Ok, I never have recieved an e-mail from this person before. I don't know who it is, what they are doing, I'm thinking it's just someone throwing me a hoax. I'm just throwing it out there, not believing it is real.

Just saying it again, NOT believing it is real. Just sharing it. If it IS real, yay. But I don't believe it AT ALL. Don't share it as gospel.

Hi. I am sending you this important leak info about SWG. I can't say who I am because of my employers but I thought you would be a good person to tell this so others could get the info.

The release of the new box in the stores will also coencide with the release of classic servers. You will have to subscribe to Sony's all-access pass to get on the classic servers, and will be considered a bonus to SWG players like the extra character slots are to EQ2 players. It wasn't clear if you'd have to buy the new box too so I can't tell you that part for sure.

Sony won't be supporting the classic servers but it will be the guys from the emulator thing. It is supposed to be their job to add any new content or bug fixes to the game since the NGE game is what Sony is using their developers for. It will be pre-cu based right before they did the cu since it seems that is what the players want. Sony is treating it like their classic EQ server, as a bonus item to SWG players.

I don't know when they plan to release this to the public, probably closer to the box release.

Once again, I think someone's pulling a hoax here. But hey... everyone thought the nge was a hoax. Stranger stuff has happened.

My money says Maxanto is trying to prove how evil you are somehow. I haven't been able to make it add up, or how he's doing, it, but I'm sure he's ruminating in a corner somewhere now about it.

i'm just thinking lawsuit, charging extra for a game most of us already bought, we shouldn't have to pay for stataion pass, and if we have to buy the box set, even more law suits are going to come up, bad bad soe IF this is for real.

What makes this one sound legit to me is the fact that $OE wants to milk some extra money out of us for it.

Of course, if they are going to do that there had BETTER be development, such as adding more content and eventually converting the expansions.

You know, I'd have to agree. I still have my CDs from the original release, and the manual along with it. I think that if SOE were to tell us that we had to buy it again, many people could show that the game they purchased is far more similiar to a classic server than to the NGE.

Regardless, I'm not holding my breath on this. If it happens, it happens.

I hope this is true but I suspect that it's not. It sounds a bit fishy since the guy who is running the "emulator thing" put out a post today about needed "reversers". If LA/SOE were planning on this happening on that date, why not give him the code and be done with it (no need to reverse anything) or why pretend to be working on an emulator if the classic server thing is going to happen? I certaintly don't know.

There is that mysterous phone call from LA to those guys which they will NOT discuss and they even become super angry when people pretend they know what the call was about. They are VERY tight-lipped about it.

I really, really, really hope this is true.

SWGemu was like 2 years away from being completed because the pre cu code is very hard to work with. They would have to bring back the original devs (they got rid of the old team) to deal with it because they knew the diection of the game and would be very hard for newones to pick up.

Plus swgemu is on hold because some of them left and they have noone else who is skilled enough...

Plus why would LA/SOE get swgemu to do it when they can do it themselves if they really wanted?

It's impossible to bring back pre cu tbh, we wont see it ever again

That's the part that made me REALLY think it was B.S. since he says the EMU guys will do the work on the classic servers. That THEY will be in charge of adding content.

But it is coincidental that a few of the top bananas at the Duck left.

Since this is the week for dubious confessions, I will say that I did it. Yep, its true. Even though I don't know Shayde's e-mail address, qne I am not smart enough to dream this whole station pass thing up, I still did it.

Well, yea, that's what I meant.

My problem with this is that it makes way too much sense. If I had to conjure up a business scheme for pre-cu, this is what I'd do.

Think about it. Opening pre-cu would do two things. Bring back some players, and reduce the NGE population. Those who do not currently play provide no revenue. Those that leave NGE for pre-cu would end up paying $10 more. So it's win-win-win situation (last win is because pre-cu requires 0 investment to put up).

The other is bringing developers. This is a bit fishy for several reasons. My impression was that Xeno was major contributor and he was leaving for college. Who the others were I don't know, but the major contributors are still working on the emu. This simply doesn't happen. Once you join you're under NDA. In addition, Xeno has posted later which would violate his NDA. Even if he had something to say, he'd be smart enough to do it privately (I hope). So who are the mysterious developers? Both who still take care of stuff cannot (licensing and such) work on both projects. Others who randomly contribute are out of the picture anyway. Joker? Hardly.

BTW, which email did you receive this on. shayde@mmorpg.com? The one registered as e-mail for this account?

You hit the nail on the head... The problem is though if they release classic servers then they are admitting they have 2 different games. As far as chargin more for access... Eh, they can change prices all they want, provided any of this is true...

No, my main Yahoo one. I give that out everywhere for anything though. It could be anyone, but it is less likely a board person HERE since most of my MMORPG.COM e-mails come through the PM system.

That's why I think they're requiring Station Pass for it. It can be seen as a "bonus" and not another game. I doubt they'll force a box sale, but maybe if you buy one it's the normal rate or something?

But again, it's a BIG CRAZY IF.

OK well the ducks now have a help wanted ad on their forums. So clearly they are trying to continue their work...they just happen to be unable on account of the loss of talent.

But let's remember that Smed did say that SOE would give jobs to anyone who could reverse eng classic SWG. Hmm, maybe?!?! might it be?!?!? Probably not, but hey, its Friday!!!

See, pre-cu is a slap in the face to the supporters of NGE and all those that have tried to achieve the improvement of SWG. Armor imbalances, battlefields, GCW, etc. Those things came out quite badly due to NGE, but many have and still do live in hope that one day those will come through and they accept NGE because of it.

So despite some not believing it, there is a lot of players from CU and NGE generation, who do not want pre-cu.

Two weeks notice on the NGE. You would have thought that with there love fest nge they would have announced it and ran with a promotional period on that....

Licensing could be something they have been working on and that delayed any announcement. Conversation with LA. Could have been about running 2 seperate swg's.

I don't get why it wouldn't just be a sunsetted pre-cu swg. Free developers working on these servers is a very dangerous proposition for SOE to undertake. Giving access to these servers, databases and proprietary code on the server side is a huge risk. Unless they are payrolled employees I dont see them doing this at all. If they are payrolled employees why use people who are basically hacking your client instead of someone at least familar with pre-cu?

Of course its Smedley and SOE and that guy is clearly an idiot so he might let someone who is a self admitted hacker in his network infrastructure, give access to million dollar source code and let them loose as independent unpayed contractors.

That is the part that is insane to me about the mail. I don't doubt that soe may have hired some of those "hackers" to assist but again why? They already have staff or access to people who they could assign to the server. Just have someone who does backup, makes sure the server is online and have someone designated
to direct the admin if a rollback is needed due to some hiccup.

The nge rumor IMO was a bit different , They knew it was going to cost them a lot doing NGE . Where is the big secret to be held in a pre-cu server ? I don't see any reason for secrecy . With the flak they are taking for doing two make overs , And alienating an entire player base . WHy would they keep it a secret they plan to give into that playerbase ?

A classic server , IS a way to clear the bad press IMO . Thats not hurting the NGE crowd at all . It is actually the best thing that could happen for both crowds . I still see no reason to be quiet about it .
