This was a screenshot posted on the ac2vault forums. Probably a fake photoshoped pic but maybe they put up a classic server for people to play?

Second, there is no AC2 relaunch, Turbine is working hard to not let DDO become the flop that its destined to be. They released a game and ignore the complaints of beta testers, and they are now enjoyed the flop from having a game with no solo content... so they are rushing to create the first patch with massive solo content but its probably too little/too late. Speaking of late, 3 years after the buzz of Lord of the Rings, Turbine still has not released LOTR:Online, but they are throwing massive resources at it as well.
I believe what you are looking at are illegal free servers. Free servers exist for DAoC and WoW, so I don't see why someone wouldn't do the same for Asheron's Call 2

my video ended up on youtube =P
Figured that just disappeared into the dust.
But anyhow, it was nicely done, I enjoyed it .
AC2, I knew thee well....
Which FF Character Are You?
certainly enjoyed it
i miss AC2
I was in on the beta test of AC2 and rather enjoyed it. Then when I upgraded my video card I was on the "unable to play due to video card" club. I had the newest ATI card at the time, which was a known not to work with AC2. I did enjoy it while I played it, but never got that far into it to decide if it was worth the money or not. Early-beta testing is hard to determine if you want to play in full release as there were bugs everywhere.
I'd definately give it a try again if it ever reopened, but I don't think that'll happen.
Here is a better quality version of the video.

I have a larger sized one but I thought that the filters looked best on this smaller video.
AC2 relaunch?
Is AC2 not up and running right now? I didn't really like AC2 when I played it in beta but I didn't give it much of a chance. I just log the fast paced world of AC so I didn't figure i'd like it.
Is it much better from when it was in beta?

Asheron's Call
For the game, it's the best I've ever played, and I doubt that this will change. I didn't play the beta, I joined when the game was running for a year already, but even in that time, the game changed hugely. I don't think that it's anything like the beta was.
If only Turbine wasn't such a POS company.
I miss my Heros
Why it flopped as badly as it did is a mystery to me also. It wasn't that bad in all honesty. I think it was to different for its time. AC2 released at a time when the traditional style of hard core thinking was in full force and at its peak.
If Turbine had only had a social center for the players to at least start from(a town) at launch, ensured the chat system was working and put in a way for the crafters to sell their goods (AH or something....anything) things may have been very different.
When an MMO f*cks up a launch, its game over. The list on this site is litered with dead games that had crappy launches. You would think they have learned by now.
So the game dragged on for a while with a mediocre player base until servers were merged gradually, and the game could no longer make enough money to support itself.
*shakes fist at Turbine* free AC2!
Never played much but what I did play I remember fondly. No other game since has made me just stand around gazing at the surroundings, amazed by the sheer beauty of it...
