An interesting article

about the history of Warhammer and Warhammer Online.  This was posted on our guild forums, and I thought I would share it here.  I think the article is well written and pretty fair.  Not sure if it's been posted here before or not, but incase it hasn't, have a read :)

Well anyone with half a brain and an ounce of experience in RPG history can tell a Warhammer clone.  Green orcs, ridicularge weapons (partially art/partially consequence of minatures), and the gothic sensibilities.

One thing about Warcraft that always bugged me was they took out most of the gothic and downright dreeriness of Warhammer.  That is half of the atmosphere.   Its like they copied it but took out hallf of the soul of the setting.  They have the dark humor and look but left out the rest.

Especially by WC3 it seems so PC and fluff.  The WC demons are nothing compared to Chaos.  No real substance, they don't seem threatening of evil or much of anything.  And peaceful, reasonable orcs?  Gah.  Its one of the things that always appeled to me about the setting over D&D.  It was so dark and gothic.

Agree with you totally. I certainly am happy to see that at least so far, Mythic are doing a pretty good job of representing the actual miniatures themselves.
