Thinking about finally playing as a cleric for groupability. Possible I might roll with the Pscionicist as its closest to my EQ chanter roots. Dark horse possibilites are necro or sorcerer.
At least I have months and months left to decide, guess that's one good thing about still having to wait so long to play this game.
I will start as a Healer for easy groupage. It seems to always work hehe. I have loved every class I have played so I am really indifferent to which one is first.
I wish there was more information on the classes. From the little information that has been released I'm leaning toward Psionist for the adventure sphere, they are sounding pretty interesting at this point. For the crafting I'm leaning toward woodcrafter or herbalist. Finally for the dipolmacy sphere I'm not to sure; the class discriptions I've seen so far don't seem to appealing.
I am thinking a Druid as the class interests me a lot. After that my choices would be a Cleric (as I never play one and it might be a nice change) or a Paladin. I play a lot of Mages and it is time for something different!
I might drop the necromancer as the first class to be the class that can have a phoenix... I'm still not sure what class that is. But come on... Its a phoenix.

I think a Druid will be a very fun class to play. You are in tune with nature and can change the direction of the wind itself! Can anyone say Druid Pirate? I'll sail the sea and control the winds to my favour. How could that not be fun?
Not to mention that the Druid sounds like a great class overall! Sailing was one of the reasons for me chossing Druid first as well. Find the right guild and life will be great fun!
Originally posted by baphamet a little off topic here, but i noticed something about this thread. most people posting in this thread have very few posts and yet most of them have been registered a while now. what this tells me is that alot of you guys are the non vocal vanguard fans, and for all the haters that come to this forum claiming how bad the vanguard community is and how bad vanguards game community will be after release.....take a good look at this thread. the majority of fans of any game are indeed the silent, non vocal type and seems to me like this thread reflects the vanguard community more than some thread linked to the ovf where trolls run wild. and when the game is actually released everyone will see the true game community. not what a few trolls on the forums lead the haters to believe. again sorry about the derail, and to all you non verbal fans that read the forums and don't care to post much (witch i totally understand, i don't even know why i bother posting sometimes ) see you guys in vanguard, this game is going to kick ass!
You have an interesting point, and I agree with you. I think I am one of those non-vocal fans that will be apart of the game at release. I'm very excited about the game no matter what the haters have to say about it.
But on subject... I think that the blood mage looks pretty cool. Two of my favorite classes were necromancer and inquisitor from EQ1 and the inquisitor from EQ2 and the bloodmage almost seems like it would be a cross. Healers can be boring sometimes but with the blood mage it looks like you can do life taps for damage even if you don't need the HPs. This class seems like it will be a class that will need, not full attention, but more than just a plain ol' healer!
I'm not sure what race I'd like to be though... leaning on dark elf since it's the race I've played the most in MMOs.
There are certain classes in every MMORPG that tend to attract me.
Archers, Monks, Druids.
However, only one time I played an off-class -- a Cleric back in DAoC (Friars also good) -- and it turned out to be a class I fell in love with.
So, keeping that in mind and the fact that Vanguard promises to be a group-oriented game -- and I do very much like to get invited to groups and feel I am performing a vital function -- I may again create a main character which is a healer (Cleric, Disciple, Blood Mage or Shaman).
Usually it is advised to pick the class your "heart" tells you, but oftentimes I think it might be better to pick that class that your "head" tells you ... and you may grow to love it the best.

Wait... Is there monks in this game? I think I'm going to actually consider buying the game if monk is an actually good non-healing class. For me it normally goes Monk->caster->healer->summoning-fighter (totally different then monk) . If I can't be one I'll be another.

Yes, there will be Monks. They are in the "Offensive Tanks" category. Also, the screenshots released yesterday show the Asian-style continent of Kojan (the Kojanese Archipelago, to be precise), and I am VERY impressed with the oriental look.
Showed some guys inside what appears to be a Buddhist style temple or something -- complete with sandboxes holding the sticks of incense (if you have ever been to Japan you know what I mean).
But, you actually have TWO choices of Martial Arts guys: the Monk himself, of course, but also the Disciple, who is martial-artist style, butt-kicking, primary HEALER.
Since I like Monks, but I think I might want to be a healer (for practical reasons), this Disciple character really is starting to look go to me. Real good. (He also has some kind of mez-touch thingy -- looks good for self-protection.)
That would give me a High Elf Cleric (healer) for Thestra (starting continent, medieval European style) and a Disciple (probably Wood Elf) for Kojan (Asian style).
Thinking I will not make a character on the starting continent of Qalia, but instead leave that for exploration by the Thestra and Kojan characters.
(Lotta people LOVE Qalia though -- Arabian Nights/Persian/Middle Eastern style.)
Look HERE for Monk info on Vanguard Wiki. You may like what you see.
(Note the opening quote from the Dev "Talisker.")
(Oh, btw, if you like casters, don't overlook the Druid. He is NOT an EverQuest-style nuker-buffer-healer hybrid. Druids are a primary nuking class, like the Sorcerer, in Vanguard although the Druid as well as the Ranger will have some rather minor heals, but not to be counted as a Healer though, according to the Wiki.)
Ya know I am seeing something very important missing here...BARD! I am SOOOO doing a bard. Come on, who doesn't like the idea of constructing your own songs, and just going crazy? I miss the days of the EQ1 Bard. I can't wait to roll out a bard.
I think as in every game I will try all types of combos until I find the one I enjoy the most. I just hope starting off that some classes are not so far more versitile than the other. I hope they all come out evenly and ready to whoop some a$$

Current MMO of interest: Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
MMO background: EQ, UO, AO, SWG, PS, EQ2, L2,EQoA, WoW, WWIIO, and AC2
Soo many choices...
I'll most likely by a Goblin Shaman. Phoenix companion ftw.
Your friendly neighborhood bootstrut!
Vulmane Shammy
Lesser Giant Pally
Raki Ranger (if it is an option, currently raki can not be rangers but that is subject to change. If it stays that way then Raki Bard)
not sure on the race, have to make one on same continent as friends tho
