Ok i admit these are the big 3 classic bands that most everyone knows. But to say they are DIRECTLY responsible? For bad rock bands?

You really need to explain this.

I can name some bad rock bands that are more responsible for this than these 3.

1.Motley Crue-I hate em Over rated and popular for the wrong reasons.

2.Poison-I mean really they wore makeup way more than the above mentioned.

3.Lover Boy-Now these are not only BAD rock bands but complete sellouts.

The 3 you mentioned came out of a time in Britain when there wasnt an ability to download music and it was NOT normal to play in a stadium or arena. As a matter of fact they played more traditional small clubs and taverns.

Hell when Led Zeppelin 1st came to the US in 1969 they played the Legendary Whisky a go go On the sunset strip and more often than not opened for a lot of legendary rock bands such as Frank Zappa and The Mothers.

Download Pink Floyd's lesser known records such as "Animals" and you wont be sorry.

The whole problem here is being able to put those bands in the time they were as popular as Brittany Spears. There was NO E! or Entertainment tonight to report on the daily goings on of Dave Gilmour,Mick Jagger or John Lennon.

Everything they did to be popular was based on actual talent.

Think about it,when you hear of Miss Spears its not based on talent its based on what she wore or how she almost dropped the baby.

Look at "K-Fed" the guy has NO talent but he has HER money.

BTW im a old ass punk rocker and im actually DEFENDING the 3 bands you named so PLEASE explain.

All three of the bands you listed were influenced by the Beatles. How many time have you seen this from a shitty band..."Man, if it wasn't for the beatles we wouldn't be here now." How many times have you seen "Man, if it wasn't for the beatles we wouldn't be here now." So many shitty bands give all their credit to Beatles and the Stones and even Elvis.
There is no doubt the bands you listed were shitty though.

Pink Floyd...I just could never do it. It's not really so much I think they are bad musicians as I just can't stand the suicidal, same slow ass song over and over. Yes I used to have animals. I got it back around 1997 or so. It was ok, but I still can stand them. The funny part is I still respect what they've acomplished and written. I just can't listen to it. It was actually hard for me to chose between Floyd or The Doors. I hate them both equally. But all floyd have ever really been to me is a suicide soundtrack and I don't play like that.

I liked some old punk. I loved the Misfits. The Ramones and Sex Pistols were pretty cool. Kennedys, Black Flag and Squirrel Bait were some others I listened to a little. But I was the punker enemy, I was the long haired headbanger.

pink floyd was not influenced by the beatles as much as you may think, syd barret (the founder of pink floyd) and paul mcaryney and john lennon used to trip together and write music together thers some mp3's floatin around out there of them jamming, pink floyd was its own unique sound albei both band trhe beatles and pink floyd were influenced by old blues and rock n roll each was there own band and not influenced by eachother, its hard to be influenced when you come about at the exact same time, being influeced by a band within yer music is usually a reflection of what you heard early in life, so with that said and the beatles and pink floyd being around at the same they had no influence on eachother but made really gr8 music together as well as in there own bands. check out floyds saucerful of secrets album and you will notice no similiarity to the beatles stuff at that same time period except the brit accent.

All Hip-hop singers, rap singers, country singers, What i don't like is people that sing without a band, and they just have a dumb computerized beat playing in the background over and over...bugs the crap outa me. So many of these people need to be smacked in the face with a revolving door. (Sorry I don't really have anyone band/singer in particular to say because i hate the majority of them).

I also find it funny how so many people in this thread become sooo defensive over their lil bands that they love and other people don't. But don't stop it amuses me!

COLDPLAY! How has noone said this lot yet?!
    G-Unit.
    GnR.
    Cradle of Filth.
    Slayer.
    Black Eyed Peas.
Most 'indie' bands. ESPECIALLY those that aren't on indie labels, coz it's just complete sacriledge.
My Chemical Romance, and ALL worthless emo bands of the like (no, I don't mean all emo. A LOT of emo is good... Just MCR, HIM, Fall Out Boy etc. are fags...)
    Travis.
    Most hiphop/rap artists...
Any 'RnB' artists that actually don't play Rhythm and Blues.
ALL ARTISTS THAT HAVE EEEEEEEEEEVER COVERED A GOOD ROCK SONG IN A HIP-HOP/DANCE/RNB/TRANCE ETC. STYLE!
    All feministic artists. *flamebait*

Ummmm there's like 2000000000 more, but I can't think of them right now... I'll add to it after band practice (when i'll be asked to play 100000000 artists' songs of those 2000000000 artists).

    You're an idiot.
I'll pick you apart real quick:
Coldplay is some of the only vocally unique music on the radio, and they at least have a few songs that are fairly deep. Good choice for a band to eliminate.

Vocally unique? How?? I dunno the indie music scene in the States (I'm assuming thats where you are), but here in the UK, every 2 weeks we have a new shit indie band playing the same vocally boring and depressing whiney songs about nothing worthwhile.

G-Unit is just as mediocre as every other hip hop artist. I guess that would fall in line with your "most hip hop/rap artists."

Indeed - it's just their 'Gangsta Rap' thing that REALLY irritates me... As everyone else has been saying... It's just pathetic...

GnR, Cradle of Filth, and Slayer you can have. Not my cup of tea anyway.

    Woo!

Black Eyed Peas pre-fergie weren't bad, as I stated earlier. Just kill her.

I must admit, I've not actually heard them pre-fergie - I'll ask my drum teacher (he's obsessed)...

Now is when you really piss me off. Eliminate most "indie" bands? That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard. You want to eliminate the one area in music that still has originality. Gj.

How are indie bands original? I think we're missing what genre I'm saying needs to be eliminated. I assume you're still with the thinking that indie=independant (ie a band not trying to target huge audience like Pop groups, and generally on an independant record label)? Coz that's not what I meant in the slightest. I meant all of the Coldplay copies - half the bands that play in Glastonbury really - Keane, Franz Ferdinand etc.

I would like to know however, why you consider there's no originality in other genres? I've never heard fusion that WASNT original. Dave Matthews Band is pretty mainstream in the states I believe, but their music is utterly inspirational and original. Jazz CONSTANTLY turns out brilliant musicians and brilliant music. Funk is the same. Bands like Dreamtheatre and Devil Doll come in and just define the meaning of 'originality' if you really want some TRUELY original stuff. Anything can be original - people just have to make it so.

You can have the RnB point, too.

    Woo!

Indigo Girls, Ani DiFranco, and the like make good music. Why you'd want to eliminate them baffles me.

Forgive me - I've never heard of either of those - what was the point you were trying to make here? (If it was about the 'feministic' thing, that was a joke... As highlighted by 'flamebait'... I have a lot of respect for anyone that can get up on stage infront of an audience of 50% men, and sing about how worthless they are. lol.

So, self-proclaimed God of music, what do you listen to that isnt': Top 40's, Indie, Rap, Hip Hop, RnB, Trance, Feministic, or emo?
That leaves classical, which I admit is good shit, but is there anything else? Are you a big Alan Jackson fan or something? Or are you just a complete troll who has no idea what he's talking about?

I didn't proclaim that. Neither am I a troll who has no idea what he's talking about. I've been raised with music from before birth, and do my best to get a taste for all genres to an extent. I do listen to classical, yes, though the kind of post-modern stuff can get REALLY irritating (especially playing with an orchestra/concert band... The time signature stuff just irritates the hell out of me). I listen to a lot of Jazz, as well as solo instrumental stuff - which I would class as exactly that in most cases, though some things can still fit into 'jazz', 'classical', 'metal' etc. Loads of funk/fusion stuff. All kinds of Metal. Emo (I said all worthless emo bands, like MCR... That doesn't eliminate the good ones that actually play music, quite well in some occassions, and put some real feeling into their songs... I, in fact, play for a Screamo/Hardcore band so I'm anything but a 'hater.' Lots of alternative rock (Matchbox 20, Counting Crows, Third Eye Blind, Bare Naked Ladies, Tenacious D etc). Hard Rock. Lots of Punk/Ska. Blues. Some Drum Core stuff (look up Blue Devils). Folk/Folk Rock. Gothic Rock/Metal. Anything with awesome musicianship in it.

That doesn't actually mean they are a -good- band though, does it? As someone else said - they did try I believe, but didnt get too far with it...

My hate seeds from two facts really. One, is that I really have to question how long someone attacking their guitar and drumkit actually remains 'good music'. I just find all of their music so samey and over-aggressive... The other, is when all of the metal-heads in my year began to listen more into their genre, they made this discovery. 'Reign In Blood' (or however you spell it... The song I mean). If I ever hear "THUD THUD THUD de-ne-ne-neeeeer-ne-ne-neeeer-ne-ne-neeeer, THUD THUD THUD, de-ne-ne-neeer-ne-ne-neeer-ne-ne-neeeer, THUD THUD THUD, de-ne-ne-neeeeer-ne-ne-neeeer-ne-ne-neeeer... THUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUD" again, I think i'll puke. The metal heads' 'drummer' as they liked to call him, single-handedly broke:

    One Remo bass drum skin.

    Three Remo upper tom skins.

    Two Remo lower tom skins.

    One Remo snare skin.

    One Tama bass pedal.

    One Zildjian Avedis Custom Crash.

And four pairs of Pro-Mark 5Bs (not such a loss).

All playing that one song. HATE HATE HATE HATE!!! NEVER AGAIN!

people get sooo defensive over these lil bands and shyt because our society is in a state of decadence, putting entertainment numberone on there list instead of good work ethics and schooling, im afraid it is a downward spiral from here as history has shown repeatedly no matter how gr8 any civilization is/was as soon as there social focus and desires moved towards self consumption and entertainment it fell soon after, think we have a cple hundred years b4 the fall of rome happens all over again.

Well your last sentence pretty much cleared things up for me.

Ive always felt punk was a bit more socially concious than metal was.Want to read a REALLY good book by John Lydon?

    Here is a link:Great book

You see a lot of bands that came out of britian during its punk era were heavily influenced by ...Reggae.Thats right just go out and pick up Black Market Clash. On this record in its original state of vinyl 1 side was all reggae the other side was punk rock.

Anyway as it is most metal (to me anyway)has very little social signifigance. That isnt to say that the genre doesnt produce some good music.Early metallic just cant be beat imho or even some megadeath. Most of what is produced and called metal these days is just pathetic.Same goes for any commercial grade punk.

Look if its in the top 40 or played on the radio chances are that "punk band" or "metal group" has sold out from the getgo and didnt really put the years of touring in as a band.

I can see what you mean by the beatles though.Chances are they all influenced each other just by being in the same touring circuit and hanging together.I wouldnt put ALL the blam on them.

    Want to ENJOY an mmo?

I'll just comment on the indie thing since the rest of your points are a perfectly valid opinion. I consider, along with most, that indie music is that which is signed under no label or a small, little-known label. Popularity, or a lack thereof, isn't a necessary factor. Take Iron and Wine, they are indie and everyone and their brother knows who they are. I'm sorry to hear the indie scene in the UK is so mediocre. Canada has the best, but it's still good in the states.
Check out Kranky, Jagjaguwar, Constellation, etc. Bands from these labels have some music that is truly unique and innovative.

Ah ok then! Can understand the misunderstanding there then. Yeah, the Indie scene here is actually probably the most popular in teenage/young adult rock at the moment... Hardly 'indie' now that even Universal are taking signings of some of the bands... A lot of 'indie' bands (named thus coz of their independant label) from the states and such, I actually consider alternative rock, because calling them 'indie' here gives them a lot of negative connotations in my mind, and makes people expect to be hearing Coldplay as soon as you turn it on.

The 'lead emo' so-to-speak in my area (the one that does something, and then every other emo HAS to do it) is actually probably the happiest guy I know. Brilliant entertainment, really sociable... I'd pick him over some emotionless retard any day. To contrast, some people who are like 'the anti-emo' I know are in fact deeply depressed in a lot of cases... So quit your whining... If they wanna have side-fringes, get over it.

Just remember, if you're having kids in 10 years time, they're gonna grow up to be emo, so suck it up.
