Rubies of Eventide: Game Closed

AdminAdmin Administrator RarePosts: 5,623

Cyber Warrior today announced that they have closed the Rubies of Eventide MMORPG.  This is the third blow to the MMORPG genre in the past 7 days, which included closure announcements for Microsoft's Mythica and Tektonic Studios Ninth Domain.

The following was posted in the official RoE forums today:

I am sorry to be the one who has to do this, but unfortunately nobody else is around to make an official announcement.

Rubies of Eventide is closing today.

The refunds that you have received will hopefully compensate everybody who has paid beyond today.

I have just finished taking down the servers, and will wait a few minutes to take the forums offline. After that, the router gets the connection pulled from it, and therefore everything falls into history.

On behalf of all of us here at Cyber Warrior, and especially Marc Howe who can not be with us at this time, I thank you for all of your support, good spirits, and most of all for being with us through the thick of it. Again, I am sorry we have to do this. We waited until the very last minute trying to find a way out of our crisis, but with the server population lower than it has ever been, there is no way around it.

I can't say for sure what is going to happen to the game. I would like to be able to say that we could start again under different circumstances, but I just don't know at this moment whether or not we'll be able to.

As for me, I will be in other MMORPGs in the coming months. Look for me possibly on Horizons and World of Warcraft. I currently play Planetside as Rahiem, and whatever other game I will either be Rahiem or Fantomas.

Thanks again, and sorry.

Jeff Grubb
Fantomas - Rahiem

We will leave Rubies of Eventide on our list for at least another month.

I’ve been waiting for things to turn this way for some time now.
Sad as it is there are just far too many MMORPG’s out there.  They are very expensive games to develop and the customer base is too thinly spread.  Also many of us are veterans of this genre so our expectations are much higher.  At the moment I see a lot of clones on not much real innovation.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Market forces will inevitably kill off the weaker games.  On the plus side this does now mean that the remaining games will have a slightly larger player base allowing more cash to be spent on quality (we can only hope image ).  Not much consolation if it’s the game your playing/following that falls mind.

I think it would be cool to see the Developers fired instead of the games being terminated.

Everybody....let's hold hands and chant together:

Fire Raph Koster, fire Raph Koster, fire Raph Koster, fire Raph Koster.....

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Anybody who have brain expect this.

I betatest RoE from first stages of beta and NOBODY from dev hear what betatesters said.
About bad optimalizations, engines, games mechanics, settings, balancing. Only insults, nothing more.

There is too much games what is runned for free.. not only emulators like UO (with 400+ players /1 server at peak times) but what about RUnescape ? Runescape have between 10-20 servers, thousand members who play for free and only hundred members who pay 5$/month.
I think if RoE use better management , set client for 10$ and monthly fee to 5$ , many players come to play RoE.
RoE is good game , because is unique and something ingame..mechanism.. races..items is good, but graphics/optimalisation isn't enought.. for 13$/moth .. for 13$/month you can play DAOC or AO and that's AAA+ titles... RoE can't compete this titles.. but can compete lower titles like Runescape, Mu online, Ragnarok, and even UO.

Lower fees = more players = game don't need to close.
but I think this need new managment and staff... maybe Fantomas can sell RoE licence to anybody else who want to try make new server...
