Why all the hate for Vanguard? Vanguard is great and getting better every day. The turn based combat is gone. Combat is now similar to other MMORPG's. The graphics are very nice. The Sky/Clouds are the best I've every seen in any game. The frame rates are kind of slow on the high settings, but they are getting better.
Guess what YOU CAN SOLO if you so desire!! SOloing is harder than WOW but easier than EQ. The animations are poor and the Dev's have said they will be redone for release. Only 2 of the 3 continents are available right now.

well....what can I say...It look pretty horrible and pretty wounderfull at the same time. The loadlag reminds me of Anarchy online but I guess the game is far from optimized in that department yet. I liked the speed of the character. The game runs in a good fast pace and the animations (running) is done in a decent manner without beeing outstanding. The movement seems crisp and responsive with is very important to me.
the casting animations were ultra boring and I would have loved to see some real melee-fight animations (yes I did read that they will be redone)..All in all I dont see how the video dispels the "turn based combat" myth, or perhabs I dont know what turn based combat is?
the player distance must be set pretty low because other players kept appearing out of nowere.
That skelli pet did NOT rock my boat...It looked and moved like a big ol dork
It might be me but I would love to see some more exiting locations than a rockey desert
The sky is blue with a few clouds in it....
I want to see more please!
creation video (altho, who ever made it was a jack off) was "ok", second vid is a letdown.
I have issues with the animations, have issues with the same old shit casting system... idk. 3 years ago? sure, now? IDK.

They devs specifically said they are not satisfied with the animations either and will be polishing and reworking them durring part of beta 3 and much more heavily durring beta 4. Beta 3 their focus is more on the optomising the graphics engine code itself.
So we probably won't see many of the animations get ironed out until some time in beta 4. We also probably won't see good shadow programming until beta 5 as it's one of the last things they plan to implement.
If beta 4 rolls around and the animations are still pretty bad though I would probably become very skeptical. So far they've been sticking to their schedule pretty well though.
One thing I do not like is the doughy/plastic skin (bugged the hell out of me with EQ2 as well, I'm sure there is a reason for it, and I'm sure I don't know what it is). There have been no dev comments in that reguard so it may be something I'll just have to live with (assuming that all else goes as planned and the game is released more or less how the devs expect it to be and the final result is fun and functional for me and my wife personally).
Are those videos yours on Google?
I like it, looks better than EQ2. The glitches and bugs is what beta is for, in my personally opinion, Vanguard is going to take the MMO gamers by storm.
They need to Add some More media on their official site so we can drool more
I click the target... i hit hotkeys... i auto attack... it dies.

Hrm...doesn't sound like VG. According to official info, while you "could" try to win easier fights using auto attack you will almost never do so when actually playing most encounters.
Usually (from a melee stand point) you will be getting in an optimal position, choosing a stance/aura/etc., figuring out if you should buff/debuff or attack right away, deciding on what combo route you should persue while attacking, coordinating with other group members if you aren't soloing, and then deciding when to use alternate abilities (rescues, interrupts, special attacks etc.) or continue the current combo chain you're working on.
Basically "the theory" is that you are constantly balancing your options to try to be the most efficient you can with your given class and build in the given situation.
The "book of oloh" has a lot of good descriptions in it about what playing a warrior is like in VG (granted it was written in early beta 2 so some things have changed but it still gives a good feel). Including how and why weapon speed becomes an important factor with strong and weak points to both slower and faster weapons etc. It's a good read.
Vanguard never used turn-based combat. You apparently don't understand what "turn-based" means.
Combat has been speeded up in the beta, based on testers' feedback. Yes, the combat is RPG-style combat -- not FPS-style combat which some players prefer.
The graphics are nice, but this cannot be discerned by watching this low-res video. Yes, the sky is well done.
Yes, you can solo -- this was never in doubt. The Devs said you would be able to solo to max level, if you wanted, but you would not experience the "full" game nor acquire all the "goodies" you might want.
Frame-rates will undoubtedly be slow since they are still optimizing. Game will probably not be "smooth" (as smooth as it is going to get) until Beta 4.
The new animations will be added during Beta 3. The Devs announced this. Remaining continent content will be added during Beta 3.
Character Creation Video: Thanks for showing us that there is a "boob" slider.
(Lack of) Gameplay Video: Running speed looks brisk; that's good. A Necro who doesn't have his pet out until it's no longer needed -- not wise. Occasional graphical glitches; par for the course at this stage.
Note: TRY to learn to play the game with the KEYBOARD. It's smoother and faster. The bizarre zoom-in/zoom-out, turning in "stages" (moving mouse across the mousepad -- btw, set your mouse sensitivity HIGHER), constantly shifting PoV elevation, trying to click all buttons with the mouse-pointer indicates the players is, frankly, a NOOB and/or has little ability to use the keyboard, a.k.a., "Can't-Type-For-Crap Syndrome."
But, thanks for the effort.

I use to read book of oloh... SV info is rather bogus to be honest. If someone could show me a video where it is not exactly as i said it is, then ill be happy but every video i see.

Most people here are really blind. They just drink there cool aid that SV writes and believes it, i use to be one of them... until the vids came out. Bottom line, if SGO dont want people to call there vids for the crap that it is, then dont release them.
at Beta 3, your combat engine should be ready for show, you should be able to make a vid that backs up your claim. Bottom line, i dont need to play the game to see it for what it is, i dont need to fork over the 60 bucks to prove to myself that the combat engine is more of the same, your telling me in your vids (or the leaked vids lol). It just bothers me when a dev claims one thing and does another.

Wouldn't you thing the combat engine might be still undergoing some changes? It is a long time till beta 5 or the open beta and if eq2 can be a standard they revamped their combat system like 2 weeks before release.
From what I've read vanguard combat has been going through major changes. It was way slower and as oloh posts did have a lot of advanced characteristics. Now it is much faster based on new info and has been redune in a major way. Wouldn't it make sense for some of these advanced features to follow up with a major change in the combat system? Ie maybe these things are just temporarily not in but coming as beta progresses?
Just seems like common sense to look at the FAQ and some of information posted about the state of the game in various places...

Hrmm... lets see combat system has an opener/bridge/closer. Pending on which skill/spell you use will determine the damage/buff/debuffer on each stage of the combat will result in. So i am not sure how much more uniqueiness u want? Or am i missing something?

I doubt they are going to bother releasing a loaded combat vid until they have the animations down and smooth (in theory sometime in beta 4).
Otherwise it will like go as follows:
SIGIL "Here is out indepth combat vid. It shows several of the different classes in various situations. We'll comment periodically so that you understand what they are doing, and why they are doing it to give you a general feel of how combat works in VG"
Followed by the accurate user comment of "You're anims look like crap."
Which I doubt will be the intended effect the devs were hoping for.
Everything I've seen about this game so far seems like crap. And they say it's been in development for over 4 years? ROFL
Microsoft dropped it and Sony picked it up. That's got to tell you something. And now after looking it over in detail I see that it's really just old EQ's problems and tedium repackaged in current graphics. What a ripoff.
Excited? Nah, I'll pass.

Correct, he has 4 posts all saying the exact same thing. More interestingly he's also clueless about the M$ deal anyway. There's a big difference between being "dropped" and MS pushing Sigil to release early thus Sigil buying their rights back and grabbing a different publisher while retaining all their dev rights AND 50% publishing rights.
Can we say troll?

Vanguard has a WoWish combat (except not as fast and fluid) but it also has some unique features like intercept, guard and a few other special combat-events (ive not personally witnessed it, but more like saw a screenshot of them and a brief explanation of how they work) . Those events work llike this:
Lets say you are fighting a mob, and suddenly the mob does a special attack on you, but your perception skill let u "see" that special move and you have an option to block it or parry it or riposte (depends on how advanced your skills are), then the mob tries to cast a spell on u, same thing - u can try to block it, disrupt it, somehow change the flow of combat in your favor. There are bridge combos as previous poster above u mentioned, special attacks that call in other special attacks similar to EQ2 heroic stances. So the combat is not simple (technically). The only problem I have with combat right now (judging from the movies and first hand explanations) is graphical - the animations are not in "sync" with each other, combat does not look visually realistic, but thats OK for a beta.
So IMO, VSOH has some pretty unique ideas about pretty much everything. I can only hope that those ideas are implemented at the release. Of course, since this is beta (early beta to that), anything and everything might change.
