, and from all I have read and seen Turbine is going to score with this one.
As far as dwarves being nearly extinct in the books and elves being very few you may want to check your facts there. I'm not going into any lengthy explanation, but there were plenty of both races around in the third age. Enough of them to field armies and fight battles against hordes of orcs.

If this is another DDO I'm gonna puke .....
I just hope they dont ruin this franchise, that'll be 2 major franchise names destroyed by the same company in one year.
