What do you Think of Eve's Skill System

Eve Online

Skill System Poll

What do you the average masses think of the real time skill system supported in Eve Online.

For those that wish to participate in the poll but have not played Eve let me explain,

Eve Online supports a skill system that allows you to train in skills while online or off, and with good reason seeing as how some of the skills can take up to 30 real time days to complete training.

Point being is this a part of the game that turns people away.

The Poll

A. I like the system                      5

B. I don't like the system              3

C. I don't care                             1

I will try to update this poll daily please start your post A., B., or C. and if you can use corresponding color to make the tracking easier.

Thanks and lets see what everyone truly feels and try to stay on topic

I think it's a money sink. I used to like that you could go up skills while not playing the game.

But then I realised that no matter how much I played the game, I could not progress any further without paying another monthly fee. Pretty soon the progression snailpaces so that it's about £10 a skill point or more.

I didn't want to place this in the actual Eve Forum since my interest is not soley based on Eve.

I am more concerned with what people think of the concept of there characters being affected while not online. This is something that is new to the mmo genre to the best of my knowledge.

If a title was released with similair characteristics, how would the mmo gaming community respond?

Please remeber this is a poll on the existing system that Eve Online offers and cast your votes accordingly

I don't know about the skill system but EVE is the only game that actually made me want to do my homework when I started college.

Its different. It works fairly well, though the longer you play the longer the skill time gets. I think this poll will probably level out at 50/50, because its a love it or hate it system.

i love it. it allows you to concentrate on more important issues without ever needing to 'grind'. it also means that generally, older players are better... which is the way it SHOULD be in MMO's. not like most MMO's where any ch00b the same level as you has all the same abilities.

I love it. My only issue is two-fold. It forces you to schedule to be competitive. You need to be online at such-and-such a time so as to start the next skill going... If you could queue them, this would make things more player-friendly I think. The other issue is that it puts new players at a SIGNIFICANT disadvantage to older players, and there is really no way for new players to close that gap. Thus why I'm currently arguing with the CSR team to get them to recreate my account that they wrongly deleted before I go back to the game.

Do the short skills, level 1,2, 3 when you are actually playing.

Do the level 4 skills while you sleep.

Do the level 5 skills when don't play for a few days.

In a couple months almost any skill you need will be level 4, and you might have 1 or 2 level 5's.

Being competative takes about 2-3 months skillpoint wise, and a lifetime to be competative as a person. Some people start the game and 2 months later they are in 0.0 making billions. Others been playing 3 years and they still sitting in empire.

Me personally, I started PVPing from day 3 and never looked back.

I just started tackling, and tackling, and tackling, eventually I could use better and better equipment.

I am 1.5 years now, I only use frigates and cruisers with t1 mods. Have 300+ killmails, and I usually lose 1 cruiser per week.

People obsess over skills like its SOOOOOO impooooortant.

As far as skills I don't even think about it. If I see the skill thing
flashing, I set a new one, I prolly wasted weeks of training because I
won't change my schedule to change a skill.

If you dont like it dont play.

Thank you Baff for speaking that simple truth! That's all it is, a money making scheme...and CCP is laughing all the way to the bank!

And? CCP is a business, they are out to make money to keep their product up and running. They removed the senseless grind that most other MMOs use to keep you playing (you know, you have kill x number of rat/big rats/great rats to get you another level). Instead you set a skill going and then do whatever you want(and before the usual whiners turn up, mining is a grind but you don't HAVE to do it. In level grinders you MUST keep grinding your xp or you fall behind).

Every second you stand around in a level grinder is lost xp, in Eve you can spend hours just hanging around a system for no better reason than you like the scenery AND advance your skills at the same time.

I want to say that you make a good point, that is the reason that I set this poll up. I do believe that gaming has taken a turn for the worse switching the focus from the actual gaming experience to how fast and hard can you grind before your eyes burn out of their sockets.

I think Eve is a pioneer in a new game mind set, it has helped me in opening my mind to a whole new realm of possibilities for back boning a game experience with out following the cookie cutter recipe of a level system. I think Eve is a good start but I do recognize the down falls of the system seeing as how I am not a player of Eve anymore. The time sync is a large down fall but I do want to give them credit for doing something outside the box.

I would like to see somemore opinions and please keep the poll up the more people that vote the more accurate the numbers.
